I'd argue they should use him for the 2nd or 3rd film, nothing more. Any cancerous build up like Thanos in the MCU would kill any interest.
They should have big, unrelated threats constantly, as they have the powerful villains to do so.
For example, you could have a JL film where:
>anti-monitor tries to reset universe, thus using the green lanterns properly, maybe COIE it and kill barry
>reverse-flash takes ahold of the world as barry isn't keeping the speed force in check and has a giant rogues fight for the league while superman has to beat someone faster than him, ending with barry dragged out of speed force in some shitty rebirth moment (i'm thinking attacks reverse-flash just before he kills superman and throws him into speed-force in his place)
>inJUSTice league with each characters opposite eg sinestro, doomsday (again), reverse-flash/zoom etc
Anyways, live-action films in a shared universe are a mistake. They can't produce them quickly and actors age and leave roles constantly, or get fed up and give shit performances under contract.
Stand alones films are the way to go, so those rumours for stand alones had better be true.
