Konichiwa, Bromonto-des.

This is the dev thread for Grim Grotto, a solo RPG project that involves fabulous posing and monster girl titties. I am Bromont, husband to a murdered waifu, father to a murdered daughteru, I will have my vengeance in this life or the next, lol.

So Bizarre Slime: Grim Grotto is about a country called Grim Grotto, which is a swamp/southern area where yokai and fiends/fae seem to inhabit, though there's sort of a eastern monsters vs western monsters mentality. It's an abstract kind of setting, with blood red neon swamp water and moebius style landscapes, the adventure comes from exploring the grotto's themselves and unearthing hidden waifus, spells, and fabulous new color palettes with stat/elemental differences. It's also a pariah zone where criminals are banished to, and where scary monsters rule the night. FERAL's are what they're called, monsters too broken to be civilized.

Aaahnoo--- So about the game: You're a ronin wizard, blank slatish but with a certain personality. You're a syphon wizard, which means you have infinite MP but require charge time in order to do anything. A glass cannon too, so you'll have to learn how to properly defend yourself using sort of like a Super Mario RPG style timed hits system. You'll be able to learn new spells from witches/sorceresses that hide themselves throughout the land, like Liches and Witches and Shaman, those types. While I'm trying my best to give you lots to do, and routes to go down with various monster girls as well as story choice; I'm also trying to tune a linear story experience. Main story route, to be specific, that delves into the nature of the monster girls' creation in a philosophical sense. It'll be comedic, bizarre, and sometimes scary in tone. It goes without saying that it'll also be perverse and campy, rofl.

Custom/Tweaked tilesets, Mapping (Parallax Mapping as well), sprite work, artwork, writing, possibly music, as well as simple coding, these are all things I'm doing by myself. Which means it'll take awhile, but good news, I've already been working on it for quite some time!

Anyway, enough of the boring talk, let's discuss the girls.

Has the scar a story? What or who caused the scar and does the scar actually look like it was caused by what is claimed has caused it?

Was the scar detrimental to her social position or did she acquire the scar to reach a higher social position?

Besides those questions, I really like her face. She has the" tired to death but still happy mother" look.

Her kimono looks too plain, neither lady of the house or hard working housewife. This sadly makes her look like a bad Inuyasha OC.

Overall I think you need to become better with shadows. You draw things in the right proportions, but the lack of shadows makes it look low quality.

You should probably look at a lot more fluffy tails so you can figure out how to get the texturing right, or it's simply going to come out rough-looking instead of soft like /monster/'s attempt at making an OC tatzelwurm the mascot of TFT. I'd help give references, but I'm sorry to say I barely have any kitsunes saved and am more of a fan of danukis and ratatoskrs anyway tail-wise.

They're quick sketches with a flat color layer, not meant to be much more until I get a better feel for the character. Shading comes in later. I'm aware it looks low quality, I'm used to drawing monochrome, only recently did I bother using the fill tool to figure out the color palettes. I'm also new at drawing, lol.

I'll get better as I go along, though if you have some shading tutorials, send them my way. Lost all my reference material.

It definitely needs texture. Probably a floral pattern or something similar. I have to look into Kimono patterns, because I'm shooting in the dark.

It actually does in that the yokai village sees her as a menacing and cruel figure, while they see her daughter as a pure and altruistic maiden. I mean, she is menacing and cruel, but in a nice maternal way, lol.

A "tatzelwurm", a cat snake cryptid sighted throughout the alps for a few centuries. The idea was to strongly parody fluffiness to the point of both her tail and hair being kitsune-like, but she lost some of her cuteness at the end as admitted by the artist. OPpenheimer also drew one quite a while before that artist. Coincidentally enough in accordance with your reaction, the original eyewitness of the beast died of a heart attack soon after, but managed to tell enough about it to his family before dying that they managed to get a painting of it made in memory of him.

If it's a fox snake, then it's no longer a tatzelwurm, which is a cat snake, thus defeating the entire purpose of appropriating a mythical creature to serve as a mascot and instead making an original monster, donut steal using the name recognition of the real monster like some kind of cheap unholy copyright sham.

