No.10935
>Release date: Blu Ray - March 20
I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that in Japan you still have to wait a year for a film to hit home media.
I can't wait anymore.
No.10937
>>10935
Oh this is Studio Ponic's film
No.10938
>>10937
This is basically a Ghibli film now that Ghibli is kill.
It's been over 10 years that we actually got a proper one. I feel so old.
No.10944
>>10938
Pretty much they are all staffed by people who worked at Ghibli only thing they are missing is Joe Hisaishi and some of the other old fags who are dead.
No.10949
>>10944
Lack of Hisaishi is the greatest downside, but the composer is seemingly imitating him, so we shouldn't be worse off.
No.10950
>>10949
Takatsugu Muramatsu is a younger composer but he seems to be talented .

No.10958
Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Shinkai are both being called new faces of directors in Japanese animation, /animu/ you think that holds any worth?
No.10960
>>10958
Considering modern Japanese animation is bogged down by otaku waifu shit, anyone who's trying to do something classy is by default a better representation.
No.10973
>>10938
I enjoyed a lot of recent stuff though. They're not as good as the older films, but they're enjoyable none the less.
No.10974
>>10973
These are worth a watch tbh
No.10977
>>10973
I didn't say they were bad. All are good films, very good (except Ronja. >3D). But they were all smaller films. And Ghibli always made smaller films as well as big spectacles. The difference being, by the time they started making nothing but smaller films (I'd say with Arietty) it became apparent that we will probably never see another big spectacle ever again. And that made all these smaller films feel even smaller. Like they were the last breath of a dying studio. The very thought that you'll never again live in expectation of the next big Ghibli project was just fucking depressing. So to finally see a new classical "Ghibli film" feels truly revitalizing. I hope it did well in Japan and Ponoc will continue to deliver.
No.10980
After Miyazaki's final film I think the staff still remaining will fuck off to Ponoc.
No.10981
>>10980
Is it a film about a worm or whatever? The man was great but now senile. Save us, Ponoc.
No.10985
>>10981
No it's called Kimitachi wa Do Ikiru ka or will be based on it on, or it just be using the name.
No.10986
>>10985
Checked it. So it's gonna another life drama. Basically this >>10977 applies.
He lost any desire for jovial adventure, you can see that in his behavior as well.
No.10990
>>10986
No one really knows if it'll be based on the book or will just be named as a tribute, but like >>10980 I believe the last people working at Ghibli for this final film will fuck off for Ponoc or CoMix Wave films after it's done.
No.10995
>>10990
Even if it's not gonna be based on it, nothing tributing a book like that gonna be Mononoke, you know.
Honestly, all Ponoc needs is Hisaishi. The animation and art direction is already 1:1 Ghibli quality.
No.10997
>>10995
>Honestly, all Ponoc needs is Hisaishi. The animation and art direction is already 1:1 Ghibli quality.
I wonder if he'll even join after the film is done or if he'll just retire.
No.11000
>>10997
He's a prolific composer outside Ghibli, I don't see why he'd retire.
No.11001
>>11000
I hope he joins.
>The animation and art direction is already 1:1 Ghibli quality.
It's full of Ghibli vets and talented newfags who managed to make keep the classic Ghibli feel.
No.11026
In a way it's sad to see Ghibli be pretty much dead but I hope Ponoc can rise to the challenge despite all the pressure they have of being the successor studio.
No.11142

FUCKING FINALLY.
Been waiting on this for awhile.

That's the how they live so long? I always thought they were just genetically prone to live long.
No.11203
>>11201
Asians are genetically inferior, why would they live longer. But they found a way to compensate.
No.11286
>In Japan, the film opened at second place, grossing ¥428 million ($3.9 million) during its opening weekend
Are these digits good for Japan?
No.11327

He's actually somewhat attractive too, little too skinny. Usually Asian men look really girly to me.
>>11200
Actually a lot of their sea food is tied to a lot of different cancers. Study proven. They have very high stomach cancer rate. God knowns we lost a lot of talented people in the anime industry because of it.

I saw it in theatres yesterday and I must say I forgot it wasn't a Ghibli film while sitting through it.

eat healthier, it's harder in japan to find shitty food therefore there's not as many hamplanets strolling around. also since this appears to be from an interview you should assume he's wearing makeup.
No.16229

I still fucking swear that there's a very specific vegetable certain japs eat that causes this, and it was brought up in a gamecenter cx episode once.
