Eh, take it from someone who has it, aspergers really isn't all that bad. Sure, childhood is a pain for the kid and parents alike because we have a hard time understanding social norms for a while, but it gets played up way too much.
Think of it like this. Someone with aspergers mentally ages a bit slower. We tend to act a few years younger than we really are, though we don't realize it until later in our lives. There does come the added benefit of pattern recognition though, complicated math comes naturally to us.
Of course not everyone gets to lucky, and there are those who just can't function right, but they are few are far between. Those poor sods tend to be used like a boogeyman, because fear-mongers always need something to shove in people's faces.