So you said that This is going to be like a Mario RPG game, but there are many of them so can you be more specific? Is it going to be like Paper Mario series, where you limited to one monster/partner at a time in battle and they have their own set of abilities and switch partners depending on the enemy or obstacle (the Lich may have analyze/scan ability like the goombas did, Oni would have a rock smash move to brake/move obstacles like the bomb-ombs, the green girl you have in your pic may give you breath underwater/travel in water ability and specialize in water based magic like the cheap-cheap) or is it going to be like the Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for the SNES, where you have a small party that you must plan to form depending on your playstyle or situation (having a Lich/Witch team for special magic attacks and healing, Oni/Orc team for full focusing on full close quarter attack, Dullahan/Living Armor team for total defense, Centaur/Harpy for hit and run tactics/long range attacks, Lamia/Danuki/Fox for stat affects, potions/items and illusions)? There is also the Mario and Luigi RPG if you plan doing on a monogamy route, though I think that is too limiting considering the game play involving too many monster girls (and other reasons as well).

Just to be clear, if you really want to do monogamy ONLY in your game please do so, but allow let me explain why that may not the best idea for you to do so. The monster girls is one of the most significant factor of the game, determining the gameplay and the narrative of the game; however, the other main components of the game is the party and partner mechanics that makes it a RPG styled game, and the sex/lewdness mechanics that is integrated with the previous game mechanics. It appears to me that adding monogamy is not feasible without distorting the gameplay, story and flow of the game for the following reasons:

1) If you only had to focus on one girl as your main partner/lover, then your main character has to get to her which is more complicated than it sounds. Would the hero have some type of connection towards the heroines before the game via destiny, previous associations, answered letter, etc, or would you have to go and find her to soon join together via story progression, quest achievement, or status requirements? If the former, your MC would have to know them beforehand or at least have some information about them, which would likely not be the case for the magic users or the isolated types. Likewise how would the heroines would know him or his circumstances first? Does your MC have something special about him that would separate him from others? It seems that magic is not all that special in your world? Why would the heroines even interact with him knowing his vendetta? Sympathy? Curiosity? His Attractiveness? Personal gain? If it was destiny or a red string of fate is involved then how would that play out in other route or choices in the game? And if it is the latter, then how would you meet a particular character without triggering the flags of other girls or getting locked out of their route if you missed their flag? Likewise how would you even get to them in the first place if the game is linear? For example, you want to get with the witch that lives in the swamplands, but the swamplands is only available in chapter four of the game or is a very difficult level that needs for your character to be a high level; how do you get with her without raising flags of other girls that would have been raised in the past chapters? Grinding? Making the level more open? Making the game in general open world? Making the game to action RPG where skills matter the most?

2) The game is a H-game, where the rewards and failure revolves around sex and intimacy between the characters. Just focusing one girl would mean many playthroughs of the game, something OK or even great in a visual novel/kinetic novel, would not be good in a RPG game less you do narrow down the choices of the player. This can be very tedious if not done correctly, so keep that in mind.

3) Only one partner can narrow down the game play as well, one partner can lead too little options within the game or lead to favoring one monster girl solely for gameplay purposes only.

Also if you do intend to have more than one partner how monogamy be possible in the game?

Long post, but I appreciate it. Let me do my best to reply.

There's only one Mario RPG in my eyes. Paper Mario is something different entirely, even if it is good. The intention is to focus on offensive defense, where you press a button at a certain animation frame to negate damage, and a frame perfect input results in a parry/counter attack that damages the opponent back. You can do massive amounts of damage if you're precise, but you can take little damage, so it's more skill based/involved than a vanilla turn based battle system. That said, it'll still be super easy, lol. I'm not looking to make a super hard game, but a mindlessly fun one. For instance, outside of boss fights, I'm thinking about just allowing you to attack grunts on the field like an old Zelda game or Ys, just to avoid the grind so prevalent in JRPG's. You better not die or I'm going to raugh at you. A weird blend of action RPG and turn based.

