Pentagon F-16s Scrambled, Release DC Sonic Boom to Chase Wayward Plane

U.S. authorities scrambled jet fighters in a high-speed chase of a light aircraft that violated airspace in the Washington, D.C., area and later crashed into mountainous terrain in southwest Virginia

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/washington-sonic-f-16/2023/06/04/id/1122334/

The United States scrambled F-16 fighter jets in a supersonic chase of a light aircraft with an unresponsive pilot that violated airspace around Washington D.C. and later crashed into the mountains of Virginia, officials said.

No survivors were found at the crash site, Virginia state police said.

The jet fighters created a sonic boom over the U.S. capital as they pursued the errant Cessna Citation, officials said, causing consternation among people in the Washington area.

Four people were onboard the Cessna, a source familiar with the matter said. A Cessna Citation can carry seven to 12 passengers.

After several hours first responders reached the crash site but found no one alive, the Virginia State Police said in a statement.

The Cessna was registered to Encore Motors of Melbourne, Florida, according to the flight-tracking website Flight Aware.

Encore owner John Rumpel told The Washington Post his daughter, a grandchild, and her nanny were on board.

"We know nothing about the crash," the Post quoted Rumpel as saying. "We are talking to the FAA now," he added before ending the call.

The U.S. military attempted to contact the pilot, who was unresponsive, until the Cessna crashed near the George Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

LifeStar Ambulance Company leaves Sussex County after county officials say they owe them $300,000 in billing. Sussex officials terminate contract in retribution.

Ambulance company pulls out leaving Sussex in a 'frightening' spot

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. – A dispute over money between Sussex County and Lifestar Ambulance Service, the company that provided paid emergency medical services (EMS) to the county, has left Sussex scrambling to find volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

Lifestar had worked with Sussex for a decade, but recently Sussex leaders informed the company the county intended to end its contract.

"The Board of Supervisors said we’ve lost over $300,000 in lost billing revenue that we should have gotten and we decided we need to sever our relationship with Lifestar," Sussex Supervisor Eric Fly said.

The contract allowed for there to be a 60-day window for Lifestar to wind down operations and give the county time to figure out how to meet the medical needs of its citizens.

“They just packed up their stuff and walked out," Waverly Mayor Angela McPhayl said.

When asked to comment on the situation, a Lifestar spokesperson sent a statement that read, “Lifestar was advised that our contract for emergency services with the county was terminated without cause. Any questions about emergency services in Sussex County should be directed to their County Administrator or Chief of Emergency Services.”

“They essentially left us with no ambulance service in the county," Fly added. "It put every citizen’s life in Sussex County in danger.”

In order to close the gap in services, Sussex sought help from volunteers like paramedic Michael Whapham.

"I figured I grew up in Waverly, I got my foundation for EMS in Waverly, it’s the least I can dPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

VA Election Official Caught Packing Precincts

May 16, 2023

May 11, 2023 — Political warfare broke out in Buckingham County, VA, last week when their county’s Registrar, Lindsey Taylor, resigned after being caught packing precincts with more Democrat employees and not allowing any of the remedies listed under Virginia Code 24.2-115, when a party Chairperson objects to the proposed staffing list.

The statute requires each precinct to tolerate a partisan imbalance of “no more than one person,” but Buckingham GOP Chair, Ramona Christian, found her county’s partisan mix to be 54 Independents, 17 Republicans and 12 Democrats.

Virginia has party affiliations, so in order for Christian to learn the partisan leanings of each applicant, she had to pull their individual voting records and see which ballot they requested during a party primary election.

When Registrars cannot find enough potential workers from either party, they may substitute “Independent” employees into the mix, but that solution is only allowed if both party chairs are given notice ten days before the election and are allowed “the opportunity to provide additional nominations.” By the way, the law only allows one third of precinct workers to be “citizens who do not represent any political party.”

Christian approached Taylor within the specified time limits and offered four remediation options, but Registrar Taylor rejected all of them and held the elections with the illegal staffing ratios in place.

Amazingly, in what NBC, called a “conservative rural” county, during Virginia’s “red wave” 2022 election, the Democrat School Board candidate in Michelle Ford, managed to win. . . by nine votes.

