So how many of you anons have a slabbed comic?

 No.1024281

Nah, I like to read them.

(Though apparently they can be removed and then sent back for "re-grading" at a discount).

I have a few golden and silver age comics that would sell for more than a used car. I bought them when my local comic shop sold old comics by weight. They are in the same bins as my other childhood comics and will probably fall apart before me.

Fuck collectors. If they really cared about comic books they would open libraries and spread digital copies of rare stuff.

Zero reason to put this much value into something like a fucking comic book.

 No.1024296

I don't have any slabbed yet but I mostly have collect mid silver age and bronze age stuff to read. Currently I don't have the income to buy really pricey issues over 100 dollars. Maybe in a few years after post secondary education. My goal in 10 years is to own Adventure Comics 247 at a decent grade

The whole idea of collector's value is what nearly killed the comics industry in the first place.

Desirability is what created collector's value. The desirability of, say, Action Comics #1 among a great deal of fans who wanted to see where it all started, or X-Men 129, the start of the Dark Phoenix saga.

Desirability led to status, and status led to Marvel releasing 2 or 3 #1s for a single title in a year to deal with sales loss

What really kills comics is the exploitation of that desirability

That's bullshit given reprints and electronic versions. Collector value is entirely about having something other's don't have. And the people who collect don't seem too concerned about whether it is artificial scarcity or not.

I have a 9.2 graded Todd McFarlane's run with Spiderman #1 signed by Todd and Stan Lee. Unfortunately, it's the silver edition and not the gold or platinum.
