Not just Gumball. Everyone sort of devolved into an asshole, including Gumball. Its like the writers went from wholesome show with nice characters to "everybody's an asshole" with Gumball being portrayed as downright psychotic or a violent sociopath.

This. But you're being too optimistic if you think this is gonna be a good finale. They're probably going to use that shitty void subplot again and have the cyclops kid nuke the world while going with a nihilistic route as they discover their world is fake. The world begins to end and they're hugging as everything breaks, only for the scene to cutaway to everything magically being fixed and them celebrating, while Gumball says "We survived! Everything's gonna be OKA-" scene cuts off as the episode ends with a lot of static, implying the void got them anyway. Much like they do with every season finale. Its always some malicious shit rather than funny shit.

If you're interested in knowing, you remember that blue cyclops kid who was always in the background? Well he got sucked into the void where forgotten characters go. Eventually he manages to escape and becomes a TV static mutant who wants revenge on Gumball for being the star. Cyclops boy eventually finds out the world is fake so he comes up with plans to destroy Gumball and take his place as MC or just be all around evil.

Its relevant when the show tries to enforce an overarching plot you retard. When the show started taking itself more seriously with less episodic shit while going into nihilistic territory it naturally lost its charm.