Infidelity, manipulation and child abuse: Sen. Morrissey and wife’s rift goes public with new allegations

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A rift has formed between Virginia State Senator Joe Morrissey (D-Chesterfield) and his wife, Myrna Morrissey, as they both lay serious allegations against one another in a skirmish of public statements.

In an extensive Instagram post, Myrna Morrissey alleges her husband had a history of infidelity, manipulation and parental absence.

In response, Joe Morrissey claimed that his children told him they had been abused by their mother’s boyfriend. In addition, he claims that Chesterfield Police detectives are currently investigating.

8News has reached out to the Chesterfield County Police Department late Friday night to verify Joe Morrissey’s claims. The department responded saying it had received “a report of alleged abuse regarding a child who may possibly have been assaulted by an offender known to him.” The department added that the report has been assigned to a Special Victims Unit detective.

The couple has been the subject of controversy for years, having first met while she was a teenager working in his office. Despite the public backlash, Joe Morrissey was elected to the House of Delegates in 2015, while serving time for the misdemeanor charge for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Morrissey now represents the 16th district in the state senate.

Sen. Joe Morrissey’s response

8News reached out to Joe Morrissey for comment shortly after his wife made her statement. Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, the senator’s office released the following statement:

“Last night, at 8:00 PM, Senator Joe Morrissey was swimming with his three (3) young children (ages 4, 6, and 7) at the Jefferson hotel in Richmond, VA. Afterwords, he gave all three (3) children baths. His 4 year old son, Maverick, refused to take off his bathing suit and Senator Morrissey asked what was wrong. His six year old, Bella, responded, “Daddy, Maverick is embarrassed because of his welts and stripes all over his butt.” Senator Morrissey removed the bathing suit from Maverick and was horrified to see his son was beaten brutally on his buttocks.

Senator Morrissey took all three (3) kids out of the bath and asked what happened. The three (3) children stated at the the same time that “mommy’s boyfriend lined us up against the wall for being disrespectful and maverick was beaten with a belt 6 times.”

Senator Morrissey immediately called his wife, confronted her with the allegation, and told her that the abuser must immediately leave the home. Myrna texted Senator Morrissey shortly after that if Senator Morrissey said anything about the incident that she would “fucking ruin him and his life.” Her text has been saved.

Senator Morrissey immediately called the Richmond Police Department and officers promptly responded. Upon responding, Richmond Police Officers were so horrified by the injuries to the 4 year old that that at midnight, they called Chesterfield Police and forensic photographers, who took pictures of the horrific injuries on the 4 year old. The 4 year old told the Chesterfield Police that the boyfriend soaked the belt in water before beating him 6 times. CPS was called, Chesterfield Detectives are currently investigating, and Senator Morrissey intends to let the justice system run it’s coarse.”

Northam pardons Sen. Morrissey for relationship with underage secretary

by: Emma North

https://www.wric.com/news/politics/northam-pardons-sen-morrissey-for-relationship-with-underage-secretary/

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Sen. Joe Morrissey was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in December of 2014 after engaging in an intimate relationship with his 17-year-old secretary. Now, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has granted him a simple pardon for the crime.

His secretary at the time, and now wife, Myrna Pride was 17 when Morrissey entered a relationship with her. The state senator’s application for pardon emphasizes that Pride was 17 and a half, insisting that she was mature enough to make her own decisions at that point.

Morrissey and Pride went on to get married and have four children together.

“We feel fully vindicated,” Morrissey told 8News Friday.

Despite the criminal charges, Morrissey was reelected to the House of Delegates while in jail, and later elected to the Virginia Senate.

His petition for simple pardon was submitted to Northam on Nov. 29, 2021, and included affidavits of support from Pride, her mother and grandmother; all expressed support for the relationship in 2014.

The notice that Morrissey’s pardon had been granted was signed by the governor on Jan. 13.

The simple pardon issued by Northam does not remove the crime from Morrissey’s record. Instead, the notice from the governor calls the pardon a “meaningful recognition to Virginians yearning for a second chance.”

With Johnny Depp's defamation trial continuing to dominate headlines, one of the witnesses expected to testify has become a controversial figure in the proceedings.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Depp, 58, has filed a $50-million lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, who he has accused of defaming him in her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post, where she said she was a survivor of domestic abuse.

Despite Depp not being named in the article, his lawyers have argued that it was clear Heard, 36 was referring to the actor. Heard is counter-suing Depp for $100 million.