So far, I've only worked on the main character. The battle system is first person, like SMT, not like Final Fantasy where you see the character sprites. While it adds strategy to the battle by allowing you to have party members/trade them in and out for the special occasion their abilities are needed, I want to try something different and stick to one character, make it a little more personal. That doesn't sound very tactical, but it's supposed to be more arcadey than a traditional JRPG. I'm not opposed to letting other characters join you and having a party, but right now I just want to focus on that.

My main primary inspiration is a game called "The First Funky Fighter", where you punch the screen and kill alligator monsters with your fists. However, the main character of Grim Grotto is a Syphon Wizard, which means he cannot punch big tittied monster babes with his fists. The primary offensive spells take time to use, which leaves you open to attack. To compensate, Roan (MC insert name, you can change it) fights with a temporary close range offensive/defense technique, what I call 'Ballistic Vectors', which is tracing laser beams across space time using magic specific to the setting. If you've ever watched Fist of the North Star, it's like Nanto Sei Ken. It can only be activated in a split second, being used as a magical shield or a full-moon slicing animation, like a Samurai but with a laser beam. Roan ends battles against monster girls by tearing off their clothes, forcing them to cover themselves. Lewd, unclothed monsters would likely just fall in some provocative pose.

So a good portion of the potential partners congregate in one location on both sides. Good portion of yokai would live inside the fox's castle/imperial palace of Shin Chin-Chin. What Baofu, the kitsune character, does is purify water sources with magic. The yokai's village is expanding, but is under constant threat of FERAL yokai, some of whom actively poison their drinking supply. Baofu needs to continually purify new locations in order to keep her village from becoming sick, but her people lack warriors. However, her mother, Kayo, is distrustful of outsiders (Lol, Japanese Xenophobia) and only came to Grim Grotto to escape persecution from the Nip republic, who thought her presence was poisoning the leaders' minds. Still, in a act of desperation, they send out a letter asking for help, which you can choose to answer. The meat of the yokai side is basically earning their trust and gradually turning FERAL yokai over to their side.

Likewise, a good portion of potential partners on the fae/fiend side reside inside the vampire's mansion. Like Castlevania, lol. You're basically given a message for assistance from the local church (both sides basically asking for a mercenary to help them), where a girl has been bitten by a vampire. You arrive at a settlement that's almost 100% human, and are instructed by a big tittied nun and (not)Paladins to hunt down the evil vampires and destroy them. Story is basically country trotting across Grim Grotto in search of the mansion, fighting the beasts that call it home, and becoming their friend instead of their destroyer. Unless you want to destroy them and get yourself some paladin pussy (rofl-lawful).

Of course, there will be hidden girls and secret routes that aren't in those locations, with their own little questlines, but that's how you'll become introduced to these characters. You haven't met any of them before this story, that's too easy as far as writing goes. I prefer a challenge.

All my main characters are uniquely bizarre in some regard. Roan is hard to comment on, because I'm trying to leave his past blank in order to be an easier insert. However, if I were to describe him, I would call him cold, but not intentionally abrasive. Like a inviting embrace from a poltergeist, the action is plain to see, but hollow and ephemeral in practice. Capable of adequately expressing himself, especially when it comes to sweeping girls off their feet. Like a constitution forged from steel and a dick doused in gold. But despite being naturally charismatic and cunning, he is often overconfident and overambitious, viewing battle as a form of amusement. He has a love of pure intentions and noble ideals, divine retribution, and a healthy respect for earned power, specifically from those he sees as equal or stronger than he.

