I am far from versed in the comics, I have seen bits and pieces, then I see stuff like this, Iron Man's origin is mostly the same across various incarnations, I can't remember how the 50's cartoon origin was, I knew about the general concept of Tony's heart and the reactor before the movie.
Then I saw Invincible Iron Man and there was this plot point about Tony developing the suits in secret for a while before his kidnapping.
So, was Tony developing those armors in other incarnations or they were supposed to come after his escape from the Chinese/Russians/Taliban/10Rings?
Also, do you like any particular version of any hero, what do you think about some reboots or retcons in general?

Another popular one which doesn't change too much was Spiderman, originally a radioactive spider gave him his powers, the only difference in a few modern versions change the radioactive bit to a "genetically modified" one, the middle point was the 90's cartoon where the spider wasn't intentionally modified if I recall correctly and the whole "neogenic recombinator" was a plot point for a very long time during the series.
Something I heard about Raimi's Spiderman concerning the web shooters however was kind of stupid, they said they changed them to organic because "it wouldn't be realistic if this nerd could come up with the formula of a super strong adhesive fiber if no one in real life has come close to it" or something along those lines, in the 90's cartoon Peter gave a somewhat contrived reason saying that apparently his spider genes gave him the basic idea of how to create it.

Tony used to develop the first suit during Vietnam in the comics, they retold it a few times up through the 80s. Basically matches the movie other than the location since the director used to read those comics.
Ultimate Iron Man has a truly retarded Orson Scott Card origin where hs parents experimented on him and he has brain tissue all through his body or some shit.
Recent comics retconned his parents working with aliens and some truly dumb garbage but didn’t touch how he got the suit.
