I've been wondering if first-world problems aren't actually worse for the psyche than real problems.

The human brain has obviously adapted to attain food, shelter, and security. What happens when food and shelter is provided in abundance but at the whim of others and self-sufficient security is almost impossible to attain due to the economy?
