A major battle at the end of the second movie gets reduced to a musical montage. One important Zeon commander leaves without any closure to his character. There is very little time dedicated to establishing the Zeon soldiers as ordinary men who just happen to be on the opposite side of the war. The entire thing rushes by at a pace that is far too rapid for my liking.
The positives are the removal of one dumb gimmick of a mobile weapon the White Base is given, replaced with a much better upgrade module, and since the since the pace of the trilogy is so relentless, you feel all the exhaustion that the White Base crew does from the constant attacks, which makes the the ending of the second film in particular feel that much more emotional. Bright being given the order to carry on fighting after they finally made it to safety, the ship flying back up to space while sombre music plays, it's heavy.
I prefer the series, others prefer the movies, some brainlets want The Origin fully animated because reading it is a challenge.
