The archive of the older, funnier comics, from before the Cerebus Effect kicked in are in some godforsaken format that probably went out with Betamax, Eight-Track and fucking wax cylinders. Does anyone know how to play these things, or failing that, where we can find scans of the actual paper comics?

Or do I have to buy a gramophone or a laser disk player to read them? Do they play on an Etch-a-sketch? A Viewmaster? A fucking Magnadoodle?

Well, a cursory look at the Page Info it's as easy as right click> view page info > media tab you mongoloid the only media element that stands out is "issueXX.dcr" so I'd suggest downloading the .dcr file and figuring out how to open it.

Thank you, Captain Obvious, you've summarised my post! Without actually offering a solution, I should point out.

Fuck me that cover looks more tryhard than even the worst of the Viz rip-offs.

I tried downloading "File Reader Plus", at the online store's suggestion, but it was stumped.

Viz? What in the ever-loving… You come from the "cartoons" side of "comics and cartoons", don't you? I can tell you're not much of a reader.

Ooh boy…

This is the extension for Shockwave files, the ancestor of Adobe Flash, and it's no longer supported by any modern browser. So your best bet is finding a Shockwave setup, installing Shockwave, then trying the file with internet explorer all this inside a virtual machine if you could

Viz IS a comic, started in the UK as a fanzine in 1977, got really popular around 1989 and spawned a bunch of ripoffs that thought "hurr swearing and sex" would make them equally as profitable. One of the most infamous being Ziggy, which had "edgy" covers much like OP's pic, only with edited photos instead.

Update: I gave it a try and it worked. You can download Shockwave here:

Dude. I know Viz. I read the first issue when it first came out. I probably still have it. What I'm saying is that Viz has nothing to do with this comic, apart from them both being comics.

My point is that maybe reading the fucking comic would have prevented you looking like a braying jackass.

And Viz covers are a satire of British tabloids, this one Platinum Grit cover is a take off of faux-classy mommy porn women's magazines like Cleo and Cosmopolitan.

I never noticed before, she's wearing an IUD as an ear-ring.

Man, I still remember waiting for Platinum Grit to update some decade-odd ago. Those were more optimistic times.
