Let's talk about one of the biggest disappointments of the 21st century
No.40828
Haribel and Yoruichi make me hard. However, the series is shit. The premise had promise, but then threw it out the window to imitate the other popular battle shonen in the 3rd arc onwards. A simple story of a guy battling ghost was ruined by the addition of a bunch of nonsense.
No.40830

I think it was mainly jump who caused this to happen. Though kubo does have a lot of blame the soul society arc while fun ruined the series because it basically put kubo into a stressful position and if he didn't conform to his "fans" he'd face massive backlash. Which kubo didn't want to deal with.

Monthly Comic Garden would have made Bleach be an emotional journey about Ichigo trying to help ghosts pass on by helping them instead of slicing them with his sword and Rukia would have been a loli that comforts him.
Monthly Shonen Gangan would have made Bleach be about Ichigo soul reaping, but it would be a more philosophical ride about the balance of life, death and reincarnation.

Yeah jump really didn't understand the type of person kubo was. This made the relationship pretty terrible between them. Shame really because Kubo is a fucking great artist. I think the issue with jump is that they believe all shounen should have a similar premise but that's an entirely different can of worms.

I really enjoyed the Quincy arc because some of the powers are really creative :
→ Lille's Barro space-erasing sniper rifle
→ Askin's ability to manipulate lethal dosage
→ Uryu's damage reflector
→ Jugram's misfortune deflector
→ YHWacH's usury based superpower he's the Jewish god, what did you expect
Ichigo didn't even have time to show his new Bankai. That shit made me laugh.
No.40841
The whole Quincy arc is all about trolling Ichigo :
<Vandenreich conquers Hueco Mundo
>Ichigo goes to Hueco Mundo to help
<Vandenreich immediately moves to attack Soul Society
>Ichigo hurries to help Soul Society
<Vandenreich leaves
>Ichigo goes to the Royal Palace
<Vandenreich starts attacking Soul Society again
>Ichigo goes down to help Soul Society
<Yhwach + Royal Guard invades the Royal Palace
>Ichigo hurries up to the Royal Palace
<Yhwach already ate the Soul King
>Ichigo confronts Yhwach and readies his Bankai
<Yhwach destroys his bankai before he can activate it

The powers were neat but horrifically overpowered. Barro's space-erasing gun was cool but he also had intangibility powers for whatever reason. Uryu's antithesis could be OP but that depends on how fast he could activate it. Jugram's misfortune deflector was just fucking stupid and made him unbeatable against almost any opponent, to the point where I thought that hitting his shield must be his weakness because it'd induced a reverse of his powers' effect, simply because otherwise I couldn't understand why Kubo would even make such a ridiculous power. Askin was borderline OP but was just vulnerable enough to not be as infuriating as the other top quincy, so he gets a pass. Gerard's power was also just fucking stupid and not interesting in the slightest. I do agree with Yhwach's superpower-usury powers being fucking brilliant though, too bad his future manipulation powers were fucking retarded. It might've been acceptable had Aizen showing that he can't use it reliably if his perception of the present is fucked with was right, but then LOL I CAN CHANGE THE FUTURE EVEN AFTER I DIE AND BRING MYSELF BACK.
That said, the Quincy arc actually had tons of potential and started off surprisingly strong and patched up a lot of confusions from earlier on, but MAN Kubo dropped the ball with the pacing, abilities, and characters.

Says a lot that what holds up best are the openings and OSTs (series also being a prime example of a shit series with great music), but neither has any real bearing on the series itself considering they're exclusive to the adaptive works (obviously), rather than the original manga.
>>41861
I thought Soul Society was alright for what it was, but it marked a definite shift in style for the series for the worse, as well as drawing out the confrontation with Aizen far, far longer than ever should have gone on (especially when limited to an 18 page a week, 52 weeks minus holidays and hiatus per year format), plus two more arcs, one just being how Ichigo got his groove back. And, the original arc had a lot of mystique to it as to the nature of the afterlife, and the science of how the spirit worlds worked, where what little bits and pieces got revealed (usually as anecdote, as opposed to directly shown; if memory serves what was actually seen of Soul Society and Hueco Mundo themselves in that arc were minimal) felt valuable, whilst still leaving the bulk up to the reader to fill in, that taking the plot there directly killed to a degree. Of course, some of what was told in the first arc wound up bullshit anyhow, either due to Rukia's biases or having been taught wrong (though it could just as well be changes in Kubo's own world building).