During proceedings at the Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse, Depp and Heard have accused one another of domestic abuse. Both have denied the allegations.

As the trial draws toward its conclusion, one of the witnesses expected to take the stand and testify is Adam Waldman, who has started to make headlines of his own.

Who Is Adam Waldman?

Waldman is a Washington, D.C.-based attorney and lobbyist, who reportedly has ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin's inner circle.

Ties to Putin's Inner Circle

Waldman has also been linked to Vladimir Putin, who himself has dominated headlines over the past few months due to his ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

According to Insider, Waldman filed paperwork with the U.S. Department of Justice in May 2009, indicating that he would be working with Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, providing "legal advice on issues involving his U.S. visa as well as commercial transactions."

Deripaska's U.S. visa was revoked in 2006 amid concerns about his links to organized crime.

Months after he started working with Waldman, Deripaska was allowed to make two visits to the U.S. in 2009. There is no suggestion Waldman has any connection to any form of organized crime.

Russian President Vladimir Putin

Adam Waldman has worked with oligarchs who have close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose invasion of Ukraine has dominated headlines in recent months. Putin is pictured speaking during the Summit of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) at the Grand Kremlin Palace, May,16,2022, in Moscow, Russia.

According to Insider, Deripaska met with FBI agents about an unspecified criminal investigation. The Wall Street Journal reported that Deripaska also had meetings with Morgan Stanley, General Motors, and Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

Waldman and his company reportedly received "a monthly retainer of $40,000" for working with Deripaska, who he said was not under the direction or supervision of any foreign government.

Democratic Sen. Mark Warner texted with Russian oligarch lobbyist in effort to contact dossier author Christopher Steele

EXCLUSIVE – Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee who has been leading a congressional investigation into President Trump's alleged ties to Russia, had extensive contact last year with a lobbyist for a Russian oligarch who was offering Warner access to former British spy and dossier author Christopher Steele, according to text messages obtained exclusively by Fox News.

"We have so much to discuss u need to be careful but we can help our country," Warner texted the lobbyist, Adam Waldman, on March 22, 2017.

"I'm in," Waldman, whose firm has ties to Hillary Clinton, texted back to Warner.

Steele famously put together the anti-Trump dossier of unverified information that was used by FBI and Justice Department officials in October 2016 to get a warrant to conduct surveillance of former Trump adviser Carter Page. Despite the efforts, Steele has not agreed to an interview with the committee.

Secrecy seemed very important to Warner as the conversation with Waldman heated up March 29, when the lobbyist revealed that Steele wanted a bipartisan letter from Warner and the committee’s chairman, North Carolina Republican Sen. Richard Burr, inviting him to talk to the Senate intelligenPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Richmond officer arrested, faces 50 counts of possession of child pornography

by: Kassidy Hammond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond Police officer is on leave without pay after he was arrested this week and charged with dozens of counts of possession of child pornography.

A lengthy investigation conducted by the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office led detectives to obtain a search warrant for a home on Old Apple Grove Road in Louisa. During the search, multiple digital media devices were seized and were later confirmed to contain “a large number of files containing images of child sexual exploitation,” the Louisa Sheriff’s Office said. Several charges were then issued for possession of the pornography.

Members of the Richmond Police Department arrested a fellow Richmond officer, 51-year-old David Edward Stone, of the Town of Mineral, in connection to the charges on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Stone was later turned over to Louisa deputies.

According to court documents, Stone faces 50 counts of possession of child pornography in Louisa Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. His offense date for all counts is listed as Nov. 5, 2022. The charges include one count of possession of child pornography and 49 counts of possession of child pornography for the subsequent findings.

Stone is currently on administrative leave without pay. Prior to his arrest, he had been with the Richmond Police Department since Nov. 27, 2006.

“The Richmond Police Department does not tolerate the abuse of children in any form and this officer will be held accountable for his actions,” the department said in a statement.

Court documents show Stone is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m.

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - A Henrico man was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison for having bomb-making materials and drugs inside his home.

Michael Hardy was arrested in March 2022 after the items were found in the home on West Durwood Crescent, forcing nearby residents to shelter in place or evacuate the area.

He initially faced 17 felony charges and six misdemeanor charges. On Friday, he was sentenced for creating/using bombs or explosives, displaying a firearm, and distribution/selling for profit.

