Have you ever heard of Alejandro Jodorowsky? He's this avant-garde director from Chile who made The Holy Mountain and was supposed to make a film adaption for Dune. He never made the film but they did make a documentary a few years ago about what he was planning on doing with it. For example, Orson Welles was going to play some obese villain (I admit I haven't read Dune, I just like that director). The project sadly failed due to a lack of budget and his concept art was stolen by the kikes in Hollywood and used for major features like Star Wars and Prometheus.
Anyway, seeing as his other films had very surreal visuals and an insane amount of work put into them I could have seen him make an interesting adaption, I recommend you see that documentary.

if you haven't read dune i highly, highly recommend it. here's a pdf. all of the novels in the series after the original novel are meh at best, sometimes shitty, and i'd prolly just skip em (with the debateable exception of the second book). but the first novel is a masterpiece. here's a pdf.
also, movie-wise, the david lynch version of dune wasn't horrible. frank herbert himself said he liked it, and while it left tons of stuff out, and added a certain unnecessary and non-canon technology which you'll see if you read it, it was still worth watching.