>Why are normalfags so retarded.
Given how frequently they'll make "it's like [X] meets [Y]!" statements for series, probably because nothing can be original. It has to be related to or inspired by some previous work rather than its own idea.
No.41893
>>41891
It's probably a symptom of Hollywood just pumping out sequels and releases of older works instead of innovating a new concept for a new movie simply because it is more profitable. Then since normalfags are into hollywoods type of shit they eat it up and are confused when someone from japan makes a new story. Creativity is a very rare trait in this day and age.

Everything about this just got worse as it went on. It started gold yet by the end it was just something so terrible I can't even begin to describe it. Calling it a turd would be an understatement. Only thing worse than the characters and stories was the lazy and poorly conceived worldbuilding. A drunk /tg/ anon with a scat fetish could do a better job of setting up a more consistent and interesting build of the Bleach world. The fucking cosmology and the mechanics of soul reaper/hollow/quincy/etc power was just migraine-inducing bullshit. The only thing that made it all worse were all the wasted character designs and characters who could've worked so much better under a more competent author. Rukia, Kon, Chad, Urahara and Yoruichi, all such interesting and unique characters wasted and drowned in a sea of retarded captains who hardly ever did anything of note.
In the end, I'm pretty sure that if not for the anime's stinking filler episodes, its time on Adult Swim and the comedic skits at the end of each episode, Bleach's popularity would not have endured past the Soul Society Arc, and those obnoxious captains and the over-glorified Soul Society would not gained so much interest and appeal despite that they were all corrupt and questionable as shit. An entire fucking spirit world filled with near-ageless souls from throughout history with all the time in the world (including the greatest minds) could not have formed a better society somewhere in that vast empty valley that rivaled (if not surpassed) the backwards feudal shit hole that is the Seretei? Fuck it on all grounds honestly.

They never helped another soul again. On the contrary. Rukia used to say that Soul Society was a safe place, but then they get there in its basically a slum planet that looks like the most unimaginative depiction of feudal japan. Countless souls living without any of the modern conveniences or food they once had and with zero chance of ever reuniting with their loved ones while Seretei leaves them to rot and Mayuri slaughters souls on a regular basis without a care in the world while Ichigo and the rest who supposedly care about souls don't seem to give a shit about this corruption. Orihime does not seem to give a shit that her brother's soul was sent to this feudal era nippon world, Ichigo never even thinks about wanting to reunite with his mom while there or in Hueco Mundo (I mean it would be a futile effort, but you have expect the thought to cross his mind at least once), and the most fucked up thing of all was Uryu finding his grandfather's killer (who Mayuri even mutilated for his experiments) only for Uryu to meet him again later on and act like almost nothing happened, only treating Mayuri with mild annoyance and disgusts and later on watches Mayuri finger his daughter/clone to revive her while Uryu blushes. What the fuck is up with these people? WTF is up with Kubo? And don't get me started on that Fullbringer bullshit.

It's the same thing with most shonenshit but especially the longer running ones. Ghostbusters with swords got too popular too quickly and the editors/publishers requested or rather, ordered Kubo to quickly scrape longer story arcs plus whatever fillers he can just so they can stretch Bleach into a multimedia franchise. I'm amazed that the One Piece guy hasn't run out of bullshit to pull out of his ass yet the way Toriyama, Togashiatus, Kubo and countless others have.

I wouldn't say it went downhill at that point, but it was in retrospect the obvious point where things would start going to shit. Kubo didn't want to have to keep putting any actual effort into the writing of the story, and instead created a broad, baseline plot structure with a decent excuse to have as many cool fights as he could make. The Soul Society arc was good, but once you see Bleach as a whole you realize what it meant for the series.
No.58112

They really should have focused on the Grand Fisher as a primary antagonist and Ichigo helping lost ghosts and fight hollows along the way. What really bothered was that Kon's potential as a mod soul going to waste. Instead of using his super hunan abilities as a mod soul in ichigo's body to fight along as an ally he was shoved to the sidelines.
