The idea of why people say that is because stereotypically guys have a way higher sexdrive than girls, meaning that it's easier for guys to find a guy who wants to fuck than for guys to find a girl. That plus the "all gays are promiscuous supersluts" meme.

Of course in practice it's bullshit because the ratio of socially akward dudes who are afraid to approach people doesn't change based on sexual orientation, and there's way fewer gay men than there are straight women.
