Forbes just spoiled the fuck out of Avengers 3 and everyone is mad, which means we can probably trust them.
>Hawkeye is not in the movie. Neither is Ant-Man. Clint is mentioned, but everyone's favorite archer is much too busy playing tag to save the world.
>Loki dies. He kind of had this coming for a long time. He doubled crossed Thanos in the first Avengers movie and even though he gives up the Space Stone (contained in the Tesseract) and tries to again trick Thanos, Thanos kills him. Thanos also fights the Hulk, but Hemidal sends Hulk to Earth in the nick of time. At this point, Thanos already has the Power Stone after apparently destroying Xandar.
>Hulk doesn't return. We see the Hulkbuster in the trailer, and that's actually Bruce Banner in the suit. After his interaction with Thanos, he's unable to turn back into the Hulk and joins the battle in Wakanda against Thanos' forces in the Hulkbuster suit. There is a running joke throughout that Hulk, after getting beat down by Thanos, doesn't want to come back out.
>Stan Lee is a bus driver.
>Gamora dies. Thanos, after obtaining the Reality Stone from The Collector (Thanos now has three stones), he separates the Guardians of the galaxy and takes Gamora. It should be noted that Thanos teleports all over the place throughout the movie, taking the action with him. He also has a couple sidekicks that take on individual Avengers to obtain stones. Thanos takes Gamora to his ship, where he is torturing Nebula. Eventually Gamora gives up the location of the Soul Stone. To retrieve it, Thanos has to sacrifice Gamora. She tries to kill herself but Thanos tosses her off a ledge on the Soul Stone planet and retrieves the stone. Four stones down, two to go.
>Thor forges Stormbreaker. In the comic universe, Stormbreaker was originally created by Odin (with help from the Dwarves of Nidavellir) after Beta Ray Bill was found worthy of lifting Mjolnir. In the movie, Thor, Rocket and Groot visit a CGI dwarf played by Peter Dinklage to create the new hammer with a heart of a dying star. Thor does some things, gets burnt a bit and after Groot supplies the handle of the hammer, Thor has a new weapon to take on Thanos with.
>Dr. Strange just gives Thanos the Time Stone. During the battle on Titan, in which Thanos again teleports to, Thanos almost loses the Infinity Gauntlet. Stark, Dr. Strange, the Guardians and Spider-Man (who spends a lot of time in space, thanks to a new suit from Stark) formulate a plan to separate Thanos from his Nintendo Power Glove. However, Star-Lord flips out when he learns of Gamora's death and the plan is bonked. He beats the crap out of Iron Man and stabs Tony. In order to save him, Dr. Strange gives up the Time Stone because that seems totally logical. Spider-Man takes a whupping in this scene as well. Thanos now has five stones, making it look easy.
>Vision dies. In order to hopefully prevent Thanos from getting the Mind Stone, the Scarlet Witch separates the Mind Stone from Vision, killing him in the process. Using the Time Stone, Thanos is able to go back to that moment, and snatches the Mind Stone. Before getting the stone, Thanos battles Captain America, who is defeated. For the moment, Steve seems to be alive but badly beaten. With that, Thanos now has all the Infinity Stones.
>Stormbreaker doesn't work. Arriving back on Earth, Thor is able to jab Thanos with Stormbreaker, thinking a nice sharp hammer through the gut should do the trick. Didn't you learn anything from John Wick Thor? Always aim for the head. Thanos doesn't die but instead snaps his massive fingers and disappears. He's got to find Mikey and get that pirate treasure. No wait, he's got to go fight Deadpool. No wait, he's off to help The Collector take down drug cartels. Regardless, all seems lost.
>Ash to ash, dust to dust. Spider-Man turns to ash in Tony's arms, like the end of 30 Days of Night. We see Black Panther, Mantis, Drax, Bucky, Dr. Strange and Star-Lord all turn to ash. Everyone turns to freaking ash. Even Maria Hill and Nick Fury turn to ash in the after credits scene, as they watch the world around them turn to chaos. On Fury's com screen, you do catch a glimpse of the Captain Marvel logo, so that might give a hint as the fate of our heroes.

This was going through my mind as well. Comic fans have been stating that characters will be dying since whispers about the film first surfaced. However, to go and kill everyone (Especially since it is known that they have another Spider-Man, a third GotG, and Black Widow film in the works) just come across as nothing more than the writers finally reaching an "edgy" phase because "It will drive up the sales with people wanting to know what happens". And, from what I've been told, IW is selling more tickets than all of the previous films combined.