Only a fraction of the popular can use magic. Magic is called Chroma in this setting, if Chroma becomes too saturated it becomes all consuming. Among this fraction of magic users, there are four schools. You can only belong to one school, as each form of magic uses one part of your body, which means it's impossible to use any other form but that specific school. To wield magic, you must first sleep for one hundred years (this setting takes place in the future where people awaken from a century long sleep, so lots can use magic, lol) or you must be born from one who has. Most Monsters can use Chroma because of their origins, which is also where Chroma derives from. The Vapor Realm of Polybius. Anyway, there's Rune Magic (Which is like a Muscle Wizard), you can use magic instantly but you only have a limited amount in your blood, also it's mostly close ranged (think fighting game characters), Rune Magic comes from your heart. Syphon Magic, which is like traditional wizard magic with the casting, but it's infinite because you inhale Chroma from the air around you, Syphon Magic comes from your lungs. Soundwave Magic is magic that's unique to the individual, and thus can't be taught by others, only learned by yourself. Soundwave works as a mix between rune and syphon, where you can store mana in your brain and use it, and charge via posing fabulously. Pact Magic is the last one, and the only one you can get if you're not a natural magic user. Naturally, Pact Magic works by forming a bond with a monster, whom gives you a bit of her ability, but the two of you share the same life bar.

His natural charisma. Still would be dependent on the girl though, double lol.

The only destiny is the destiny you choose for yourself. If at certain points, if you were to choose to stab someone in the back in order to get with someone else, that would be entirely on you.

You meet a good chunk of the girls in the above mentioned areas, you just interact with them and do their storylines after you meet them in the intro. The rest are found outside of their routes/in new game plus via exploration. Sometimes choice.

The game's not level based, lol. You can go wherever you want as long as you're good. Even with his vanilla moveset, Roan can parry and slash like a super cool dude.

That's probably the hardest part. I'm relying on the sense of exploration outside the established two areas and the ability to ignore the two main stories and get straight to the other girls to fill that tedium. Although, obviously, there will be secret paths/stories as well to give it a bit more staying power.

If you don't like the girl you're going down the route for, you can choose another. As far as gameplay goes, again, you just play as the MC. I may allow more party members, but not at this point in time.

I could see the game playing like Rose & Camellia (a online flash game) where you move your mouse as fast and sharp as possible to slap your enemy and than dodge with a onscreen button prompt just with extra options to do specials or like a game called Parade Buster, a H-game where you have you have to click on the screen to disable your enemies attacks (they may also stun you, grapple you, rape you until you lose all of your health) and have to wait for your energy to charge/refill before attacking (to prevent spamming) and can set and switch your equipment in battle. And as for the magic system, I assume that the hero will be able to learn all the styles of magic correct? If so, would you set out the magic like so: rune magic will take your HP to use and allow you to attack with out depending on syphon magic; Syphon magic has a charge/anti spam standard move set; Soundwave magic would what sweeper attacks and status affect move (like screeching REEE to the enemy to stun, I am not, pose would intimidate, [not sure how posing would charge you soundwave mp though it would seem more dependent on you enemy than anything else]); and pack magic will be what ever the girls are willing to give you correct?

Also how did the protagonist and all of humanity sleep for a hundred years, via suspended animation/cryogenics? Why haven't all of humanity continue to freeze people to have a whole surplus of magic users? Also did the hero lost his family before this great sleep ala fallout 4, or did they died like moments after they awoken? Also let me guess the monsters invaded during the sleep correct or is it going to be like a colony dropping into another world/dimension of the mamodo world?

Also you said there is backstabbing and the potential to cheat on the girls, but there are other ways to getting to other girls right, under the assumption that you not in a relationship yet or partnership, right? I know that this is some what hypocritical to say as someone that sort of wanted a harem but I would not rather not have to betray the partners if I do not have too. Also with the strip/knockdown system I am really surprised that this is not a Rance type of game of just not sleeping with everyone/accumulating a harem/domesticating wild monster girls. Also a harem is something to be earned, especially if it is a skill based game.

Also, you just avoid the main storyline but just not answering their letters and just say I going to look for my own clues about my family or just rummage in the wild areas for no reason at all? I'm debating whether or not you can attack grunts on the field like an ARPG instead of fighting each and every one of them in a tedious JRPG sense. It's possible to do it, I feel like it would help alleviate the tedium while you're exploring areas.

I would call it a hybrid RPG with dating sim elements. As far as buttons go, it's just pressing the action button to do everything and a stat menu button. Magic is really straight forward, something like 'Space Ripper Phenomenon' hits all enemies on the field and 'Hell Dancing Spike' breaks an enemies guard. It's just that it takes time to cast spells, which leaves you open to attack.

