Me and a friend of mine hatewatched the fuck out of them. They were great for making fun of and laughing at the real bad parts, but the worst thing about Overlord is how fucking *boring* the cocksucker is half the time.

It's the anti-thesis to Hero Academia. Hero Academia is wish fulfillment for every person who wanted to grow up to be a hero. Overlord is wish fulfillment for being a supervillain. It's not great, because the wish fulfillment of being a evil overlord involves being unstoppable, more knowlegable than everyone else, and completely dominating every situation. It's not well written or all that great from a analytical standpoint because all of that makes for shit awful story telling, but it still manages to be fun because it lets you live the dream

I have nothing wrong with the concept, I just loathe the execution. I really dislike how he's the biggest, baddest dude on BOTH SIDES. How him and his cronies are just unstoppable. That's fucking boring. The show would be significantly better if he was his main job; being the bad lich man, and there was a counterpart to him in the form of another overpowered player.

As someone who actually enjoys Overlord, I think the side characters are the thing that actually gives it life. The story often focuses on character who aren't obligated to live to continue the story, meaning you actually feel worried about them, meanwhile you wonder how Momonga's shenanigans are going to effect them. The arc of the swordsman dude through seasons 1 and 2 is, at a conceptual level, one of my favorite character arcs ever and I love it way more than I should because it's not even executed that well.

The muh superior mangos excuse only works when the source material is a solid 8/10 or above. Overshit is overrated and only got the attention because it was among the first isekai stories to be published, scanlated and animufied. Maou no Hajimekata is superior by a wide margin because it doesn't pretend to be anything other than a gimmicky power/rape fantasy for neckbeards, which it is excels at. If you're going to be shallow and pander to the lowest common denominator, might as well do it unironically.

If anything it's the antithesis of One Punch Man since the main character will always win and the struggles and machinations of the side characters are where the series really shines. And you could argue that traces back to the "just you wait until Goku gets here" moments from DBZ.
