He's assuming that Sam made his off the cuff improv videos vertical on purpose, rather than not giving a shit. His vertical videos were well liked because they were funny and obvious improvisations and most of the time you could tell that he got inspiration from people he's met and he also joked about things relating to niche subjects only (at the time) deep cave dwelling internet mongoloids could very much relate to and of whom were mostly teenagers or young adults at the time, there was also the dash of casual careless edginess and racism which was also a minor pull.
Now you have zoomers clinging to Sams old shit because internet zoomers are the next generation of epic memerz and that ironic style has been swirled into a grey sludge, like what happens when you mix many different colors of paint together, that's not say the golden nuggets still don't exist but it's harder to find because everyone has a cool internet device now, even 5 year olds.
Now there's a lot of others trying to do ironic social commentary and memes without much real relatable depth or depth itself.
All of his other stuff wasn't vertical because they were projects he actually cared to polish, somewhat, and you can tell in his polished sketches the style of comedy is a distilled form of his improvastions strongly paired with writing from Carroll, Rochefort and Sam himself (and many other contributors). His most popular video that was on the top page of reddit, before the channel was deleted (a video of which spiked channel viewership an absolute fuckton) wasn't even written by Hyde himself but by Jan Rankowski.
The people that imitate his style and put thought into the vertical framing of the camera simply to imitate Sams off the cuff videos however are quite boring. In some videos there's those that try to emulate the odd MDE aesthetics where there's an abundance of eclectic graphics and designs, which mirrors a lot of 80s/90s graphics which I think Sam was going for, I still enjoy the aesthetics when it's done correctly and not a tumultous mess.
