 No.37722

Bug man on motor bike is best Supa Hiro. He can beat up all the kaiju with low quality bandai toys!

Whats your favourite Rider /animu/?

 No.37732

This isn't anime. Take it to /m/.

 No.37734

>>37732

This board is otaku culture, this includes tokesatsu. We had tokesatsu threads before. Are you new?

 No.37735

>>37722

I never watched Kamen rider, where should I watch it and which series should I start?

 No.37737

I think we have/had a toku thread. Maybe lurk there too, OP. But I think it's so old, if you manage to bring something good to this thread and not just 1&done it, then it's not so bad to have a newer thread up.

 No.37739

I've only seen Fourze, the one with all the McDonalds product placement and a clinically retarded main character. I liked it, though. How does that compare to other Kamen Riders?

>>37735

Find a series you like the look of. Everything after Kuuga and Akito has been stand alone so any of them you fancy will do. There's lots of cross over movies which involve multiple riders which will tie into that years plot (Next year's hero appears for a cameo which introduces you to them while last years Hero gets one final send off as a main player and acts as the sidekick). I started with Kabuto and really enjoyed OOO and Drive. All 3 are good stand alones.

>>37739

Fourze is a comedy series in the style of Den-O which was so popular it's train wrecked most serious series from happening since. If you liked Fourze then I would recommend taking a stab at Den-O and maybe Ex-AID if you can look past the goofy designs.

>>37732

I'm not a tripfag so I don't belong on /m/.

I included a screencap of the SD Kamen Rider anime. Maybe this will calm your autism and you can go watch your weekly slice of life animes where your ignorance will be a blessing and not a blight on the rest of us. I hear Boruto and My hero academy is really good this week, it has lots of flashing colours and screaming.

>>37734

You can't even spell TOKUSATSU correctly.

>>37740

Fair enough.

>>37735

You can literally start anywhere you want. But there are certain seasons/series you should avoid. Kiva, Hibiki, Decade, Ghost, Wizard, and Kabuto are pretty low quality for modern Kamen Rider seasons. Also avoid movies. They're almost all bad and almost completely non-canon due to numerous errors. I'd suggest going to the Rider wiki purely for information on the movies if you're that curious.

 No.37761

>>37749

Kabuto has an amazing start but a very bad ending. Decade is far from bad, it;s one of my favourites but suffers from being too short to really do what it intends to.

Kiva is bad. Hibiki is just too strange. Ghost and Wizard I only lasted 1 episode.

 No.37779

>>37761

Kabuto just didn't know what it wanted to be at all.

Decade is horrible in every faucet of execution that just left more questions than it answered in it's run of no story or goals.

 No.37780

>>37779

Decades goal is to show case each rider's concept in an alternative manner while Tsuaka is a dick to people. I find that fun. I'll take it over yet another shitty Japanese comedy that isn't funny.

 No.37786

>>37780

It still had no story to tell with that. Certainly not one that's well written or makes sense.

 No.37793

>>37786

The movie which wraps up the story disagrees with you. It's about the great leader learning not to dick people over for no reason

 No.37816

>>37793

If it takes a movie after 31 episodes of a show to give the show meaning then it's a bad show.

 No.37824

>>37816

Didn't you just bitch how all the movies were non-canon? Decades movie at the time made the story make sense because it's entire point is he doesn't know what world he comes from or why. It was also the first chance to do a true all rider cross over which they since ran into the ground.

The strict 2 episode format is Decades weakest point where some stories need more and some less but it's hard to call decade bad because it uses it's movie properly.

Decade may not be great but it doesn't deserve the reputation it has. Most people don't even watch it and then repeat that it's bad. A series like Kiva is actively bad because every episode is a mess that makes no sense from birth to death. Decade doesn't have that inbuilt problem and while some worlds are weaker than others, at it's core the concept works and does it's job.

 No.37846

>>37824

I said MOST movies are non-canon. That's unrelated to this. If you go an entire series without a point and just drag along only to actually SUDDENLY decide to have a story in a movie, then you didn't make a good series. Simple.

The core concept is fine. I'll give you that. But it gave people the wrong idea by the end of it that it was the end of all alternate realities in Kamen Rider forever. When that simple isn't the case. Not just because Amazons and Build. But because the Ouja and Brave special proves that only an alternate universe/reality/timeline ending movie is canon to the special. Thus canon to the phase 2 universe.

That's what irks me. Decade presents questions, answers little to none, then gives people all these wrong ideas of how things work. That's why it's considered so bad. Besides having NO STORY AT ALL!

 No.37857

>>37846

Decade makes it clear they're not traveling to the real Rider worlds but alternative versions of them corrupted by the Great leaders influence.

The story's entire plot line is that Decade isn't a Rider, he doesn't have a story to tell. It's not until the end where he changes his ways (not just has amnesia) and he becomes a Rider ans gets a story to tell. He goes from a monster to a hero and this makes Decade a Rider in the classic monster turned hero way.

I'm not trying to be 2deep4u but Decade's story is rather abstract intentionally. It's about a wandering rider discovering who he is and how to deal with his past. Decade doesn't even say it's the end of AUs, the ending is that he's going to keep traveling and exploring AUs.

Decade answers most of the questions it presents with it's movie which is where it always intended to answer them. Not all of them, but then this is Kamen Rider. How many plot lines just vanish out of existence at a moments notice half way through them or when an actor gets sick? Almost all Rider series train wreck about where Decade ends.

