The Ren-ai/Kanon Game era of the early 2000s certainly wasn't.

I used to be partial to late 80s styles, but I think most time periods have styles I love and ones that don't really do it for me.

I think it takes a lot of patience and observation to like old anime art style. The newer ones are simple so that we can focus on the story instead.

No.35311
The painstaking detail of late 80s OVAs is something I miss. The animation had moments but it was really just the pencil drawings with ink over the cells that did it for me even in stills. Now everything is watercolors done digitally. It misses the grittiness of a few hundred hard lines with technicolor hues and shades painted over.
No.35315

Maybe someone will go fuming at this but I like early 2000s animes that look like they were made in flash. They have their charm.
Otherwise late 80s/early 90s are the best.

This.
2007 had the charm of a child and the weirdness of a cat, while being pretty lovely looking already.
2018 is just your generic "hot anime babe", not even a child, nothing weird about her design.

I like 80's since it feels a bit more "western" and human but for anime I like 90s from the first pic. 00's look like a another girl, and 10's has the better face but seems lifeless like 00's. For the first pic. It also feels flat and bland.
3rd pic has a nice 80's and 70's. But why does 90's looked fucked up?

Late 80's early 90's are my fave, and I doubt that's a very controversial opinion around here
>>33376
WTF, despite the more angular jawlines, they manage to still make the male look more feminine each decade with bigger eyes and a slim nose. If they 80's gut told me he'd kick my ass, I might believe him. If the 00's guy told me the same thing, I'd laugh and kick him in the nuts.
>>35311
Pic related.
>>55130
I tend to agree with him, It's not like anime instantly started being shit in 2001. It's been a slow decline. There was still good looking anime in the early 2000's, it just wasn't as good as what came before. The 2000's is when most anime crossed the line from "good enough" to "disappointing."
