So what's with the hate for Garfield?
Did it all start with Cuckddox back in the day or what?

I was a big fan in my youth, but the quality was getting worse and worse. Stopped reading/buying the magazine around 2008. Stuff like Garfield having a smartphone and Jon and Liz becoming a couple are really shitty. There are no real jokes there anymore either.
I guess I can understand people who hate on Garfield.

I ended up getting way more into Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes. Garfield, Hagar and Beetle Bailey were the ones my family all loved but I felt were just the same handful of jokes told over and over again.

Some people found the humor too lack luster for them, I agree not my thing but I can't see why they hate it so much, personally there have been some really good Garfield comics.

>Jon and Liz becoming a couple
I hated that they did this. Especially since it was to copy the shitty movies.
▶ No.1004178
It's an easy target. It's mass-produced and heavily sold out, most of the comic strips are underwhelming or even boring (because hundreds are produced every single day by a team of writers).
But, it's completely harmless and there's something wholesome and genuine about it. Plus, there's been some absolutely fantastic garfield related media over the years.
▶ No.1004184>>1004186 >>1004284
For me it's because when I had to get up for school my mother would wake me up by turning on garfield and friends. It made me hate that show so much I got up just to turn it off. It's the same reason I hate the beyblade opening.

Hobbes makes a lot of remarks like that about Susie. I always found their dynamic interesting but also a bit sad because it reminds me of a girl from grade school who everyone made fun of and she tried to make friends with me at her birthday party but I ultimately blew her off even though I had no personal issue with her and she was actually really nice and generous.

Speaking of, I think watching Garfield & Friends or the specials of that area vs the CGI specials + The Garfield Show is a good case study of why Garfield gets the hate that he does nowadays.

It's still better than a fair amount of CURRENT YEAR cartoons, but that isn't saying much. Still very forgettable, unless it picks up in later episodes, I think I watched the first 6-8 or so.
Also, credit where credit's due, the VA they got to do Garfield isn't too shabby.

Theo nly person I know who seems to hate Garfield is this 40 year old drunk grandpa from Brazil that hangs around my IRC.
he never really explains why he hates it, and when he claim he does, he goes into these long rants that are just words filled with nothing. shit like "it's irrelevant" and the humor "relies on commentary with weak punchlines compared to Calvin and Hobbes (whis is also about a guy and his orange cat); kinda hard to remember from his typing style.
