Because the reason most people liked the show and its concept was because Tomoko's inability to perform in social situations was very relatable. Take that away and Watamote is nothing more than a generic highschool comedy and there are already enough other anime in that genre.

Both Pop Team Epic and Aggretsuko tried to do something that hasn't really been tried in modern anime before and that's why it got popular enough for a second season. People are getting sick of seeing the same shitty tropes and archetypes every fucking season.

The first volume of the manga managed to carry the anti-social-for-life-but-making-a-story-from-it aspect well. The chapters tended to highlight a different self-defeating personality quirk. That didn't last, unfortunately.

Also, the fact that Tomoko wanted to be popular and constantly tried to copy normalfag behaviour was what made it hard for me myself to relate to her. I would have preferred if she actually went out of her way to avoid social situations seeing as that is what people with social anxiety are actually like. So yeah, I couldn't stand a second season where she actually gets what she wants and doubles down on that behaviour.

Yeah, Tomoko is a great character, but the animu didn't really capture her. Every episode was just her having another stupid idea about what to do for fun, or how to become popular and fucking it up spectacularly. The mango featured a lot more comfy depressing scenes where everything was calm.

In the anime she appears like a crazy person, not like a sad lonely and relateable future NEET.

Watamote sucks now. Last chapter was the first good one after like forty of them spent the time building up Tomoko's harem.

Pop Team Epic anime was pretty enjoyable. I prefer it over the original manga.
