There's no contradiction. They post pictures of themselves because they have low self esteem, men respond and reassure them that they are sexually desirable, then their self esteem rises and they feel that having their pictures on the internet is beneath them.
That's a very simplified model of it, but it captures the basic feedback loop. Nobody posts anything publicly on the internet if they don't want others to comment on it. Even if you disagree with the thought process above, you still must acknowledge that they are seeking some kind of reaction to the pictures.
