They have been pushing Bee hard for years even though I think most of his incarnations suck or are just bland
No.999851
The director is Travis Knight, who directed every Laika film, including Paranorman and Kubo. The writer is Christina Hodson, a nobody who has only two films under her belt and is writing the Birds of Prey and Batgirl movies (and is probably why this new Bee film stars a girl instead of a boy).
On the plus side, the designs for the bots look a million times better than the Bay directed films, with more emphasis on solid vehicle parts for armor.
Apparently the director said its not Starscream in the film, but he even has his G1 head design and coloration, there's no way it's not Starscream.

That's awesome but I don't understand why they keep pushing this bullshit of Bumblebee being mute like it's some important character trait that should never be changed in any of his incarnations like Starscream being a backstabber or Jazz having ghetto accent

It is still in continuity with the Bay films. The voice over is Bernie Mac's character from the first Bay film.

Seriously, they have colors! And actual solid forms instead of being made of billions of shards of metal. And all it needed was to be taken away from Bay.
I wish they'd have ignored the mute thing too, but it's in continuity, so I guess it was unavoidable.

I'm legitimately impressed by the way the Transformers look and move in this, and how much better and more endearing Bumblebee is. If they don't botch it, this could be like a low-tier Iron Giant movie.

That's more of a result from the vehicles decepticons picked. They were mostly military or law enforcemnt so dull colors were default, but there were a few civilian vehicle cons that had bright colors before the prequel.

True, it's also an effect from Bay deciding to go realistic with the vehicles, in a film with transforming aliens and multiple instances of outright techno-magic.
Starscream in this Bumblebee movie is a white jet with red accents and an orange windshield, so thankfully they seem to be throwing out such an unnecessary constraint.
I'm trying to remember any Decepticons in the Bay films with actual color on them. Maybe the Constructicons in 2?

>The writer is Christina Hodson, a nobody who has only two films under her belt and is writing the Birds of Prey and Batgirl movies (and is probably why this new Bee film stars a girl instead of a boy).
The writing is already red flagging for me. Bumblebee is somehow the one cowering in the corner. Sure Bee could be confused and on guard but even grown ass men would be running out of that garage after seeing somthing that alien and unexpected. And the dialog isn't sitting well either she asks "who are you?" instead of "what" to a creature she has never seen before, then asks "can you speak?" before "what's you're name?". The whole scene flows unnaturally, I mean why did bumblebee even transform to begin with? There was no conscious reason to do it, and there was nothing to force him unwillingly. The script dictated these characters had to meet so they did. Even the first Bayformers knew how to build up the reveal.
No.1000346
>>1000321
It looks like the implication is that Bee is actually a lot younger than when we saw him in the Bayformer films. Like around kid to teenager. Honestly, it kinda miffs me, but mostly because I'm not a fan of the concept of Transformers having a child stage in their development. Like I feel like it's an organic element that kinda miffs the whole robot in the robots in disguise. Like remember in G1 when you can just build the body and apply the personality through some alien program or spark?

Bumble Bee lives in this weird limbo where they want to make him the next Rodimus but he still has to be the child appeal character. Like the difference between Animated Bumble Bee or Prime Bumble Bee. To be honest I kinda wanted Jazz in this movie since hes the Autobot who is basically a Humanaboo
No.1000437
>>1000352
>the child appeal character
I don't understand why there is one like that at all. What kind of little boy doesn't like cars, robots, planes, dinosaurs, monsters and military vehicles? It's all in there at once. You don't need a kid-character among the robots, that's what the Witwicky-boys were for. They were the humans who fight alongside the robots, and you can associate yourself with them while picking your favourite Transformer.
For kids, it's not the character's personality what sells the toys, but rather thier looks. If it's big and awesome, you will want one. As a kid, I always wanted a Unicron, because he was the biggest, most badass robot. I really liked Grimlock too, because he was big, strong, wielded a flaming sword and transformed into the King of the Dinosaurs. If you have guys like them, why would you care about characters like Bumblebee?