He was found guilty on six charges total with an 80-year sentence, but 68 of those years were suspended, resulting in a 12-year sentence.

In March 2022, police said over 100 pieces of evidence were collected, with much of the evidence being drugs, firearms, and bomb-making materials. These are the items that first alarmed law enforcement when they went into the home to execute a search warrant.

At the time, police said that records showed that there were nearly 50 calls for service at the home over the past five years, 20 of which resulted in reports being made.

The nearly 50 calls to the county were almost always for "missing persons." Neighbors reported seeing naked girls running down the street from the residence. None of these calls resulted in any arrests or investigations.

Support is growing for the seven sheriff’s deputies charged with second degree murder.

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) -A fundraiser was launched just days ago to help the deputies and their families while they navigate the legal process.

The headline: “Help our Deputies” with the message to offer them financial and community support.

“There were a lot of people in that room. They are not all going to be of equal culpability for them, not nearly what it is for the family, but it’s certainly a tragedy for these officers as well.” Dana Schrad, Executive Director of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, said.

A tragedy prompted some who support those with a badge to donate what they can to an online fundraiser on social media.

The campaign states in part:

“Please join me in supporting our Henrico Deputies, Randy Boyer, Dwayne Bramble, Jermaine Branch, Bradley Disse, Tabitha Levere, Brandon Rodgers, Kaiyell Sanders, who have been caught in the horrific situation involving the death of Irvo Otieno. We have to stand up and support our husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, Fathers, Mothers and friends that put their lives on the line for us every day. I would like to raise funds to support these Deputies in any way we can. This is a horrible tragedy and we must show our law enforcement that we stand behind them. They are the thin blue line and we have to have their backs. Please research this horrific event and consider a contribution to support them. Thank you for any help.”

Project Tropical to see two more data centers build in Henrico County–

Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, is looking to expand its data center campus outside Richmond, Virginia.

First reported by Richmond BizSense, the company has acquired a large portion of land close to its existing data center within Henrico County’s White Oak Technology Park and is looking to develop more data centers under the name ‘Project Tropical’.

According to the Henrico County real estate page, the 475-acre plot was sold by the County’s Economic Development Authority for $35.2 million at the end of October 2022. Scout Development LLC, the same company with which Meta developed and purchased land in White Oak in 2017, was the purchaser.

The company has since filed to develop two data centers at 3951 Portugee Road, next to a substation and south across the road from its existing Henrico campus.

The project was first heard of in September 2017, when Henrico's planning committee approved a 2.5 million sq ft development called Project Echo with an unknown backer. It was formally announced by Facebook in October of that year. An expansion was announced in September 2018, with the first phase of the site going live in August 2020.

Virginia's Loudon County school board won't release report on 2021 high-profile bathroom assaults

The board voted 6-3 on Tuesday night, following a grand jury report that concluded school officials mishandled the situation.

The Loudoun County School Board in northern Virginia has decided not to release the findings of an independent report on the 2021 sexual-assault cases at two high schools that attracted national attention and was a focal point in parents' quest during the height of the pandemic for more transparency in public schools.

The board voted 6-3 on Tuesday night, citing attorney-client privilege, which can protect the identify of the accused and victims, despite a grand jury report that concluded school officials mishandled the situation.

Parents reportedly stormed out of a school board meeting after the vote, according to Fox 5, a local Fox TV affiliate.

Virginia law allows people to appeal a final school board decision to the local circuit court.

The 91-page grand jury report was released in December 2022 and confirmed the assaults occurred in May and October 2021.

In the first attack, the assailant, a male dressed in women's clothing, attacked a female student in a girl's bathroom. He was transferred from that high school campus, then commit a second sexual assault at the second campus five months later, according to The Washington Post.

The investigation was authorized by Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

The report also says Loudoun Schools Superintendent Scott Ziegler lied about the incident at a June 2021 board meeting, denyPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Virginia judge uses 19th-century slavery law to rule frozen embryos are property

Frozen human embryos can legally be considered property, or “chattel”, a Virginia judge has ruled, basing his decision in part on a 19th-century law governing the treatment of enslaved people.

The preliminary opinion by a Fairfax county circuit court judge, Richard Gardiner, which he delivered in a long-running dispute between a divorced husband and wife, is being criticized by some for wrongly and unnecessarily delving into a time in Virginia history when it was legal to own human beings.

