 No.17556

I'm currently watching Keroro Gunsou and at first was very skeptic of if I would actually be able to sit through a kids' show with 350+ episodes but I have to say, it's highly addictive so far. I'm 20 episodes in (over a course of 3 days) and never did I even consider dropping it. In terms of comedy, the episodes can be very hit or miss but it's generally quite comfy to watch seeing as most episodes take place in the household of the main characters.

So what are some lengthy shows that you think are worth watching in their entirety? I have at times considered watching One Piece one day once it finally finishes but seeing as I didn't even like manga that much I'm not expecting much from that plan. I've also been planning to watch Gintama for a long time but I'm quite skeptic about that one as well seeing as people online constantly claim it only gets good after 50 episodes or something.

 No.17557

Don't watch Detective Conan. It ran for far too long and the quality dipped hard.

 No.17558

>>17557

I would say one can watch Detective Conan, but ONLY the plot relevant episodes and skip everything that even seems like filler.

Old filler episodes were really nice sometimes, but the newer ones really do suck.

Gintama is a shounenshit comedy for 13 year olds.

>So what are some lengthy shows that you think are worth watching in their entirety?

None. Nothing good lasts more than 3 seasons.

Gintama is top tier fun. It takes a while to get rolling and almost every episode from the Shogun Assassination arc isn't as fun. Kagura's funeral was great though.

Pokemon says hi.

 No.17605

>>17602

Does anybody actually try to tackle that from the start these days? I feel like series like Pokemon are like the Mr. Bones Wild Ride of anime, people unwittingly got on when they were much younger and now just stick it out because they're completely accustomed to it.

 No.17608

>>17605

Pokemon was just an overglorified videogame commercial from the get-go. Pokemon the Origin was the best adaptation of the old games despite skipping everything and shoehorning Charizard X. The Pokemon anime will exist as long as there are games to sell. My disappointment is they couldn't let Ash win the first league and pass the MC role to a new character per region because the studio are a bunch of faggots. Ash strayed so much from source material that they had to redesign Red to show a clear difference from his former anime counterpart.

 No.17609

>>17601

LoGH is literally the longest non-TV anime ever made and it's not even a close contest. Even by TV standards 110 episodes + another 52 of supplemental arcs is long. By comparison with your pic related there's never been a Precure that even hit the full 4 cour mark. Even its predecessor Doremi which is actually a continuous series just barely hits the 200 mark.

>And every Gundam timeline should be counted as one series too, right?

Yes. I don't think you'd find a person on the entire planet who wouldn't call them Gundam so you're just pretty much 100% wrong, you mega turbo ultra final giga ultimate moron.

It's all Gundam, and it's all Precure. Only a NERD would make meaningless distinctions.

 No.17616

>A franchise and a series are the same thing

It's not a meaningless distinction, series have continuity. 'Gundam' or 'Precure' are licensing umbrellas, not series.

 No.17618

>>17616

>It's not a meaningless distinction, series have continuity

Yes, of course, which is why you'll find that every single person on the planet is in accordance that you can gain the full experience and understanding of Gundams rich history and lore by watching precisely 1 show. Every single one of them has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the others and needs not be watched if you have seen any particular one. They should all be counted entirely as separate entities. After all, it is a franchise and not a series. Franchises have 0 continuity and are thus not series.

First season is the only one worth watching. Or at least that's what I'd like to say based on nostalgia but I have never rewatched it.

Still, I do remember it being a bit more focused on telling actual stories rather than just shilling cool pokemon so kids will want to buy the games.

Great false equivalence, nitwit. Most Gundam series are set far enough apart to not dorectly link them, if not taking place in an alternate universe. You probably only watched 79, and the supplementary UC shit. 0, seed, turn a, hell even g take place in seperate times, or different universes.

Dragon Ball, Z, and Super are no longer directly related because GT exists. They're entirely distinct experiences and in no way, shape, or form interconnected.

Face it dumby, a long franchise split across different shows can be part of a series and thought of as a whole.

Cosplay is part of Otaku culture. It only gets one containment thread. That thread however was started by a faggot newfag that wanted 3DPD twink images, so it started off badly. You newfags are so tiring. /animu/ - Anime & Otaku Culture That's code for /jp/, you dumb fuck. If you want to know what topics that covers, just go take a gander at 4/jp/, or more specifically, /jp/ circa 2008-10. If you dislike what you see, you're more than welcome to get back to >>>/elsewhere/

>Onaholes

>3D Idols

I'm the former BO, though I can't prove it so if you don't want to believe me that's up to you. The "otaku culture" part was meant for shit like Touhou and VNs, not for 3D bullshit, no one is interested in that kind of stuff except a handful of retards. Since there's a kpop board you can just make one for Japanese idols as well if you're that into it.

Had the idea to resurrect the /japan/ board if /animu/ were to ever grow and be stable in the 300s. The /japan/ board could be used for everything Japan outside of the anime/otaku stuff such as news, history, language, films, game shows, JAVs, traditions and travel guides. But with the current drop in this board, not likely anytime soon.

Its good up until season 2 and they do that shitty filler where its basically a reintroduction into the series and they undo all character growth in an instant. Its not until the 5th season where shit finally starts to improve to season 1 tier. The movies are all good though.

>>17558

The animation is also pretty lackluster as fuck compared to the earlier material. Even the character designs have gone to shit with most characters now have the lower parts of their face jut out like the maws of deformed horses whenever they turn to the side.

I have gotten to that point recently, on one hand it's understandable why they did it because for someone who had seen it on TV on a weekly basis while it was actually airing those kind of things wouldn't have been as fresh in their memory as for someone who can torrent the entires series in one go. Still, what is annoying about it is the fact that certain episodes are almost exact copies of older ones from the first season.

So, do they do this after every season? I like the show but I wouldn't want to sit through the same rehased episodes over and over again.

Halfway through Legend of Galactic Heroes OVA. I'm enjoying it a lot and I'll read the original novels when I am done with the anime, probably won't bother with the other animated material. The space battles and space physics makes me sperg out a bit but I recognise that these details are far from the most important thing in the show. I would have liked to see more little bits of worldbuilding about the various cultures—Phezzan, Heinessen, FPA frontier planets, Empire nobles as compared to Empire commoners.

Often while watching it I am conflicted on which side I want to see victorious in the current space battle. It always vacillates between the FPA, Reinhard, or both. Reinhard at the beginning was motivated by wanting to take back his sister from the nobles but at this point (end of Episode 54) he has not even spoken to his sister for a long time. I expect that to come crashing down at some point.
