There's a time and place for every medi-gun. I personally use stock for attack and quickfix for defense. I think kritz is best for things like koth. whilst vacc can be good in several cases but is more about keeping the medic alive in the frontlines and making sure that everyone is healed rather than having über pushes/defenses.

So it depends on map, team, and playstyle. This is just how I use them and I suggest that you try every medigun and playstyle for yourself.

Please use the kritz instead of any other medigun.

Please don't use it one the Heavy unless right in the middle of a fight. Please use it on your friendly demo, soldier, or pyro. If they suck, use a normal uber on them instead if they're taking down a nest.

Everyone constantly bitches about how overrated the kritz is, and yeah, you have to have timing, but the point is that the heavy is often a poor choice for a kritz uber. Hell, sometimes a scout can be more effective. It's all about taking down high priority targets and sentries quick, whether pushing or defending.

Quick Fix is good if you're actually a team-healer, vaccinator is…okay, and interesting for the medic, but even when you're paying attention it's still not a miracle.

In the video, I misspelled it. Sorry. I'm currently working on making a pyro hat out of 75 phlogs.

This weapon is, as far as I'm aware, the most stupidly overpowered thing ever to disgrace the good name of pyros. Perhaps the very worst-balanced weapon Valve has ever implemented, direct upgrades included. For those of you who don't know or don't see what all the fuss is about, allow me to pontificate.

First off, we'll go over the disadvantages, almost none of which impact a bad player in any meaningful way:

- No airblast whatsoever. This is the big one. You can't put out teammates (selfish pyros don't anyways). You can't reflect projectiles (unskilled pyros can't anyways). You can't push enemies off cliffs on the few maps that feature them (dumb pyros don't anyways). You can't do that dumb, cheesy reserve shooter combo (the one good thing about this weapon). Compare the former most OP flamer, the backburner's penalty (3x airblast cost)

- 10% damage penalty. Compare the Degreaser's similar penalty (10% damage penalty + 25% afterburn damage penalty.)

- No random crits. We'll see more about crits in advantages.

- Doesn't flame someone close enough to bump into you (as much), so if a scout drops down directly on your head or you're enough of a noob to get outstrafed, you have to switch to melee. This means that in some ways the best way to kill a phlog user is to go Pyro. I mentioned in another thread that the biggest hallmark of being OP is when the best way to counter a class is to become that same class. Not in the same way, but the phlog does make pyros OP.

Let me briefly mention the advantages of the weapons compared above. The backburner gives you mini-crits on flame damage just for getting behind someone (which adds up to a lot of low-damage mini-crits in a few seconds), and is undeniably cheap but takes a small amount of skill. The Degreaser lets you switch weapons way faster, which can be manipulated for crit combos of varying cheapness but requires you to have some skill and timing and work with your enemy as they change ranges.

In 2012, this was true, but airblast was reworked so that it stops all momentum. There are only two ways to avoid a puff+sting script: scout's double jump or demo's shield charge. Otherwise, you cannot strafe out of the airblast, and must wait until you hit the ground or get damaged to control your own movement.

Good phlog players who taunt around corners and use flares to build damage are countered by communication. If you take a lot of afterburn damage from a Pyro you need to warn your teammates.

Isn't it a pain in the ass to sit still for 6 seconds to destroy it with flares? And the tiny hitbox is a problem for people with shotguns or pistols. People say

"Scout just outranges it with pistol" but the mini's so tiny most of the bullets miss, even if you stand still with your crosshair centered on them.

As for running into enemy lines to kill the gunslinger weilder, competent engineers stay within range

of their minis, it's easy to move the sentry with them. If they have decent DM skill, then they are basically a 150 HP shotgun+pistol with a small aimbot that deals 48 DPS, noticeable knockback, and significant jitter. That hard counters scouts, pyros, and in open areas heavies too. It even contests soldiers, who need two rockets for the Engineer, two for the mini, and he loses at least 100 hp from the mini alone. That's an awful lot for an extremely low skill floor playstyle. Normal engineers have aimbot area denial, but they must have wise positioning and nest maintenance. Gunslinger sucks the strategy out of the class.

Snipers are at least skill indexed. As they get better at clicking heads, you ought to get better at dodging. Sniping's only really easy against bad players. Good players will change heights, directions, speeds frequently, and not have an obvious goal in mind. I can trick a skilled sniper, but the gibusvision with a gunslinger is stealing at least 50 HP with his retardedly placed mini no matter what I do.

Clearly you have the luxury of playing a less expendable class than Pyro. If I see a mini-sentry up ahead I try to kill the engi with flares while dancing around to avoid fire and spies, if I succeed then I spycheck around me and fight anyone from the other team who comes along while tossing a flare at the mini sentry now and then if I'm not at terrible health or against a soldier. Most of the reason I use the flare isn't for crits, it's just the only way to give pyro anything approaching long-range weaponry. The accuracy is decent, though fairly shit for a single projectile and hobbled by having to judge the arc. Sometimes someone comes along with a black box not knowing how to use it and just makes the mini sentry that much easier to kill.

If that doesn't work I just wait for a soldier or demo from my team, or if there are none or they're all otherwise engaged or can't do basic stuff I just go soldier or demo myself. My default soldier loadout includes the Direct Hit and it doesn't really matter what else, because I usually go soldier to roflstomp other soldiers, fuck around with snipers in new and exciting ways, and most of all break down engi nests enough in one life that I can respawn before they recover from the damage and keep beating them down. I love it when a medic sees I'm going after a nest and gives me a kritz, if I'm doing well enough to consistently land rockets on moving enemies too it makes for a very rewarding wipe.

