>hurr it's an Elseworlds so you can't say anything bad about it it's supposed to take liberties and be shit with them
This is the most repeated defense people have towards this comic and it's flimsy as fuck and completely ignores the actual premise behind Elseworlds. Being an Elseworlds doesn't excuse a comic from being garbage and no one is criticizing this comic for being different.
Everyone is so out of character in this comic that they might as well be new people entirely. It stopped being a "what if Joker became the good guy and Batman became the bad guy" story and became "what if the Joker actually wasn't that bad and just committed robberies and vandalism and was the city-loving oppressed 99% slandered by corrupt businessmen and conservative news and who is totes innocent and Batman was a cruel and spiteful jerk for no reason whose father worked with nazis"
There is no point to this being a Batman story except for brand recognition. There are no Batman characters in this story. Only mouthpieces and strawmen for Sean Murphy's diatribes. You could literally write this comic with any character but Joker as the protagonist and there are a lot of Batman characters who probably would be better protagonists for this story than Joker (like, you know, literally every single one of the Rogues for starters)

It's a heaving pile of self-masturbatory fakedeep Tumblr fanfiction that should not get a pass for being shit just because it's an Elseworlds.
It's flimsy and unoriginal excuse for a premise (what if Batman bad and Joker good) could maybe have worked if it was instead about developing Batman's inability to keep his rogues in check and the danger his existence continues to pose to Gotham, but instead it became a grossly hamfisted attempt at political discourse subsisting on DCAU pandering and Jokerwank, with such writing as
>"Don't get me started on the clothes, a real step back for feminism"
written by a self-deluded moron who assumed that his boring, overdone, blatantly obvious "insight" was somehow interesting and revolutionary and worth telling a story about.
Yes, we all fucking know that superheroes and masked vigilantes would be awful in the real world. You're not clever for being the ten thousandth person to write a shitty story about that. Just because police brutality is topical does not make this bland concept more interesting, it just makes it even more of a soulless cash grab trying to score political points.
And it only kept getting worse as, not only did it turn out Joker is still a goddamn criminal with no qualms about brainwashing all the villains (with a method that couldn't possibly work in any way), but then we got shit like Neo-Joker and then moments where it seems like the author just started using the comic as an excuse to self-insert as Joker with Harley as an ideal girlfriend.
It's pretty art bogged down by America-tier writing, hamfisted and ignorant attempts at political drivel and a complete ass-backwards approach to Elseworlds storytelling.
It's the kind of shit I'd expect from Marvel
