This show is actually a million times better than it should be. The CGI is pure shit, the seiyuu budget is nonexistant, and all the serious story elements (like the weird geometry ayylmao enemies) are fucking retarded.
However, despite all that, it manages to be incredibly cute, fun, and down-to-earth with what it's got. And the designs of the cute kemonogirls is definitely ace. It's just wonderful. Might even qualify for top 5 anime airing this season.

I think I finally get it. This show was actually an experiment in community culture and the memetic growth of content. The creators themselves likely had wonderful ideas on how to direct the show, but lacked the resources and manpower for the vision. So they had a challenge: how garbage can we make a show appear while simultaneously creating a cult following?

Personally, I think Humanity is fine and dandy. I think Japari park is a nice terraformed planet zoo set up by Humanity to contain every single animal/Friends and be almost fully autonomous, while they fucked off somewhere else. They visit when necessary or whenever people would want to visit a zoo.
My supporting evidence is that Friends in living memory remember humans, which would be incongruent with the disrepair of services in the zoo if true. Not only that, but it'd obviously be impossible for Kaban-chan to be alive if all Humans were dead. And last but not least, that sort of setting would destroy and taint the tone of the show. The only thing I haven't pieced together is what role the Ceruleans serve.

I dunno if frostbite is a good descriptor, but her hands and legs from her feet up to past her knees were blackened after she was resurrected and she was able to climb and slide down the tree really fast without any apparent pain in her hands. She likely lost all feeling in those parts of her body.

Her tights and gloves are regenerating, which is an odd detail, but you can see she has socks up to her knees and black fingertips during the amusement park sequence, but by the time of the last sequence her socks go up to her thighs and her fingers are definitely black.

This is going to be long and autistic so bear with me. Friends clearly somehow end up with clothing reminiscent of their species, and until the bath scene they don't actually know they can remove them. The clothes had to get there somehow, and Kaban's transformation shows us how.
Kaban isn't human so much as she's a "Human Friend", grown from Mirai's hair and Sandstar. If she were purely human she would have been naked, but as we can see from my first screencap, she's returned to her "natural form" without her gloves and tights. By the time she attends the amusement park party a month later, you can see she has black fingertips and what seems to be black socks (2, 3, 4). Lastly, when she's leaving Japari Park, she's seen with entirely black fingertips and legs up to her thighs (5).
It is the belief of this anon that Friends grow their clothing as part of their skin before it finalizes as clothing that can be removed at will, which makes Kaban not human, as humans can obviously not grow their own clothing off their skin, but a "Human Friend".

Anon, I just watched the finale free of spoilers and it felt so good, so fucking good. I wish there was some way I could let you feel the satisfaction I experienced, but just like Japari Park, that is just a fantasy. So I just finished watching the last couple episodes a few days ago. The series was a lot better than I was expecting at first, and hope there's a second season. My only real question I have is just where Japari Park is; Some random Pacific islands that had the atmosphere directly around it fucked with to account for the different weather of the Areas? Are they man-made islands? Another planet? I was also wondering about when the staff on the island left. It had to have been a long while, due to very few Friends remembering humans and the state of disrepair and dilapidation of all the buildings, especially the Library having a tree grow through it and all. At LEAST half a century.
