The first of our laddos is Ichinose Kai. He's a rambunctious little shit born and raised by a prostitute in the red-light district on the edge of town near the forest. For some reason, he's the only one who can play the titular piano. It's usually a broken piece of shit, but for Kai it might as well be mint.

The story opens in media res. He's already an accomplished pianist and plays a little ditty in a competition. CGI, but hey whatever we're all used to it right amigos? right.

And here's the second, Amamiya Shuuhei. He's a prim and proper type who transfers into the primary school where Kai goes to. Serving as Kai's foil in all regards, they're nevertheless best bros after Kai draws the heat off him as he's getting bullied by some fat faggot and they bond over the forest in the piano.

Suspiciously, he was not mentioned or shown in the beginning segment. I fear he will die or suffer some hand-destroying accident.

Possibly important supporting cast. Whether or not the bully and moms will have a major role to play in the story remains to be seen, but the music teacher is certain to be a mainstay.

He's a former rising star professional with a deep dark past, now languishing away teaching as a music teacher in primary school out in the boonies. When the tiger mom learns of him, she goes out of her way to beg him to teach Shuuhei but he refuses. However, the episode ends with him taking note of Kai's particular talent.

I believe I can see where this development is heading, but (non-romance) shoujo is not a genre I'm particularly savvy about. Considering this one takes place across quite a stretch of time, it's bound to be pretty thrilling, with lots of twists, turns, melodrama, and hot piano action.
