What video player do you use to watch anime? Any codecs or extra software?

I'm still using MPC-HC and don't plan to change it but I'm looking to reinstall codecs since thumbnail generation breaks dllhost with certain webms I've downloaded. I recall using SVP (frame interpolation; fake 60 fps) for a short while a long time ago, it was interesting but artifacts and mistakes stick out if you pay attention or misconfigure it.

Remember to ignore, shame and report anyone who recommends certain filthy communist codecs. Maybe as well as those that recommend VLC for any reason other than being lazy and complacent.

VLC.

It does what it's supposed to do with almost any codec.

What's the point of going fanzier?

MPC-HC + Kawaii Codec Pack.

I have never used anything else so I'm not even sure what the differences are between all the codec pack but just like you I'm not really planning on downloading any commie bullshit, fuck all leftists trying to ruin my anime.

By the way, I downloaded KCP from Haruhichan but the site seems to be taken offline, anyone what the story behind that is?

If you're being serious, it's a shitty viewing experience and you should kill yourself.

It's blurry and muddies colors.

Here's my mpv config:

hwdec=no
video-sync=display-resample

screenshot-format=png
screenshot-high-bit-depth=yes
screenshot-png-compression=9

profile=gpu-hq
vo=gpu
interpolation=yes
tscale=oversample
opengl-swapinterval=1
fbo-format=rgb32f
#deband=no

Lately I've avoided hardware decoding because it shits itself when upscaling to 1440p for whatever reason. #deband=no is uncommited whenever my crappy CPU can't handle a particular video file.

Just tried MPC and MPV for the first time and you're actually right.

How did I not know of this before?

Because you were too lazy to do proper research like all people who watch anime in the shittiest quality possible. Same goes for streamfags, if they knew how to torrent and knew the difference in quality they wouldn't stream but most of them just google the name of the anime they want to watch and add "free watch" or something and click the first result they get.

I'm watching some shows and notice grain. I can't tell if it's the files themselves or the program/codecs.

I switched recently from MPC-HC + KCP to MPV and I'm glad I did. It's a much nicer interface, is lighter on resources and I think a slightly better picture quality (though I have absolutely nothing to substantiate this).

I use SMPlayer with mpv. I also have a SBC running LibreELEC hooked up to my TV that I watch completed series on.

>shame and report anyone who recommends certain filthy communist codecs

What should I recommend? I know the CCCP is terribly outdated, and the last time I watched anime on Windows without mpv (4-5 years ago), I used CCCP since everyone on /a/ recommended it to newfags back around 2010. I feel like a grandpa and simply don't know what to tell Windowsfags anymore. I just give people a copy of mpv if they ask me for a video now that I know they won't be able to play.

 No.9130

I can't into MPV I tried but I have tardive diskinesia and my hands are way too shakey for command line. Haruhi is dead and I can't find a trusted source for the last version of KCP.

Help a brainlet out.

I use MPV on windows. It's great.

 No.9160

I occasionally hook up my laptop to a small tv on my desk to dual monitor. I noticed it has better colors when moving my player between them. The thing is that I was marathoning a number of episodes on my desk and by the time I was finished my ass was hurting bad. I usually move back and forth from my desk and bed so it's never been a problem.

You can take screenshots and compare.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my post, I meant that before switching to mpv on Windows, I used CCCP. Now that I'm no longer on Windows and even when I was I had stopped using codec packs, I don't know what codec packs to recommend if someone asks.

There's always easier distros, it's not like you have to go full autism like in the Arch memes. Unless you want to, I guess. It's not as bad as people make it sound either, but there's still a lot of free software that's as shitty as or shittier than Windows software, so it really depends on what your standards are. There's features that I wouldn't give up to go back to Windows, but ymmv. Polite sage for off-topic.

Im running that shit for a while, so far everything just works, but some vidya is a pain to run.

 No.9251

>>9217

I'm on Cinnamon Mint right now. I've been considering switching for half a year. Mint has plenty of small issues that really add up, even though their DE shows promise. For instance, Cinnamon crashes on me about as often as Windows XP's explorer used to, and their renaming of certain packages pisses me off. Ironically, when I tried Clover OS in a VM, it made it really easy to test a shitload of different desktop environments without breaking anything, which didn't work right for me in Mint 18. I also found that KDE has improved. I haven't decided if it's still too bloated for me yet, I might give it a try.
