Who thought it was a good idea to split stories over several different comic books? Who first started this? Having to read 5 different comics to get the full Maximum Carnage story pretty much killed my desire to keep reading Amazing Spider-man

The guy that probably got a promotion.

Nobody 'had an idea' to do this. It was a natural extension of the comics coming out with newspapers.

>instead of Part 3 in The Amazing Spider-man Part 4 in Spectacular Spider-man Part 5 in Spider-man Part 6 in Web of Spider-man etc. etc.

Got it in one. Why sell just one comic with each issue of the story, when you could sell two, or maybe three? Why stop there? Why not have a story split up over every single comic being published at that time.. Hell, now it's not a story, but it's an EVENT.

 No.1011596>>1011598

Considering how many books Spidey and his peers had to themselves per month back in the day, not taking advantage of that would be pretty stupid.

Time, money and pacing. You want people to comeback and read your story, so you spread it out give the comic dome expensive but nice art and you sell it as an event. Doesn't work now as it did back then.

2000AD and The Megazine once split up a two-parter between themselves and the readers freaked out. Wonder why the kids of the 60's didn't do the same?

Oh, yeah, middle-class Boomers. They hadn't grown up and sent all the jobs to China yet, so they could afford all those 15¢ comics
