It wasn't so bad. Television was generally more entertaining back then. Videogames were fun, DLC and micro transactions didn't exist yet. The internet wasn't full of normalfags and social media wasn't a thing, the old internet was the wild west. Pirating anime usually means importing, modifying and making copies of VHS/DVDs with fan translations. Anime was still mostly a niche in the West. I can't say I don't miss those days.
