Can we have an Asterix thread?
read 'em here: https://asterixonline.info/comics/index.php?manga=Asterix_Comics
Anyone read the latest one yet, it looks to be some kind of second take on the one that parodied the Tour de France. Not sure if it's gonna be any good

On that note, I know this is more /v/ material but may I suggest you check out XXL2 Mission Las Vegum? There's plenty of vidya banter in there, with my favorite part being the Mario centurions that go wahoo and mamamia when defeated. Gameplay's kind of repetitive but it feels like you've been immersed in Asterix's world much more than the other games.

The rare time (only time?) where Asterix has a fair sword fight and doesn't seem to be that good at it.
No.972807
>>972806
IIRC Asterix rarely draws his sword and gets into even fewer sword fights. Given that his primary combat style involves relying on the strength granted by the magic potion. In The Twelve Tasks of Asterix he points out that if he and Obelix were to go toe to toe with Caesar's personal guard they'd be cut to ribbons, magic potion or not. He's a strong fighter, not necessarily a skilled one.

there was a story that made fun of feminism, for god's sake. It's…not really jewish influenced in any manner, rather traditionalist even. Yes, he's a jew, but you must admit you can't tell from Asterix that it's jewish influenced.
Also, no story tonight, apologies but i gotta fuck off to bed because life at work was gay and had to fix electrical spaghetti in a cramped enviroment, hence im fucking late.
I guess ill do the Mansions of the Gods tomorrow, or maybe my personal favourite, Asterix the legionary.

Check out the GBA version of XXL, if you can nab a copy, since it's fun as fuck and it's in 3D, and the PSP version of XXL 2 is almost the exact same game as on consoles. …Stay way from the DS port of XXL 2, it's fucking awful.

In theory one of the best plans the Romans ever had.
No.973003
>>972987
I think the one with the D&C guy was the best one, especially since it exploited the Gauls' own weapons and made them question their own trust. It's also one of the few times where Asterix and Obelix almost broke up their friendship, that should tell you how much it was working.
No.973006

You mean the guy who spreads hate amongs everyone? That was the absolute best plan.
Meanwhile in the movies, it was the best plan to attempt shooting the druid off the earth. It's strange that the Romans never tried capturing the druid again.

No.973318

It's a plan only from the movies. In the rather mediocre Asterix in America, the Romans realize they have to get rid of the druid.
But like in earlier Asterix movies, they consider the Gauls to be beyond human. So just to be on the safe side, the Romans capture the druid, sail to the end of the earth (which they think is flat) and use a catapult to throw the druid off the earth.
He lands on America and is saved, but the plot there is kinda weak. As far as I remember, the Roman who planned all this is friggin eaten by Caesar's black panther, not explicitely, but on-screen.
The movie had a hot indian girl though. If more people had seen it, they'd have stopped complaining about the sexualization of Pocahontas…

Oh yeah I remember this. What an unremarkable movie, yet I still fondly remember the very first scene with the dubbed Romans trying to make increasingly dumber phalanxes. And yeah that scene was weird as fuck.
What's with animated Asterix movies sucking so much? The only good one is the 12 tales of Asterix and even then it was explicitly made for television, whereas all the others are just remixed versions of older books.

I had fond memories of the one where Getafix gets bumped by a menhir on the head and turns crazy.
I watched it again a few months ago in French and it really held up, be it because of its animation (especially the fucking scene where they try the potions the now crazy druid cooks up on the Roman spy) or its voice acting, which is pretty far from the shitshow we have nowadays.
A few things had really stuck to me, like the aforementionned potion tasting scene, the flying spy, the sometimes surreal music, or any scene involving food.

Bullshit. The movie where they are in Britain is also great. I like the one where the druid gets insane, too, but I'm alone with this.
Also, the one where they try to save a couple in Rome is memorable because it's the darkest one where Asterix gets closest to dying by drowning. I found that scene intense as a kid.

The guys are violent, women hating assholes who keep pulling switch-knifes on each other the whole time. They threaten to stab several Romans. One guy keeps ordering his wife around and threatens her because she replies to a Roman at the door. They look always grumpy because not doing it is against their honor or some shit.
The only funny thing was that a cheese explodes a ship once the pirates light a candle. But people threatening to stab Romans with switch-knifes? That's not funny. And nowadays it's even unfunnier.

I just looked it up because I was pretty sure that the movie was based on a book. Turns out I was right, but in the book, they get lost during a storm. Nothing about the Romans shooting the druid off of the earth.

It's the kraut that periodically spergs about America and Drumpf. Germans no longer have to worry about first world problems since Merkel culturally enriched them into a third world country, so he vents his anger on a cartoon discussion board.
