If I could eat one food and only one food forever and it tastes amazing every time, there is literally no reason for me to try anything else. And to what end? Variation is not valuable if you genuinely enjoy doing the same thing over and over again.
I believe you when you say that. But for all I know, americans could make more delicious Schnitzel than germans. Authenticism is no guarantee of quality, was my point.

942e4b No.2128933
>>2128929
Of course you can't. We aren't omniscient, after all.
But why would that be any standard I should care about?
If I don't get bored of doing something, there's only two scenarios if I try to do something else.
I don't enjoy it, or I enjoy it all the same. It's a lose-neutral scenario, arguably lose-lose if you consider the effort.
Needless to say, a state of mind in which a linkin park song does not get boring after even *one* listen is borderline autism. It doesn't matter if you autistically enjoy song A over autistically enjoying song B. It's pointless to even try to find song B.
If it's not about quality, then authenticism becomes even more of a superfluity.
If Taco Bell's food tasted better than their mexican equivalents (and for all I know, it could), the authentic food is worse, and why would anyone care about it if it tastes worse?
Clearly people use authenticism as some kind of measuring stick. Hence why it's a meme.

b81408 No.2128935

Differences of thought then. I like the effort of trying and finding new things.
Also, authenticity for me is more about how food is made (ingredients, style of cooking, etc.)
A Taco Bell taco might be good, but it is in no way made the same or with the same ingredients as an "authentic" Mexican taco. A lot of times authenticity gets mixed up with "not mass produced". In that case, yes it is a meme. But I don't use it as such.

What it boils down to is that I believe the possibility of not enjoying something is worse, given equal terms, the absence of a possibility of not enjoying something.
In a sense, this is an analytical statement, provided that the notions of "worse" and "not enjoying" are related conceptually.
It's every bit as true by definition as saying that 2+2 equals 4.
We're all looking for more, but similar things because we get bored. I'm simply saying that if you were to eliminate boredom, like with linkin park guy, we wouldn't feel compelled to. The only way one could still feel compelled despite not being bored is the baseless assumption that things you don't know have a higher likelihood of bringing satisfaction than the things you already knowto bring you satisfaction.
But on what planet?

And therein lies the disagreement, the possibility of not enjoying something is a risk you take in order to find better things. It's proven itself time and time again for me in experience. For example, I used to hate guacamole and would never eat it, but then later in life I tried it and it's now one of my favorite foods. I knew I enjoyed plenty of other things, but I would have been deprived of one of my favorite foods if I hadn't taken the risk

The nature of the statement is logical, not people's subjective experiences. To imply the opposite would lead to a contradiction. It's analytical in that sense.
I think you're half agreeing with me. What you're hung up on, I think, is the quest to find personal satisfaction is a function of boredom - a consequence, it is not an end in itself.
You may think it is, but what basis do we have for believing it? The overwhelming majority of people that are trying out new things at rapid rates are either bored with their current state of affairs or trying to recreate the good feeling you get when you discover something new. Ultimately, that is a short-lived feeling of relief, soon followed by more boredom. People that keep searching but never find their fulfillment go insane. Why would that be the case if the quest is an end in itself?

Well what is the point of the advice then? If you believe I already know the justification for it on account of being smart, why is the advice needed?
It seems like what you're saying is I could benefit from being more open on account of being more open, after having uncritically and without understanding the reason for it, decided that being open is better because...reasons.
That is like saying I should unlock my front door, because if I don't, you can never get inside my house to tell me the exact reason why I should unlock my front door.

Because being smart doesn't mean you can accept ideas that are contrary to what you believe? I just think that you have the capacity to understand, but you don't want to.
Being open isn't better for some undefined non-reason, it's a good idea because closing yourself off completely leads to stagnation. Sure, you can stay locked inside all day every day, but is that really the best you can do?

I don't have the capacity to understand meaningless statements, for one.
Since you did not justify your advice to any degree, to expect me to take it on faith is the polar opposite of expecting me to understand it on account of being smart.
>contrary to what you believe
If you think that I'm incapable of accepting ideas that don't fit my worldview, and if you also think I'm fit to understand the reasons behind the ideas but don't accept them out of sheer bias, then your efforts are wasted. You'd be trying to convince me of something I can never be convinced of.
This is but one of the side-effects of not choosing your words wisely.
I can't think of an example in which thoroughly investigating the premises and reasons behind every statement would give me a disadvantage. Case in point, this conversation.
Contrariwise, I can conceive of many scenarios in which neglecting to do so would leave me in a quandary or harm me.
>it's a good idea because closing yourself off completely leads to stagnation
Did the past 2 hours not teach you anything about my views?
I'm perfectly aware of this, because we have a motor that drives us in the opposite direction.
It's my belief that there is nothing inherently wrong with stagnation. Nor is progress inherently good. But with stagnation comes boredom, and with boredom comes progress. It is necessitated by the human condition. In a sense, we are forced to be open. We simply have no choice.
The point I'm trying to drive home is that if this was something we could change, I would, because it takes boredom out of the equation. Did I ever tell you how I am constantly deleting and updating my music library because songs I used to fall in love with get skipped like dogshit on the sidewalk, and did I ever tell you how frustrating it is to be reminded that the song I'm listening to and enjoying right now will mean absolutely nothing to me given some time, forcing me to find some new music to enjoy and toss like some one night stand? I'd go so far as to call it disrespectful to the artists.
Everybody complains about boredom all the time. I probably do it the most. But when I suggest that things would be better if boredom became impossible, suddenly I need to be more open.
How the fuck does that make any sense?
>you can stay locked inside all day every day, but is that really the best you can do

Still wanna find out if a double handed handjob from him would be like. He is pretty trappy too so.
Plus just tell him it's a cool explosion so it's "art". :^)
You're awesome though person.

The nature of the advice was such that if I don't accept it uncritically, i cut myself off from potential benefits.
I don't see any justification for this advice, nor prompt, or rhyme, or reason.
It's the kind of advice you find in fortune cookies.

That isn't advice it's an ultimatum? "You do this or this happens" is not advice. So ???
What is even the context of all this because I feel someone here is missing something aside from just me.

Then let me leave you with this piece of advice
The way you think about things is flawed, because I said so, and if you don't change your point of view you will never come to see things from my point of view, which is of course the better one
since i've laid out the benefits in extreme detail and the downsides are clear for the eyes to see, it is time to make your choice
only a person with a baseless commitment to their beliefs WOULDN'T change their mind, and it would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they needed this piece of advice with great urgency.
Make the smart choice.

It's only as lewd as literally any other harem anime. But it at last has a decent world it builds and a somewhat interesting story.

I'm even more lost now.
So someone gave advice/an ultimatum over Linkin Park and schnitzel , then this guy either mistook advice for an ultimatum or the other way around?
What the hek.

Neither is better than the other, just different. Though it seems that you don't care to try to understand where I'm coming from and would rather be objectively right
I'm proud of you for at least coming this far bud

I'm guessing that randomly psychoanalyzing people works most of the time when they don't think so hard about it.
You're correct that there is no privileged frame of reference.
And really? Does it seem that way?
Because it seems to me that I asked for clarification multiple times, and after more vague answers, finally I got .. a nonspecific example in which it isn't clear how exactly i'm at a disadvantage. Is that how people do that are not trying to understand?
The bottom line is that your advice didn't hold up to scrutiny because zero thought went into making it. It came off as rote memorized before, and still does.
I've been trying to understand, it's just that there was nothing to understand. And when your time came to understand my point of view, you cowered away. Ergo, you are intellectually dishonest.
