About a year ago I uploaded some stuff for you guys about an OC comic I was working on. Happy to say that about a year later the first issue is ready and complete. As a show of support to /co/ I'm giving you guys the whole thing for free as a story time. Consider it my gift to you guys for Free Comic Book Day.

Without further ado, here's issue #1 for A.F.E. Alter-Form Enzjinn, a powered-armor comic book inspired by toku like Kamen Rider.

Cool shit, anon. Congrats on getting something made, and congrats further on having it be not shit

I don't like the art style because it's not "clean" enough, but it's good shit

 No.990870

Thanks for the feedback. I'm proud that I was able to get something out there to the public. It's been a very long, very costly road for sure.

 No.990979

>>990870

Nice, reminds me of the best SF from the 80's black and white boom, before the Dark Age kicked in.

You ever read Hedrax, or Dragon's Star, or M.I.C.R.A.?

 No.991092

>>990979

While I'm not familiar with Dragon's Star or MICRA, I have -heard- of Hedrax but have never taken the time to seek it out and read it. I stumbled upon its namesake when I was looking up anthology comics and came across Eureka.

It was a decision early on to make the art style of AFE a black and white, realistic look. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford a color budget, so I sought out someone who could make black and white stand on its own. I think Brian does a fantastic job in that.

 No.991120

>>991092

Yeah, there aren't too many artists with the linework and inking skills to make black and white pop like that.

It's refreshing to see someone doing the lush Brian Bolland-type inking instead of trying to be Frank Miller or Simon Bisley.

Other stuff in the same military-SF vein I could pimp are Appleseed, Venus Wars, and Dreadstar. Otto Carius: Tigers Covered In Mud and Area 88 if you want 20th century warfare for inspirado.

I''m impressed you've heard of Hedrax. It was only three episodes before Eureka died, but it was a big deal for me, one of the first Australian comics I ever saw, and one of the first anime-style I read, getting little me hooked on Dirty Pair and Battle Angel Alita. Really early work from Steve Stamatiadis, who went on to bigger things, like Star Wars.

 No.991472

>>991120

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll look into a few of them that I've not heard of and see if anything lights a spark.

Right now I'm having to focus on optimizing this for physical print and send this into Comixology, which has an excruciatingly long turnaround period.

 No.991515

>>990854

Today OP was not a fag.

Good shit.

Something I noticed is that our heroes, the Ronen force from Ada, are apparently aware that the Ada colony/settlement is a matter of legend. Is this just Doyen and co. assuming that the local legends carry some weight of accuracy or are they somehow aware of local stories independent of their actual ability to have had heard them before?

Just saying because if I draw parallels, it's like if Cortez heard that he resembled one of the Aztec gods (he did) and immediately hammed it up.

 No.991569

>>991515

I've always figured that Doyen is making an assumption that like how Deius is a legend on Ada, Ada is a legend on Deius. It turns out to be an accurate assumption, but it is just an assumption.

As an aside, I'm leaving the Gumroad page up indefinitely as a "pay what you like" link. It's more important at this point to get folks interested in the series more than financial gains, and nothing seems to interest folks more than free shit.

 No.991589

So, it's like the Battlestar Galactica reboot meets The Guyver?

 No.992133

>>991589

I've never seen Battlestar Galactica but Guyver was definitely an influence.

 No.992884

I guess as long as I'm pimping good comic book SF I should mention Jodorowski and Moebius' "The Incal", Walt Simonson's "Star Slammers", Elaine Lee's "Starstruck", and "Valerian and Laureline".

Valerian and Incal come out of the Metal Hurlant generation of French comics, and Starstruck and Slammers came out of the Heavy Metal movement towards mature comics it inspired in America.

Also Jack Kirby's Captain Victory and The Galactic Rangers, which never gets nearly enough credit for all the crazy shit Kirby was doing in it.

 No.995685

Always glad to see an anon making it in. Best wishes to you, ma.

 No.996815

>>995685

I definitely wouldn't say that I've made it in anywhere yet, but I've at least managed to sneak onto the property and look in through the window. I do appreciate the encouragement, though.

Thanks, OP. It was pretty good and it's nice to see someone from here complete their project. It took a while to grab me, but once crew was on the space ship I was into the story.

Are there any plans for a second volume?

 No.1004806

>>1004568

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it!

I intend to at least make six issues regardless of whether it nets any sort of financial success, all roughly about the size of this one.

About half of issue two is currently drawn but I don't expect to release it until at least the beginning of next year.

Any news, OP?

 No.1012177

Dropped in late to the thread but damn op good shit. I liked the art and the fact you did it on paper and not on a tablet or in a program is even more impressive. It looks sharp.

I don't know mutch about ink but as a comment I'm glad the art kept its sense of depth by using the ink well. (things in the foreground being lit or shaded while things in the background being a silhouette for instance. Or the reverse)

The story and characters I liked too, evrn if it did seem a little generic.

 No.1021321

>>1011722

Do you at least have a rough idea of how and when it will be released? And be careful to not get ripped off. Physical release might be more trouble than it's worth. Shit like storage, printing, and so on costs money.

 No.1021391

>>1021321

My first publisher was a college kid on a grant who went through some lesbian publisher who talked him into getting bromides, which blew the budget for issue #2.

I guess I'm dating myself, all that shit is probably digital now.

nice, good job anon.

I didn't read the OP so I thought this was an older comic and was expecting more issues.
