This technically counts as otaku culture, doesn't it? Might be fun to learn together about things like Shintoism/whatever japanese deities are worthy of worship and what hentai there is of them, while attempting to arrange for autistic but respectful visits to haunted japanese locations and/or possessed dolls/artifacts/etc. for the sake of communication with monster girls or at least funposting about the visit afterwards.

Ever watched any incarnation of Gegege no Kitaro?

There's quite many a manga and anime that has Japanese occultism as a premise.

The Book of Five Rings is good. Look that up.

Mononoke is one of the most beautiful occult anime I've ever saw. Hoozuki no Reitsu is actually a fun watch and I enjoyed the manga. There's also a manga called about the Slit Mouthed Woman, a yokai from Japanese myth.

 No.43099

>>43096

Slit mouth woman only has two chapters.

There's also Zekkyou Gakkyuu which is another occultic manga.

I wish something like that could have gotten a second season. I loved the art and music.

I only watched the first season of this but for a series about hell, it was pretty comfy.

>"A ghost of an old lady that is said to appear around Mt. Rokko who runs on all fours at blazing speeds. If you look at her back when she passes by you, you can see a piece of paper with the word "Turbo" posted on her. She is not a dangerous ghost but simply one that runs around. Other similar ghosts include the "Dash Hag" of the Shuto Expressway and the "100 km/h Granny" of Hokkaido"

I remember not being able to find any further info on this yokai outside of SMT descriptions, even though it's supposedly one of the demons based on other modern yokai like Red Cape and so forth. Ghosts can change what they look like to an extent, so how do we convince her to take the form of a lolibaba instead and what further info on her is there?

 No.43114

>>43112

Oh, and there's also this description:

>Modern Japanese ghost. If you are speeding on the highway at extremely high speeds, Turbo-Granny will knock on your window. If you see her, you'll have a car accident.

Shibito no Koe is a tale of an occult club kid with a ghost waifu in an urban legend of the week format. The author clearly is inspired by Junji Ito in her storytelling, with nothing being explained as usual. The Yokai Hunter series on the other hand explores Japanese folk tales and myths which all turn out to be real stories about elder gods etc in a very Lovecraftian way.

 No.43140

>>43126

Plenty of cultures across the world have them, so with there even being tattered futon yokai I figured Japan would have to have some examples here and there. Though compared to the west, I'm not sure if they'd have them on display someplace as an attraction.

From kikepedia.

>His purported mission was to take others' sins upon himself, and he claimed he could transfer spiritual power to his followers.[22] He saw dark conspiracies everywhere, promulgated by the Jews, the Freemasons, the Dutch, the British Royal Family, and rival Japanese religions.[23][24]

>Happy Science is a controversial religious organization, and has been labeled a cult by the Japanese public. The group was founded in 1986 by Ryuho Okawa. Okawa claims to be the incarnation of a supreme spiritual being called El Cantare, and can channel the spirits of Buddha, Confucius, Jesus Christ, and the Prophet Muhammad.

Also, the actress from that article was going to be live-action Touka Kirishima, so this makes her decision to quit and join Happy Science better at least, because only ultrasoyboys with the worst possible taste in tsunderes like her to begin with.

The biggest concern is that the spirit was actually able to burn through so much salt. Salt tends to ward off evil spirits by burning up their evil through it or something similar, but isn't a full guarantee that they'll stay away. If an urban rumor yokai is powerful enough to burn through all that salt, that has some pretty heavy implications to it.

Salt is essentially an evil spirit repellant across many cultures worldwide. Given it shows up even in flip folklore too, garlic might be a universal repellant too in that regard.