Okay, just got back from seeing it and loved it for all the wrong reasons.
Although the fight scenes are very well done (specially the Thanos fight on Titan) the last one on Wakanda was a mess, its just people just bumping into each other and jumping around.
A lot of the movie could have been condensed a bit further but the runtime as a whole was good for a 2 and a half hour movie.
Overall its a decent movie to view on a weekend.
Now what I loved the movie for is killing off so many of the cast, I loved being in the theater being smug as retards were gasping and screaming no when their favorite heroes turned to ash, specially the landwhales gasping at Peters demise and disgusting fat bearded faggots covering their mouths as if someone of their family just died, it made me get a slight grin.
Now do people dont fucking realize that they are all coming back? Have none of them read the source material? Come on, the sequel movies have already been greenlight, its not rocket science.
My big concern is how they built up Captain Marvel, she's was a fucking nobody in the comics until recently and Marvel is putting all their eggs in her basket, I dread to think how they will make Thanos + Infinity Gauntlet job against her so they can do a big reset and make him a space hobo like in the end of Infinity Gauntlet.

I just finish watching it and it was pretty good for a cape flick. There weren't annoying quips every 10 seconds and the movie focused on action after the initial set up. I think Venom is either going to take Spiderman's place or Venom will take place pre-IW, so that Spiderman can show up again. He really was enjoyable to watch. As other anons mentioned, the wakanda fight was really messy. I also didn't care much for Vision. Captain America had numerous good scenes and so did the rest of the main avengers in general. The movie can stand on its own if you can accept that most of the cast dies. Thanos gets a peaceful ending and the gauntlet looks like it got fried when it killed off half the universe. Quill went retarded though when he went berserk on Thanos at the worst possible time. I don't even know how they'll do gotg 3 with most of them being dead. Because Marvel Studios suck at writing. Were this the comics, we could argue considering that even when the execution is a fumble, a lot of the old writers actually gave a fuck about cosmology, fable, metaphysics, and themes. Were I to handle it as it is, it'd be about a free will thing. I would say that Thanos doesn't want to play God, he wants to do a soft reset so that the remaining half of a given population would potentially learn the lesson. Arthurian Green Knight shit.
However, in the movie he kills all the Asgardians left except Thor, blew up Zandar off-screen, and inexplicably doesn't use the Time Stone to bring back half of his species, among other things.
Why? Because the writers are idiots. They have a ludicrously powerful telekinetic/literal alien warlock die from being vented into space and have Tony Stark call aforementioned character 'Squidward'. We have Spongebob References in a billion dollar action movie. Just stop and don't think about that.

They straight-up do not. His cocoon was included in the Collector's menagerie as an easter egg because the writers and the director for GoTG 1 were given a catalogue of Marvel's bullshit and they thought it looked cool. They did the same thing with the 'Sakaaran Soldiers' because, at the time, they had no plans to ever adapt Planet Hulk and then they did, last minute, just to crowbar something different into Ragnarok so the director of that pile of shit wouldn't actually have to put any gravity to the whole 'death and rebirth of a world/people/civilization' or anything.

After seeing the movie, I somehow doubt this. They're too corporate, to hysterically allergic to creativity to actually try a real reboot when they can just have Captain Manjawvel plot all the characters back in the part 2 - they're absolutely going to do that when they got rid of almost all their black characters (which is retarded from their perspective considering who they're trying to pander to) and the most popular of the new guard.

Since she's a female superhero with a modicum of recognition amongst normalfags, I'm going to go ahead and guess that they are going to hinge the entire MCU on Captain Marvel. Her movie will be shit, loaded with the typical hollywood feminist bullshit, of course. The real problem is going to be when they introduce her and then immediately establish her as the strongest fucking character in the universe. Idiots will eat it up, just like they did with Black Panther where they established that everyone in Wakanda is better than everyone else at everything forever.
So, Carol will fly into the story, grab the Infinity Gauntlet, beat Thanos near to death like no one ever could before, then successfully wield all the infinity stones without breaking a sweat and use it to deus ex machina the MCU back to status quo.

Yes, Thanos is killing half the universe because he believes in "balance", he says that there's too many mouths to feed and too little to go around so it always ends with people fighting for resources, hes a die hard Malthusian.
Death wasnt introduced and I honestly doubt she will be, shes a bit too esotheorical to add into the MCU (or I believe thats the reason).

