>Watch Seven Samurai if you haven't already. Samurai Rebellion is also good
I already knew about them of course due to their fame but haven't had the time to sit through them just yet.
>Really any samurai movie with Mifune is a must watch
Meh, I didn't really like Yojimbo and Sanjuro much because of the goofy comedy and dialogue though the latter was still watchable, it was only Yojimbo that I thought was outright bad. It seems that most Japanese live-action films have very awkward character interactions, almost as if you were watching an anime with real people which is not a good thing. I also don't like the action scenes much, aside from the fact that they lacked them in my opinion, they're also very short and are not very intense with the main character often immediately defeating his opponent by cutting once. Before this I used to think samurai films had intense, drawn out duel scenes and this was the thing that the films mainly focused on but I guess that assumption was incorrect as they seem to be dealt with almost as some sort of afterthought.
I highly enjoyed Harakiri though, it felt less like a popcorn entertainment kind of movie unlike the ones I previously mentioned.
