There's something about this guy and Aaron Diaz's comics that feel so inorganic to me. I can recognize the art's good, but there's something so ugly about seeing it in comic form. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's just that he can't for the life of him draw something that suggests real motion. The composition for this stuff usually feels pretty shit (especially with Diaz), and I suppose it feels more like you're just looking at a series of pictures than an actual comic.

That's probably the case. Both Diaz and Ishida suffer from a lack of gesture in their comics, which leaves their art looking static and lifeless.
In the world of comics, it's better to make a crappy drawing that looks alive than an beautiful drawing that looks dead. This is why Jack Kirby is remembered as the King of Comics despite his many artistic errors.