They didn't bring up death, instead they went with Thanos having proposed his philosophy once on his planet only to be ignored and for him not to push the issue which resulted in his home world dying. He feels directly responsible for this and that by ignoring his ideals he failed, which is a way easier motivation to understand than wanting to fuck death.
I'm absolutely certain that they'll end the second film with a fuzzy reset. With enough stuff happening that they can put any property they get their hands on in the movies that come after it. If I were a betting man I would wager the second movie will be about finding a way to get everyone back so they can go after Thanos with the full team. Then in the climax enough chaos starts to happen that the universe becomes 'fluid' with different characters phasing into and out of existence mid fight for fan service for lesser known characters. Then it's a relatively simple and inexpensive matter of doing a short intimate resolution scene with a few characters to establish who's staying and who is going with a few shots of new things happening in the world to tease other franchises that will enter production.

The Reality Stone in the MCU, from what we know, only works when the user is present and hasn't left. However, the Reality Gem in the comics alters reality on a grand scale regardless of whether the user is present. It required all 6 Stones to erase half of existence in the MCU, whereas the Reality Gem in the comics could simply create a similar reality minus half the population if the user wanted to, IIRC.

This movie was good, but there was too much
>This must happen for the plot to continue the way it can
They literally show in the first 20 minutes of the movie someones hand getting chopped off by a portal and it never comes up for the rest of the fucking movie when the villain relies entirely on the fact they have a magic gauntlet.
They decide to defend Wakanda out in the open instead of bunkering around the defensive position of the city using their flight crafts to shoot down approaching enemies. When the enemy swarm around the shield, they're like 'oh no, we moved our entire army away from the city, I guess we have to let down our shield so they'll attack us from the front'.
Do you know what would have happened if the US military were in that position? Combined fucking arms. Air support hit the carriers, mech supported by infantry on the ground or, god forbid, artillery fire to waste the enemy front line. There is a reason armies don't charge at each other in a melee these days; the effectiveness of our modern ranged weaponry is devastating in the face of an all-melee foe.
Not to mention the invaders then completely subvert the need to fight them out the front at all half way into the fight.
And the fight on Titan was retarded.
Oh yeah, Star Lord, you're about to defeat Thanos, rather than wait another five seconds just go nuts, egg him on Nebula! Good thing Iron Man stopped helping remove the gauntlet otherwise Spider Man would have never been able to almost get it off Thanos. Well how else is Thanos going to win if the heroes don't act like idiots?

His canon motivation makes more sense than this shit. Sure, it's grimdark wankery, but killing everyone to impress death herself is villainous enough to sit fine with normalfags. Plus, it gives them an excuse to cast another "strong female character" in the role of Death. And if that's not good enough, just off the top of my head, here's several other motivations that would have worked just as fine
>Thanos wants to kill tons of people so that all other forces will remain weak and never able to challenge his reign as the Supreme Raisin
>Thanos wants to kill lots of people on Earth, specifically the Avengers and their allies, because many of them possess the potential to wield the Infinity Stones, which he believes is too dangerous for the universe, as they literally have the power to control creation itself
>Thanos must kill and destroy to vent power off the Infinity Stones, otherwise they explode and unmake existence
>Thanos sees himself as an arbiter of the natural order and sees galactic-scale genocide as nothing more than a controlled burn, so that new life and nature may grow in its place
>Thanos is obsessed with his own power, being one of the few beings in the universe capable of wielding all the stones, so of course he wants all of them so he can use them, because why not, but he also wants to see if anyone else is remotely capable of challenging him, too

