A lot of people like to talk about the later-2000's as the worst period in Cartoon History, but none of you seem to have seen the abysmal nature of the 70's. Cheesy animated spin-offs of 60's TV Shows, Bands having a cartoon with no actual input to it, and odd attempts at early Cartoon Sitcoms, such as a cartoon rip off of both Jackie Gleason and Archie Bunker.

When Disney died in '66, he left a creative hole that nobody was able to fill. So began a roughly 20-year period where Disney produced a series of cheaply-animated films which are almost never acknowledged either by fans or the company itself.

The worst time for cartoons was 1977 until 1985. Hanna-Barbara were single-handedly trying to kill animation, shoveling out shit like Yogi's Galaxy Goof-Ups, Yogi's Space Race, Space Ace and the Space Mutts, The Robonic Stooges, CB Bears, Wonder Wheels, Trollkins, the Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour, and, my personal hell, The Biskitts.
You can hate all you want the new "soy" cartoons, but they will never be as bad as that mountain of cynical product.

Shows like super friends which had extreme censorship about violence and later had to have some kind of moral in every episode always had a political slant to it. Especially anything made by filmation that wanted to incorporate some left wing leaning concept like equality between the races and women can do what men can do. I'll give you that it was nowhere near as blatant back then like it is today, but it was always there to some degree.

That's part of the issue. CalArts-era is widely popular, so retards aren't properly criticizing them.

When you say CalArts is "the worst ever", you're just advertising that you haven't watched that many cartoons.

>implying those 70s - 80s garbage cartoons weren't also widely popular
You know nothing. People back then just as willingly ate up heavily marketed advertised garbage as they do now, to the point all some people knew were jingles and brands. They were designed to be catchy and marketable with wide-spread appeal. That's what they meant when they said TV rots your brain back then. Worse off, some of those relics are still paraded around today.
For example, He-Man, Thundercats, My Little Pony, Mighty Max, G.I. Joe, Scooby-Doo, SuperFriends, Fat Albert, Transformers, Archie, or anything made by Hanna-Barbera for the most part.
And almost every week or month, it seemed like a new show was being made or premiering, it was an avalanche of unrestricted marketed product around this time. The ones I listed are popular for a reason, because they were ironically the least garbage out of the garbage coming out. Take some time just to look at the sheer amount of shows produced during that time and imagine there's also some that aren't listed down because no one can honestly care that much if they wanted to.
Things might seem as bad but they aren't. We also live in the time of the internet were creators can freely share their works online instead of needing to be backed by a major company or producer. This sort of homogenized art is something widespread media has always done too, it's nothing new.

An episode of The Barkleys, a cartoon that ripped-off Archie Bunker. When Hannah Barbara was bought by Turner, they did not renew the copyright on this seemingly because they did not know it was in their property.

>help! it's the hair bear bunch
I didn't have cable at home as a kid, but when I stayed with my grandparents(which was often due to a single mother), I watched a lot of old reruns of that on Cartoon Network as a kid. I can't for the life of me tell you anything about that show, from what it's about, the character's names, common themes, or frankly anything. The only thing that springs to mind is that that one bear had an afro. If not for that, I wouldn't even be able to tell you what the fuck that show was from the screenshot. All memories of that are this giant black void, aside from the fact that I'm fairly certain I've seen the entire series16 episodes twice over.
In fact, I couldn't tell you what any of those cartoons are aside from Hong Kong Phooey, and that's really only because of Scatman Crothers' performance. Hanna-Barbera was absolute garbage, and I'm surprised they haven't been remembered with contempt and disdain more.

Those cartoons are the definition of filler, they were made as cheaply as possible to be as forgettable as possible. Something to keep the kid's attention for a while. It's literally the entertainment equivalent of a cheap snack you shove into your moth and once you swallow it you forget that you even had a bite. A modern cartoon like Steven Universe may be subversive Jewish propaganda to promote faggotry to children, but at least it stands for something.
I would really love to be a fly on the wall while these cartoons were being made. I mean, there had to be some effort put into animating and voicing them.

Clutch Cargo is a classic of animation, despite hardly being animated. It was popular in the 1950's, and has been lampooned repeatedly. The animation studio had literally no money so they developed a method of filming the voice actors saying the lines, and putting that film footage over still images. The thing about Clutch Cargo is that despite the low-quality animation, the writing more than made up for it.