No. One school. He's a syphon mage, he can only do syphon magic. That's not how magic works in this setting. If this were more expansive and had a character creator, I'd allow it, but that'd also include me balancing four separate magic systems as well as different sub categories for Soundwave users and Pact users, as they would have to have different magic/partners. Roan is not Rance. Different character, different actions. A harem essentially treats characters as disposable, but if you want to rape an evil villainous or something after battle, I'll consider it.

It's like in Way of the Samurai 4, you pick the general direction you're going for at the beginning of the game through opening choices. If you choose none of the story branches, you can just mess around freeform, and anytime you feel done, cast off out of Grim Grotto and get the neutral ending. Then restart from the top. Fulfilling a girl's questline after being locked into her route constitutes as clearing the game. It's not a main story ending, but it's still an ending.

You are a ronin wizard, you do whatever you want, makes perfect sense story-wise. Just ignore the letters if you don't want to do either main story and fuck around the world to find secret endings/secret routes and the like.

I cannot visualize how you would make critical attacks/timings if you cannot see your actions character or body. For example, Mario has his ultra jump move where you have press before you land on his target; how would you do that in FPS mode? Would you have the player totally depend on the enemy model for deciding on what to do? Even then, how would you tell when the fist/spell of the enemy is close enough to counter/defend? Perspective is everything in First Person view. That is why I was mentioning the Parade Buster and Rose and Camilla, they have first person perspective and/or good counter system with the cooldown for attacks. *Parade Buster is a fun game despite the clicking, you should try it out. It is better than what I make it out to be plus it has slime girls. Rose and Camilla is just a good way to kill two minutes or so**

If you are not born with magic nor done the centurion slumber, pact magic is the only magic a normal person can get. It's linking your soul with another, but it has both negative and positive side effects. Magic users can't form a pact, only people without magic.

He cannot use pact magic because he uses syphon magic. If you're a rune magician, expanding too much chroma spikes your metabolism and causes your skin to melt right off your body, killing you most painfully. If you fail to inhale magic just right, syphon magic can cause your lungs to implode. Soundwave magic can lobotomize you if you overexert yourself. Pact magic can act as a parasitic relationship instead of a partnership, and negative emotions can grow the bond just as well as positive.

You cannot mix the magic because you can only use one magic. Pact magic is off limits to magic users.

It's like a wheel. Rune magic is for jocks, Syphon magic is for nerds. They're on opposite sides. Soundwave magic is unique to the individual, Pact magic comes from a joint reunion of two people and their reliance to work together. Individualism vs Collectivism, also on opposite sides of the wheel. The wheel spins endlessly thanks to the balance of these four magics.

When the enemy flashes a color, press the action button. Simple as can be.

You'll be able to see your hands, which will flash when you want to time-attack. This is also in synchronization with an audio cue.

Just to be clear, all final drawings will have shading, it's just the first conceptual art that does not. I'm aware of how cheap the drawings look without shading, but I only have so much time in the day to sort through and design a few dozen monsters/people, which on top of everything else, is time consuming. Though monochrome looks better, finding the right color is important. But rest assured, I'll shade the shit out of the in-game pictures.

That said, I'm hearing half for pale skin and half for blue skin. I feel like blue skin should be reserved for sucky butts, but it all depends on what you guys look for in a vampire. I guess it depends on whether you'd find red/black or purple/blue more attractive.

-Gretta is arrogant and obsessive, but garners a playful and mischievous side. She's intelligent, and uses her decades upon decades of academia to her advantage. She especially understands the human condition, and uses this knowledge to manipulate any unwilling soul into doing her bidding. She's not particularly physically strong, but her mind coupled with her syphon magic makes her formidable. She speaks in a sulthy southern bell accent and occasionally tries to bully the dullahan by making her wear girly outfits.

