As the subject says, I have a niece who is around 13 that I've watched Little Witch Academy with, who enjoyed it. Want to give her some good animu to help her develop good tastes. Any suggestions? Have you done something similar with someone else? If so how did it turn out? Would you even try to get someone into it?

Usually my golden trio for recommendations are "Baccano," "Black Lagoon," and "Darker Than Black," but I'm not sure what to recommend to a little girl. It depends hewavily on what she likes. What kind of western shows does she like to watch?
No.26968

That's the strange thing, shes not really into to TV all that much. I've seen her watch older cartoons like Edd Ed and Eddy, Powerpuff Girls (old ones, she doesn't like the newer ones very much), and Malcolm in the Middle. She reads books more than anything, and from what I can tell she likes Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, sometimes Steven King. Tends to like the longer books/series Very similar tastes to me when I was her age.

Probably some porno like To Love-Ru. I don't want some another faggot going to animecons, and if they do I want them to be as repulsive as possible.

>getting your niece into anime
Don't get her into anime, get her into something else. It may seem like a good idea, but it takes only one fujoshit show and she will be ruined forever.

Back when I was in highschool I used to introduce my friends into fansub VHS anime I had. One of them, whom I still speak to, ended up enjoying anime as a whole and we often watch the same stuff each season. He's one of the only people on the internet or otherwise I can talk to about anime and not want to punch in the face for being an insufferable retard.
Everyone else I introduced it to dropped it after holding a casual interest of a few years but they all turned into ultra normalfags anyway.
I've had a couple coworkers over the years that watch anime, but they're the type that think they're "mature" for watching DB Super and Jojo on CR and they bitch about things like fanservice. I try to dodge conversation about anime with them because they're faggots.
As for your niece, OP, just let her discover anime on her own. It's something people either love or hate, and if you force it with cherrypicked mass appeal stuff you'll set her up for disappointment.
You should also prepare yourself for the possibility that an anime interest in females can lead down the path of the fujoshi.

I want to recommend something but I think it's been nailed on the nose already. Ghibli movies are the perfect suit for Westerners to ease into the medium. Probably start with Spirited Away, or Mononoke Hime. She's at a weird age where shes not a kid anymore but definitely not mature enough to watch something more provoking. You could consider When Marnie was here also (another Ghibli movie). I would say to stick with movies since they are quick and easy, and can tie down a young person for 1-2 hours without any fuss; Good for babysitting and the like.

Not that anon but cons are pure cancer. Back in the early 90s they were okay because they were mostly run by computer nerds that did fansubs with a Amiga and military dudes that got into manga while serving in Japan.
Now they're full of shonen kiddies, comicon rejects, obese cosplayers, dub VAs, and SJWeebs from places like Kotaku, Anime News Network, and Funimation. Half the panels are there to bitch about piracy, which is pure hypocrisy since all the vendors are selling knockoff figures and wall scrolls at a 300% markup.
Pic related is what you'll see at a modern con.

I could say but it wouldn't help much besides she isn't a girly girl, but not a tomboy either. Not afraid of weird shit either.
Already said LWA, but from what I've seen and know she may like Girls' Last Tour, Gabriel Dropout, Gunslinger Girls, and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I wish I could say Kemono Friends but that may bore her.

I suppose you're wanting appropriate material, and not just in terms of whether there's lewd or not?
She might find Noein enjoyable, one of the three main characters, Haruka, being a girl about her age and thus perhaps relatable. That said, the series is heavily scifi (the major focus being possibility and alternate universes), so some of it might go over her head. Fair bit of violence without being too visually gory; lewdness limited to just Haruka relaxing in her family's comfy-as-fuck bathtub (with nothing being shown). Still, you might do more research on it, and the art shifts every so often can take some getting used to.