I just saw the movie, and I'm rather peeved.
>Thanos starts off with the Power Stone
This is fine. It means he's a huge threat by default, but they selectively ignored the ability to manipulate energy, which was weird. The fight with the hulk was also a bit odd, since Hulk went down like a little bitch, but whatever, MCU hulk is a pussy.
>Obtains the Space Stone
So now he can control all of space…but only uses it for teleporting and making shields. This is a criminal underuse of its potential, but still not enough to get mad about it. What is irritating is the fact that he can now teleport at will, but still thinks that he needs to send his lackeys around in order to collect the stones for him.
>Obtains the Reality Stone
I genuinely liked the "he had it the whole time" twist where he was testing Gamora. I did not like the fact that his ability to manipulate what is and is not was treated as an illusion creating power that wears off if he's not right next to you. This is straight-up retarded, and really brings the nerfing of MCU characters into focus, since they have to make the Reality Stone 99.9% useless in order to give the heroes a chance.
>Obtains the Soul Stone
Aside from being weirded out at the sudden appearance of Red Skull, I didn't have a problem with the way this one played out. Not introducing any higher cosmic entities means no Inbetweener, so they made something up by having the stone hide in its own pocket dimension. The fact remains that everyone he fought should have immediately died simply because he desired it, but rather than nerfing it, they ignored it entirely. Maybe everyone who turned to ash at the end was simply taken into the Soul Stone, and freeing them from its pocket dimension is what they're going to use as the fix in the future.
>Obtains the Time Stone
I wish Doctor Strange wasn't a complete waste in the MCU. He's a like a D&D wizard who isn't allowed to use any of the good spells because the DM thinks that the 3.5 Monk is the pinnacle of game balance, and it really shows. They go out of their way to show the portals cutting off a guy's hand, but don't do it to Thanos even after restraining him for several minutes. He has the power to do-over loop the entire fight like he did with Dormamu, but just hands it over because "It's the only way". Rather than being a retard, how about he act like the SORCERER SUPREME and rewind time to stop Starlord from fucking everything up? The plan was a complete success up until that point, so saying that beating him is impossible is an outright lie, and the writers should be ashamed of themselves.
>Obtains the Mind Stone
I felt a physical sense of relief when they had Thanos steamroll everyone while walking towards Vision, because he finally looked like he was at least pretending to hold the physical embodiments of universal aspects in his hand, but the fact that anyone in that group was slowing him down at all just shows how wimpy and impotent the MCU stones are. They are so weak that, even after obtaining all 6 Infinity Stones, the movie implies that Thor could have killed him with an axe to the head. It was stupid.
>Other things
Not having Death around as his object of desire really cripples Thanos as a character. Even if you wanted to restrict the scope of the MCU by not bringing in cosmic entities, the anons in this thread have invented dozens of better motivations than "resources are scarce, so we need population control", and repeatedly pointed out just how and why this is stupid by the movie's own logic.
Spiderman getting the Iron Spider suit completely undermines the progress made in Homecoming, and he takes off his mask way to often. Both of these could have been solved by a Starktech oxygen mask, but they probably didn't go that route because "muh face time" and a chronic addiction to overdesigned costumes.
Hulk refusing to come out was weird and distracting. I can't fathom why they did this, and it wasn't talked about in the movie, so I can only conclude that some retard thought that having him hulk out of the crippled Hulkbuster Armor would not be an awesome and memorable shot.
I cringed myself inside out when the Wakandan science girl started talking about Vision's brain structure. I was sick of her the second they introduced her in Black Panther, and every movie that has her in it is worse off for it.
The battle scene at Wakanda was dumb. Their weirdly selective barrier was dumb, and being able to just tunnel underneath it made me seriously angry, because the writers were deliberately making stupid decisions in order to add more pointless crap to a battle that shouldn't have taken place to begin with.
Black Panther saying "This is no place to die" and then immediately disolving made me laugh out loud, and destroyed what little tension I had managed to hold on to.

Strange looked into the futures. The one timeline where everyone doesn't die is one where Thanos win, then the heroes come back to kick his shit in and get the Infinity Gauntlet back, then resurrect everyone.
>Hulk refusing to come out was weird and distracting. I can't fathom why they did this, and it wasn't talked about in the movie
Because they're going to give The Hulk a character arc that makes him actually care about saving people and being a sort-of hero, because The Hulk can't have standalone movies, so character development can only happen in crossovers.

I'm not saying they're all stupid, but the planet would be better off if large chunks of their populations got nuked. By giving out more resources, the overall population increases and more resources are required. If it was already hard to do before a population explosion, it's going to be even harder afterwards. Actually, mass depopulation to combat a lack of resources would be Malthusian. Communism would be declaring that resource shortages are due to unequal distribution of those resources.
Malthusianism has fuck all to do with communism and is actually based off of the ideas of Thomas Malthus, an (English) Anglican Priest in the 1700s who felt that without proper moral safeguards, society would inevitably grow larger than it could sustain and thus be forced to have large sections of itself die off due to starvation.
While we're being political, magically increasing the resources in the world wouldn't be communist either since magic doesn't exist so no serious marxist has ever claimed that they could fix things by simply wishing the problem away (denials of the existence of the problem or shifting the blame to people they don't like being far more common).
