This is some nice lore. Why haven't people done this cyoa yet?
…okay, it puts you as an animal in service to a powerful mage, rather than getting to be a mage with an animal companion, but… meh? Whatever
<My Summoner
No, I'm not calling them master.
>Child Witch
I could see myself missing privacy, but at the same time I would also enjoy so much company. This is nice because I'll be learning things alongside my summoner- let's call her Lesca, and having access to other familiars sounds useful as well
<Me
I know my name, I don't feel it necessary to write it down
>Carbuncle
That's right, I'm taking the prodigy route
>The body (Cleanse)
Humanize and The Forest's Wild Shape were both tempting, but it's hard for me to resist taking a healing option, and this one sounds really powerful
>Ray
>charming
>speedy
Locked into these due to being what I am
>Protector and Sage
Look, I realize that I don't have any of the recommendations for either job, but lure and mascot just sounded really, really dumb. And the cyoa creator themselves stated there's no wrong answers in this cyoa, so I feel I can do a good enough job protecting Lesca using my lasers and charming information out of people. And in the event I do fuck something up, I can heal and try again.
<As a child…
>The king's fair
The fact that this kid has a carbuncle should be enough to get people interested, and my Rays should qualify as a nice, flashy trick, but once we get into the duels? We're gonna start kicking ass and taking names. My build is super annoying to fight against, and I don't even know what my summoner can do. And chances are this thing has some sort of prize to it too, which will be a really nice change of pace from life in the orphanage… though we'll probably just blow it all on sweets.
<As an adult
>The Labyrith
Yes, she was a child when she summoned me, but we're in this for life. I've done a good job of protecting Lesca so far, and she's been living up the the expectations of her, but it's not enough to just be appreciated. She's out of the orphanage and looking to make sure her next home is a lot nicer, and it just so happens that there's a nearby dungeon loaded with gold. My gem will light the way to new adventures!
<The Grand Summit
>Duel of the century
It's that punk-ass boy the got second place in the king's faire when we were all kids. Such a sore loser that he claims Lesca and I don't belong here even after we beat the shit out of him when we were just starting out. But you know what? Maybe he's gone senile in his old age. Maybe he just needs a reminder of what we can do. No complaints here.
Had a lot more fun with this than I expected. The world's an interesting one and the builds have some depth without being too complex. It emphasizes roleplaying and writing and having fun, rather than being as strong as possible, and does a good job of delivering on that. The fact that it does put you as the familiar instead of the mage seems a bit arbitrary, but it gives about equal attention to both. Overall I'd rate this a good 4/5
