Studio DEEN's latest hit - an anime-original idol show where the parents exist and the dances aren't CG.
No.34173
This moment had fantastic comedic timing, I decided to pick up this show solely because of it. Spoilered because it's an end-of-episode reveal.

Nice, I couldn't get into Aikatsu because I didn't want to spend a large chunk of the episode looking at PS2 graphics. I might watch it.

That's the same reason I couldn't get into Love Live. It's so jarring when a show switches from 2D to 3D and back again. To be fair, DEEN bloats the song animation with some panning shots and so forth.

Well, I thought Love Live was a bland and outright boring show for the most part so I'd say you didn't miss much. The songs were pretty good though.

I was surprised to find that it was just another school club show, though I'd say it was a pretty decent one for the most part, and yeah I liked START:DASH.

>the dances aren't CG.
That's disappointing. CG gets a bad rep by retards, but it's actually quite impressive now a days. Since it's so cheap as well, it guarantees that the studio can pump out tons of dancing scenes too. What else could you possibly want from an idol show?
Still, even if this show ends up with only 1 or 2 songs (almost guaranteed because muh traditional 2d) I'll still watch it diligently. Wish it was CG though so we'd get more.
No.34289
uwaaa, i don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this garbage. Extremely lackluster first episode with not even a hint of originality or creativity to it. The girls weren't even cute enough to overcome the shortcomings, nor were the songs/choreography. This has a long road to climb if it wants to form ranks with Love Live, Im@s, or Bang Dream, let alone the godly idolme like Pretty franchise or Aikatsu.
There was obvious CGI though. Do you retarded niglets think they aren't going to use those models they paid for?

I hate it because the characters look different. The whole point of an idol show is idolising sorry the idols, and it's hard to feel such warm feelings about eerie CG blobs attempting to imitate idol characters.
>>34289
They didn't use them for the performance in the actual episode. The CG we did see was over the opening credits (though I don't think it was the proper OP because of all the plot and dialogue happening during the rest of the credits).

>The whole point of an idol show is idolising sorry the idols
Did I trip into the stupid zone?
The whole point of an idol show is to sing/dance and sell merchandise. CG allows this dramatically more than hand drawn does, and oftentimes looks better to boot. There's a reason we're getting far more idol anime than ever before, and it's through the grace of CG. CG is the magic that gives everyone more idols. How could you possibly hate it? Banzai CG!
As this was the first episode, I'm sure they put forth their best foot and that's why we got 2d-only scenes. However, from episode 2 and onwards things will be done on the cheap so I'm expecting them to use those models in all lives henceforth. Perhaps they'll try to blend it in a la LL, rather than full segments such as Aikatsu, but I'm betting they're getting put to use. There is no such thing as a pure 2D experience when it comes to idols anymore. Cause they're fucking bad.

more content != good content
I don't know how you like the CG. I'm not even a 2D purist, but when you switch characters between 2D and CG constantly, back and forth, it's really immersion-breaking and the CG models end up looking like creepy alien imitations of the characters.

I actually watch idol anime. What you just said simply does not happen. At all. Unless you're watching shitty otaku pandering stuff. Notably, then and only then does that happen. And that still looks good these days. CGI is truly wonderful.

Go fuck yourself yes it does. More 2D idols is always, without exception, good.

trash show tbh.
I do like that Hanako is working to improve them from the shadows in a more managerial role, though. It's a cheap gimmick but it's vastly superior to her being just a Mary Sue and becoming leader. The biggest issue I have with the show right now is that there's too many members in the group. All personality has been reduced to the barest archetypes. Love Live also had this problem, but it had the episode count to address this with episodes focused on expanding individual personality and group unity. I severely doubt Ongaku Shoujo will have the same.

They still put CG when they appear on TV but that's it. The dance after that wasn't. But it's like they focus on the 30sec of dance and go cheap for the rest of the episode.

This. First ep subverted expectations by having her be shit at singing. This ep is showing us what we'll be getting more of: she's a talented manager of the group and will be working from an industrial psychology perspective to help them achieve new heights.

I didn't mind the TV CG because it was basically in the background and off at a weird angle anyway.

This episode was trash and I'm strongly considering dropping it now. Each episode seems like it'll be the MC getting to know the other girls one at a time now that the first two episodes have established the context and I don't really care to see each girl's tragic backstory or strange obsession or whatever.

Unless it's on the same level as a full-length CG film I wouldn't consider it impressive. CG in 2D anime always looks like shit. Just because they put a lot of work in it or paid a lot of money for it, doesn't mean it looks good. And if it looks good or not is all that matters, it doesn't mean shit if it's "impressive" compared to CG in older shows.
And like >>34324 says, people are mostly annoyed it because of the sudden change in artstyle.

Flip Flappers was really underrated. I honestly think it was in the top 10 of anime that came out this decade. I think it's kind of weird how people seem to have completely forgotten about it, especially because the ending was really ambiguous.

Blame shit taste. Everyone just watches trash "trapped in an MMO" isekai and idolshit these days. I'm rewatching it now, and its just as great as the first time.
It's amazing how much layering and foreshadowing they did, not to mention the show is just so damn visually stunning.
Episode 3 of Flip Flappers is probably my favorite episode of any show since 2014; it reminds me of the pure sense of joy and fun back when I first watched FLCL over 15 years ago. By comparison, the new FLCL reboot feels so bland to the point where I feel FlipFlap should be considered the true successor in spirit.

Good for you, I was planning on rewatching it very soon as well due to feeling a bit sick the first time I watched it which ruined the experience.
>not to mention the show is just so damn visually stunning
Yeah, that's probably the biggest reason for me not understanding why it was not a bigger deal. Anime seems to be declining visually every year, with anime coming out now that look like fucking slideshows. Flip Flappers was one of the few shows of the last few years that actually impressed me with how it looked.
>>36895
I rewatched FLCL a few months ago, I'll admit that I didn't like it as much as back when I first saw it but I'd still like more of these "arthouse" anime that try something completely different with its storytelling and visuals. FLCL is an anime where you just need to sit back and enjoy the insanity flashing before your eyes. tl note: just turn off your brain :^)

the show is so ridiculously mediocre it pisses me off. where are the actual idol scenes? where's the dancing and singing?
It's basically pure trash. Every other idol show in existence is better than it. Why couldn't we have gotten something good like Tokyo 7th Sisters instead of this.
