As an ex-member of the whole fatpeoplehate cancer, I can tell you from experience it’s more complicated than calories in vs calories out. At 6’1, 199 lbs, I had myself at a 2200 calorie diet which is only about 200 calories above my basal metabolic rate (meaning if I were to lay around and do nothing all day, my body would need 2000 calories to maintain my weight). Considering I’m quite active and was going to the gym 4 times a week for nearly 2 hours on top of my jobs and school, I definitely should’ve been losing weight. The interesting thing is, I plateaued at 195. Never went below. Apparently, my body went into “calorie saving” mode and wouldn’t let me burn enough to make a difference, an idea I always took to be bullshit.
Since then, I’ve boosted myself back up to 3000 calories and have gained back some of the weight, but ultimately it helped me fill out my frame and give my muscles a better look. I’m starting my cut this week and will probably go down to 2500-2700 calories.

Cardio is good for the heart, bad for weightloss. You need some measure of strength training. As a prissy wannabe princess myself obviously we don't want this to translate into bulking up so I'm not talking about pushing yourself for huge gains. However muscle will use more calories even resting.