“It’s repulsive and it’s morally repugnant,” said Susan Crockin, a lawyer and scholar at Georgetown University’s Kennedy Institute of Ethics and an expert in reproductive technology law.

The General Store located in the Meadow Run Grist Mill ca. 1797

More than anything else, the mill stands as a symbol of America’s growth. Gristmills, powered by wind or water, ground grain into flour for life-sustaining bread as well as feed for animals.

Michie Tavern dismantled this 1797 mill from nearby Laurel Hill, Virginia, numbered each piece and then transported it by truck more than 50 miles so that it could be reconstructed here. The painstaking restoration required two and a half years.

Is Young-Kin trying to buy Virginians off?

Gov. Glenn Youngkin's administration on Wednesday announced $30 million in K-12 "learning recovery grants" to help qualifying families cope with COVID-19 learning loss.

The Wednesday afternoon announcement came a day before Youngkin is to appear in a nationally televised CNN town hall on "the battle over education." The town hall is to air at 9 p.m. Thursday and last about an hour.

According to a release from the Youngkin administration, qualifying students whose family income does not top 300% of the federal poverty level would get a $3,000 K-12 Learning Recovery Grant; all other qualifying students would receive a $1,500 K-12 Learning Recovery Grant.

For a family of three the federal poverty level is $24,860. So a qualifying family could get a $3,000 grant if its income did not top $74,580.

The town hall is another opportunity for Youngkin — who has not discounted the possibility of a presidential bid — to burnish a national reputation at a time when he lags far behind President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in theoretical GOP presidential polling. A recent Roanoke College poll showed that while Youngkin's popularity in Virginia rose to 57% in February, a clear majority of Virginia respondents do not want him to run for president.

On Thursday, GOP Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin participated in a CNN town hall focused on public education that found Youngkin agreeing that the historically debunked, critical race theory-infused 1619 Project should be taught in schools.

"What do you say to a teacher who wants to teach what any number of scholars who say that the condition of black Americans today can be traced all the way back to Fort Monroe in 1619, that it's not as if every generation is just brought forth new, that there were hundreds of years of slavery, a hundred years of Jim Crow, and today is part of that."

Tying the "condition of black Americans" to 1619 is a reference to the 1619 Project.

"Youngkin responded by saying "we must step back and teach all that. And then we have to recognize where we are today."

An audience member and social studies teacher had previously asked Youngkin to distinguish between "teaching CRT (critical race theory) in the classroom and the teaching of historical injustices such as slavery and segregation" and Youngkin replied, "Teaching our history is critical. And I have said all along that our standard should be to teach all of it the good and the bad."

He also said it was important to "clearly define" the CRT as a philosophy, not a curriculum, invoking the ideology's origin popularized by Jean Stefancic and Richard Delgado's book "Critical Race Theory: An Introduction." According to Stefancic and Delgado, CRT is an activist principle that began in academia that posited that racism was ordinary and endemic to American society. The theory states any statistical disparity among ethnic groups is hard evidence of racism and then defines individuals by their racial and ethnic identity and then assigns them a place within structures and hierarchies of power.

Speaking to Tapper, Youngkin said he had CRT removed so "we're not pitting our children against one another based on race or religion or their sex but, you know, teaching all history, the good and the bad."

Youngkin was then asked by a member of the crowd, "Do you agree that there's an unspoken culture? of racism and implicit bias against teachers of color within school districts nationwide?"

"I believe racism exists, and racism has existed for centuries and 1000s of years, and we should condemn it," Youngkin said. "And you know, my faith teaches me first to love God above all other things, and then to love each other as He loves us. And I think it is imperative that there's no room for racism. There's no room for bias. There's no room for harassment in our schools or in our communities. I also believe that we have an opportunity to come together as Virginians and as Americans and lock arms and say we're going to look forward and we're going to create opportunity."

"See, we've found ourselves in a moment, where we're allowing ourselves to be pitted against one another in all things. And we all of a sudden find that everything has to be viewed through a lens of race. I don't think we should ignore our past. I think we should know it. I don't think we should pretend that racism doesn't exist, because it does. But how we move forward is up to us. And I think there's an opportunity for us to put down the accusations and put down the judgment and movPost too long. Click here to view the full text.