 No.37890

>>37857

You're right. I think Drive is the next biggest offender of plotlines and plot devices created then dropped immediately for the next one. Then it's ending resulting in just fighting a CGI mass.

equipping other riders could be interesting but it's dangerously close to decade with a much worse cast. Everyone looks like a school boy on stilts, including the women.

Maybe a rider battle where they fight over Rider powers like OOO did with medals could be cool though.

 No.38964

>>38904

Well the story is basically Decade and his introduction in the Build movie is just him kicking the shit out of monsters and past riders. And Overlord Baron for some reason. With the girl of the series finding ZI-O in the past because he's gonna become an all powerful god king tyrant in the future. So yeah. Decade. But with time travel hopefully universal travel instead of just alternate universe travel like Decade.

Supposedly it's all the past Heisei Riders against all their final villains so yes Decade does cameo in that post credits scene.

 No.38975

Just a cameo? FFS I want him to run around being a dick to people some more.

>>38975

Of course it's only a cameo. It's Build's movie and the point of the post credits scene was to see ZI-O in action. Decade's actor himself was busy with Garo stuff all this time.

 No.38978

>>38977

Decade has popped up several times in movies because he's so easy to slot into them.

Didn't he just do one Garo series?

 No.38979

>>38978

I know for sure he was doing a Garo movie. I don't know if it's come out yet though. Still, most Kamen Rider actors don't return even for movie stuff. Heisei Generations and Final were two of the biggest conglomerate of past actors actually showing up till now. Contracts, agencies, and schedules get in the way of this stuff.

 No.39025

>>38979

He isn't in any Garo movies I can see. Looks like the dudes basically done Decade and then Garo but other wise vanished. Wonder why since Riders have been used to launch so many careers.

Whatever happened to the extra movies they did? I remember OOO had an extra movie witht he cast playing different roles and they were planning to do more of it.No one subbed them though.

 No.39247

>>38979

>>39025

I've been interested in Garo since Vanishing Line introduced me to the character. Be cool if Tokusatsu heroes get cool anime adaptations more often.

 No.39252

>>39247

The Garo animes are just their own thing based on the basic idea. They're two different entities. Three if you count the newer live action shows set in another universe.

Kamen Rider did get at least two anime that I know of. One being a spinoff of Den-O with the Imagins goofing around. The other being Kamen Rider SD with chibi forms of Showa Riders. Other than that, they've crossed over for promotions with Shin-chan a few times.

 No.39318

>>39247

I'm half way through vanishing line and it's pretty damn awesome. Tokusatsu does get anime adaptations but they're usually SD shit. When you have 2 production teams running series year round you just don't need animu productions. Trying to do anything anime would only disrupt the pattern you have going.

 No.39346

Is it a good idea to start with the original series?

 No.39372

>>39346

Yes but it's 91 episodes with a bulk being filler episodes. I'd suggest looking up a guide on what episodes are important and which to ignore.

 No.39417

>>39372

NO SKIPPING!

 No.39432

>>39346

Probably not unless you're already into cinema of that era. It's very clunky and not relevant to the modern series which make better jump off points.

There's nothing wrong with the Showa era if you enjoy it but it's not something you can just drop into and run with.

If you want something older but not quite so old try Black, it's a solid series and sits between old and modern.

 No.39474

>A series like Kiva is actively bad because every episode is a mess that makes no sense from birth to death

I started Kiva a few days ago the action is pretty good but holy shit what is with these characters and this pacing?

 No.41475

>>41467

Even the action suffers from poor design. The Kiva suit was designed badly so it gave the suit actor bad problems from using it. This gets even worse ass they start using upgrades so they almost never appear.

Kivas concept is good but it's handled badly in every way it could be.

 No.41719

>>41467

Kiva is a fucking mess in every way. Action, characters, pacing, story, it's all horrible. The designs are great but the actual suits like Kiva's main form are horrible. It nearly killed the actor wearing it.

>>41475

Kiva is part of that era in phase 1 heisei where they hired must more experimental J-drama focused writers to see if they could do something more serious and cheesy. So that's why most of the shows in that era feel so not Kamen Rider. The good thing is they were originally written to be completely seperate from each other. So you could watch one without having to see the others. So the good parts weren't guilty by association with the bad. But then now they've either retconned or simply don't care about that anymore so basically it's like they're all part of the same universe now.

Fucking Toei doesn't even bother to properly explain it either. So all we have is theories.

 No.41802

>>41719

I think what I hate most about Kiva is the the inconsistency with the MC where he's a beta fag, but when he turns into Kiva he's a badass. That and the side characters are annoying as fuck. I dropped this show after 4 episodes.

 No.41812

>>41719

Den-O being so popular wrecked the franchise for years to come. Gaim was a ray of hope but it's still not really recovered since then.

 No.41816

>>41812

Fuck you Den-O is the best of phase 1.

 No.41824

>>41816

Den-O was watchable but it's influenced destroyed the franchise and made it become goofy comedy.

 No.41857

>>41824

It was always comedic to differing degrees the whole time. It wasn't till Black that it got super serious. Even Kuuga and Agito, two pretty dark shows, had comedic undertones in it. Stop fooling yourself. Yes I hate it when there's too much bad comedy like Drive and Ghost but Den-O isn't at fault for that.

 No.41876

>>41857

There was always comedy in it but it wasn't a centeral focus. This changed with Den-O and still happens.
