Bendis also made him into a delivery boy for Cage in one issue of the Luke Cage or Defenders.
Cage was knocked out by some poison and only shield had an antidote for it. Instead of turning the plot into 'how to get the antidote,' Blade just brings it in an a brown paper bag. He than says 'Cage owes me one. Again,' or something along these lines, and fucks off. That amounts to two or three pages, where Blade just barely being there.

That's more or less what Blade is all about. If Punisher can be written well dealing only with regular criminals, there should be no issue with Blade dealing with vampires. The fact that this character hasn't been ruined by their staff is absolute proof that they don't give a shit about the history of the universe and just want to remake it on the fly. And as I said before, I'm super happy that they don't know about characters like her. Shark Girl was written to be an actual character, and had some great stuff in the small amount of time she was around. She's scared of her own mutation because she can get overtaken by bloodlust. She gets into a situation where she actually has to seduce Saruon, which she talks about later that it felt weird being sexually desired for the first time since she got gills but that she liked it. Though I guarantee if the writing staff over at Marvel knew anything about her character aside from 'is a shark' she'd be teaming up with America and Squirrel Girl every other week.
So, just count yourself lucky if a fun character like Blade merely gets minimally ruined in current marvel. Keep your head down and enjoy the bits of Blade media you can enjoy. Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate up hill

After Snipes read the movie's script and comics he fell in love with Blade, ditched the Black Panther film that was stuck in development hell, and he even put his own money into the film and became a producer. It was also in part thanks to Snipes that movie incorporated martial arts. Snipes trained martial arts since childhood, and wanted Blade to emulate Asian martial arts films instead of typical, bland Hollywood action. That girl towards the end for example, was a martial arts prodigy and it was Snipes idea to put her in the film.

David Goyer wasn't just the 'series writer' he was also producer. Blade: Trinity is exactly the film he wanted to make.
Wesley Snipes didn't like the original choice of director, so Goyer fired him and took over the production. Goyer directed one small, independent film before taking over Blade: Trinity, a multimillion dollar production. He then proceeded to go on a massive power trip and ignored all of Wesley Snipes' suggestions, even though Wesley was also producer. Wesley could see this was going to be a piece of shit from a mile way so he threw his hands up, said 'fuck it' and proceeded to spend most of the shoot in his trailer smoking weed.
In the aftermath Goyer was invited by Nolan to write Batman Begins whereas Wesley Snipes was put in movie jail and relegated to doing direct-to-DVD films before he got sent to actual jail for tax evasion. The worst part is that Wesley was completely right.

There's a good reason for that too. Vampires are characters, zombies are not. When you write either you need a degree of the human perspective and conflicts, with zombies at the front what you have is nothing more than human conflicts in the face of a natural force, with vampires you have to deal with the fact that the vampires need character too, they need their own conflict and motivation, thus making not only basic human conflict a writing concern but also making the antagonistic force need to be well written.