-Vampires and Succubi are among the highest tier of Syphon Magic, simply because they can siphon magic from other living things. Vampires in particular can accumulate the physical and mental characteristics from the blood they drink. For instance, drinking holstaur blood gives them cow tits, fairy blood can give them a loli-like form. Vampires in Grim Grotto are not super strong, but being undead, the mental limitations your body automatically enforces upon you are nonexistent. What this means is, they are not super humanly strong, but they are at peak human strength. Unless, of course, they drink the blood of one with superior physical strength.

Also, what should I do next, the dollar ham or a dragon? Unless you have a request for some different monster girl? I'm open to a Baphomet, but not to it being a loli.

Couldn't they still injure themselves by putting 100% into every strike, I mean there is a reason we have these limitations, it's so we don't rip our tendons or muscles trying to lift a car. If they swing a punch with all their might and it misses, and doing so breaks every bone in their hand, it regenerates almost instantly. That said, if you're a /fit/ male, you'll be able to overpower a normal vampire. Obviously, after regenerating nonstop during a period of time, they'll slowly start to run out of strength and need to feed, because their strength is not infinite.

It's about 50/50. Get the general shape from 3D models and wing the rest. Use ol' Honey Select to get the angle/design right then draw it on a separate sheet. It's like how Araki used images of magazine covers for poses; I don't have the money for a little poser figurine so I kinda have to use a program to get posing just right, ie how the limbs bend and contort.

Honey Select's bodies kinda suck in general though, proportion-wise. Arms/hands are too big and the feet are kinda painted on, all the general features you have to actually draw yourself, and I do mean all of them. I wouldn't recommend it unless you know how to draw faces/fingers/toes and fix the proportions in your linework. But it does wonders if you want to know how Dio's picture pose looks from the back.

Update, So I've been working on a monster mash VN in time for Halloween, a continuation of the VN development that went on when NB was doing art and before this RPG, but I may have bitten off more than I can chew with redesigning horror monsters.

It's a simple enough plot. Kid runs away from abusive home, gets picked up by a vampire for a quick lunch, vampire takes pity on the boy and takes him with her toward her destination. The destination being a small boarding school located in a rural haunted swamp, with the deep blood ridden bogs. The boarding school houses the daughters of famous monsters, but in-universe monsters, not obvious ones like Dracula and the Wolfman. Expies of the same. The boy is brought in front of a Mistress of the Night/Elvira kind of woman who happens to be the headmaster. School is girls only, but she allows him to stay as she needs a housekeeper/servant.

Boy then ventures throughout the school, interacting with rambunctious monster girls with attitude, whom obviously think themselves ugly or freakish but have mushy insides. Adventure follows..

And /ss/.

But designing my own Frankenstein's monster or Mummy is proving to be difficult, let along choosing which monsters get in. I'm also running low on money, not sure if I can do anything on the internet that warrants monetary gain other than a playable video game. Here's hoping I can get over my developmental hump and get you guys something fun to fap to this Halloween.

Start with episode one being a fantastical take on fictional Indonesian, Southern American, and Germanic towns pulling monster girls from geographical myth. Hombre Gato, Wewe Gombel, Huldras, shit like that, less grotesque bastardizations and more kawaii.

Save Japan for episode 2 as well two other locations.

Close out with school shenanigans for episode 3 and climax.

I'm not stopping Grim Grotto's dev since it's taking forever or quitting BS Crystal, just picking up Blood Bayou's development from being scrapped entirely from a year back. Renpy VN is faster for me, a writer, to make since the hard part (artwork) is something I can do better now.

I watched Konosuba recently and decided to make a visual novel with a similar concept. Except, when the main character dies and is given the chance to be reincarnated into another world with MMO elements to fight the Devil King, he comes to find out that the server is full mid-warp. So he gets dumped into an ERP server instead by mistake, with the intent to still kill the Devil King and go on RPG adventures with a party.

It's just, you know, everyone wants to fuck instead.

I updated my renpy recently, but the goddamned thing didn't save my settings and so now my gui is fucked. I've been having a frustrating time figuring out the scripting locations again; it's streamlined a bit, but I was so used to the old directories that it's flipped me upside down.