The great thing about engi in general is that they're vulnerable during transport/setup. Sure, the mini's so cheap that, especially with the FJ they may just decide to break the old one down and pop a new one, but that's still time with their pad out, and that's time to burninate. A mini's set up time is still enough for me to burn it down, and the engi is close at least at first, so I can set them ablaze at least. From there it's a flare or two to a kiPost too long. About your point that the engi is vulnerable when rebuilding; that engineer can plop it down without hindering movement and then switch to his shotgun. If you stand still to burn/destroy the mini he ought to kill you, if he's not terrible.

Minis are somewhat stationary, but there's no reason for the engineer not to move locations frequently. Assuming it's always in the same place is not practical.

I find it odd that all your arguments pro minisentry suggest that I must change class to direct hit soldier or stay out of its range entirely, yet argue that you should not have to do anything about snipers, such as avoid their sight lines. No, instead a class that's entirely skill based and has glaring weaknesses should be completely redone to make the game easier for you.

All I want is minis to turn slower (regular sentry turn speed) and have 90 HP. How do you think valve should fix snipers?

Years of getting shat on and called OP while fighting splash and acting as backup backup medic. No, actually pyro is just a high-risk and confrontational class so there's always someone farming you or raging at you, even with burn damage as primary and all of those posthumous kills it can still be eggshell thin between wiping half a team and dying over and over for 2 assists. Pyro players are generally unbearable cheesing faggots, perpetually angry people who can't be satisfied by mere rocket spam, they want to taste their enemies' flesh crackling, or smug as fuck team players who just really love talking smack and raising salt. Especially when they kill the sniper or cap the point while the more suited team members are off carefully nurturing their killstreak. So whether they take themselves and the game super seriously or not, they will always be either super friendly or talking shit or both at the same time to different people. If they aren't arguing with someone in chat or telling you what's up ahead on voice, they're either a noob pyro or the killfeed should be lighting up with a nice streak in a few secs.

Fun Fact: Pyros are so expendable that they are the only class out there to have (last I checked) no item to upgrade their health.

I could never take the concept of competitive TF2 seriously. Random crits are one of the funniest parts of the game even though they always seem to be in the form of Heavies directing fire at me, so I play pubs. Whenever I go to Skial or ElitePowered or any of those other common fast clan pubservers, it's either one team has some group of friends with their clan tag in their name all on one team working one particular map with an engie setup or something, or the kind of noobs who will quite literally sometimes allow me to stand on top of the cart and taunt the entire way to the next point.

As you can probably tell, I prefer cart. This is because it's faster. Sentry nests get broken up as a matter of course, and if not I can go demo and have some backup while I break them.

On defense, my mission is usually simple: be as much of a prick as possible to BLU. Like I said before, I use the degreaser, but I only use the flare gun as a backup if something faster than me is getting away or I'm out of range when they see me. Mostly I use it so I won't get shot down while switching weapons, but also because I have to burn people a little longer before they die, which gives them slightly more time to react and surprise me with a good move. I barely ever use melee, but I generally keep the Homewrecker equipped. If I'm around when a spy starts some fuckery, I give everything a quick puff, put my back to a wall if possible, and get the sapper off the sentry first, then try for the rest and/or killing any exposed/suspected spy. If the spies are really getting an engi or if my team's not halting the advance despite me driving back enemies*, farming medics, breaking the line…I'll fall back to an engi getting heat and reflect projectiles, routinely spy-check, hunt down or at least drive back sticky spamming demos, etc. Soldiers and demos usually don't expect a pyro to leave the sentry roost once they've started airblasting for some reason, it makes for a good surprise.

Also I block points a lot with little time on the clock because most players seem to either not know you can do that or just be worried about their KtD or hitting the top of the scoreboard or whatever. What's the point of a quick respawn function if you're going to play "realistically" like you're afraid to die?

*Yes, most players will run away under a quarter health, all the way back to spawn or maybe meeting a medic, and waste ALL THAT TIME, for their utterly pointless KtD ratio rather than just turning on the hurt and taking me down with them to save the rest of their team. No one gets the point of this game, or at least cart.

Oh yeah and when you're telling me I'm "hacking" because I'm making jerky movements and always catching the spy, it's actually because I'm playing on a touchpad on mute at a McDonalds or something, because pyros just don't give a fuck and if I have less awareness of my surroundings, I will only spycheck that much more and make extra stops for ammo.

I've been going on servers hosted by a group called "fucked in the head" lately. No random crits, lots of map variety and votes for next map. It does have pretty strict rules on vulgarity though; a guy exclaimed fuck after getting killed by a phlog and he got kicked even after apologizing.

I tend to stick with Skial so I can't honestly compare other server groups with them. Usually they're pretty full. Reasonable rules, no admins running around being faggots and spamming commands. The handful of times I've seen aimbotters, SMAC or an admin bans them.

I've never tried Lotus but they're usually compared with Skial so that could be another option. Just never join a SodaHappy server. 2000% autism.

Or at least until I stopped playing (August last year).
Their Turbine server was pretty much all I pubbed on, and the regulars there were pretty good (IIRC, the majority of them played comp at pretty high levels). If you're a medic, you'll find a home as a pubstar :^) there pretty quick, because everyone likes to play demo.

I was the faggot with the phosporous gonzilla (or the one who always pocketed pacer and ubered tee), just in case anyone here was an Interrofag.
