and the guy charged me 3.99 + tax and gave me 10pc nuggets + small fries
I didn't realize until later, but basically he punched in the wrong coupon code and I got shafted out of the good deal, where the chicken fries are more expensive, and I got the fucking nuggets instead and was charged .50 more because of the wrong coupon.

To a point. The Federal Law is paramount. It leaves a lot open to what the States can legislate however they deem fit. But everything must still be legal in the eyes of the Feds. Freedom of Speech is the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights, so it isn't something that the States can just trample. There are ways that things could go south, and it would largely depend on court cases. If California, for example, created a law that limited the First Amendment, there would be a lawsuit against that law. It would be kicked up, likely, to the Supreme Court where a ruling would come about. Either the new law would be struck down, or it would be upheld as being constitutional. If it is upheld, it would create a legal precedent were more laws of similar make up would be free and clear to be created.
The chances of something like that happening are quite slim though.
