4 episodes as of today, airing right now. Who knows how it ends, but so far it's been light and fluffy. Very little shoujo cliches and trappings, no forced Drama™, and it's not dragging out or teasing their relationship.
Characterization has been surprisingly on point. The dude is exactly how you'd expect a man that age to be like, and the girl is pure and immature about her emotions. They make a great pair to follow. Even the side cast has been given enough time thus far to shine in their own right.
It's got huge production values, as expected of Wit Studio, and manages to convey a pretty nice tone with its constant cloud backdrops and constant raining. It's good shit.

Pretty good episode, though I guess I spoke too soon when I said it had very little shoujo-tier drama. Playboy-kun needs to get his shit kicked in. I doubt it'll stretch on too long though, or be as unbearably bad as most shoujo drama is. Honestly she just needs to tell manager about it and he can just fire that dumbass faggot for disturbing work relations.

I have no evidence but I smell a bad end on this show.

This is some real nigga shit. There's a pervasive feeling of not being bottom of the barrel escapism/fluff written almost solely as an excuse to pair up the characters and have cute romance. It's obviously still a romance story, but it's the real deal, written by and for adults.
Characters act extremely realistically, with varied personalities and approaches to how they handle their relationships. They are not idealized archetypes with 0 flaws or vices. The raw experience, from pimples, awkward conversations, being a mean bitch to the dude you like and so on is on full display here and I can't get enough of it.
This is something special.

This. This is my AOTS. I love it. The OP always makes me smile like a retard. Tachibana's love is childish and fueled by her loss of her running. Tenshou is an old man who feels his life has already past him by. MISUNDERSTANDINGS are kept to a minimum and real drama arises from the characters naturally. Also Tachibana is beautiful.

At times like this I wish this anime had at least more meemeable moments, just to attract more attention to it. Oh well, this will probably make into a "Top 10 anime you missed" youtube videos a few years from now.
Shameless bump
Now that we've settled each character's goals I want even more of this anime. Manager needs to man up and pick up writing again. Tachibana needs to go back to track and field club, otherwise she will also regret that for the rest of her life. I'm still unsure if their relationship would be feasible, but nips are known for pulling weirder shit, so maybe, who knows.

<Manager doesn't jump into it. Instead tries to salvage a friendly relationship and keep a nice work environment
<Characters have actual conflics they have to deal with. It's predictable that they will help each other in the future, looking forward to it
<Drama comes from mirrored issues. They both have passions that they let go in the past but kind of long for. They both have let a friendship go because of that
The age gap really is the gimmick. But the rest is pretty well built. Nothing stellar, I agree, but I'd say it's a cut above the rest overall.

Ok this is a first for me. The ending of this season is pretty different from where the manga stands.
And by different I mean (actual spoilers ahead) in the manga the current most recent chapter has the manager saying to himself that he might have fallen for Tachibana, while in the anime he didn't say that, and the general tone is that they are not gonna stay together.
In the end it was about them helping each other get back to their dreams of being a writter/runner, that much anyone could guess. The season ends with them both decided to pursue their respective objetives, something the manga hasn't properly done for tachibana yet, but it's heavily implied anyway. An anime being ahead of it's manga is also a first for me. They them tell each other that they will meet again after reaching their goals
The saddest thing is that it was probably done this way because they don't plan another season. I can see this being left the way it is, as it's own short platonic love story. It could be tied into a second season, but if they were confident about it, it would have ended like the manga currently has, with >>17351
Either way, I higly recommend it, if any anon has left this one to the side during the season to see if it's worth a watch, and if you can take another anon's word for it: Watch it. It's endearing and sad at the same time. Will probably leave you wanting more.

This. Ameagari is my AOTS. I've loved it. It has had some beautiful direction and visuals. The characters are subtle and their interactions nuanced and relatable. It has none of the crap that can make normal shoujo or relationship dramas so painful to watch. Would recommend all anons check it out.
Also,
Tachibana is beautiful.
No.19738
Pretty excellent stuff, but I thought it dragged a bit in the later half. There's something to be said about a slow burn, but in the end, this is a shoujo romance show. I expected genuine romance somewhere down the line and it just never showed up at all. The entire second half felt like the show had subtly switched gears, quietly sweeping previous plotpoints and themes under the rug to establish new ones. This was most evident with the ikemen blackmail subplot that abruptly got snipped in the bud, increased focus on Tachibana and her friends relationship in favor of other things, but most importantly also evidenced in Tachibana and Tenchou's relationship itself, which was advancing steadily to a point, only to then walk itself back till the end.
Overall, I think the writing simply lost focus. Perhaps this was at the point wherein the writers realized they needed to seem together a fitting anime ending with where the manga was leading, but hadn't accounted for how slow-paced it was leading to changing tone. Or something, I don't know. I haven't read the manga yet.
Anyways, this was pretty good. Beautiful visuals, real nigga romance and handling of relationships, and little to no drama. Just lost its way somewhere down the line and couldn't beat out some of the other strong contenders this season.

>Overall, I think the writing simply lost focus.
I think that's a side effect of them wanting to leave the anime with an open ending while continuing the manga. As it stands right now the manga seems pretty standard, story is going on and there are a few side plots that the anime didn't touch on
Blonde guy has a step sister, not blood related *wink wink* and they even had a double date of sorts along tachibana and manager
when Mr dreamy soccer guy talks to Ms delicious brown, and they go on about tachibana for a bit in the anime, in the manga they talk about that AND he confesses to her. Yep. That hasn't gone nowhere yet either.
So looks like there's plenty to see yet. And maybe the anime served as an ad for the mango.
