Post the last book(s) you have read. It would be nice if you add a synopsis or review as well, but it's not a requirement. Just seeing a snapshot of what other image-board anons are reading is itself awesome.

New feature for 2018! This thread is set to Cycle mode. Here's to a forever book reading thread.

The last book I read was a mystery novel from Bas Bleu https://bas-bleu.pissedconsumer.com/review.html—it arrived right on time, and I liked the curated selection they offer. If you enjoy thoughtful reads, that site’s worth checking out. Just be sure to track your orders and reach out if needed; their support can help, especially if you keep records.

Over time, we have managed to shrink technology further and further down, the iPhone 16 for example contains 16 billion transistors, drones have also been shrinking, and will keep shrinking down to the microscopic scale, to a scale so small they are invisible to the naked eye and are able to enter the pores of our skin, these are called Nanobots. The media tells us these bots will be used for healthcare purposes, that they will be used to fight off diseases, maybe even stifle aging, but couldn't they also be used to take control of the brain and muscles of the host?, and be piloted around by the administrator? We already know about the Ophiocordyceps unilateralis and its ability possess other organisms that consume it, nanobots will be engineered with the same ability, whilst also being airborne drones. Once this is achieved we would have no way to object to this, ask yourself can you protest against the common cold? Not against vaccines or quarantines I mean literally protest against the Cold virus: you cannot see it (they're 30 nanometers in diameter), you cannot reason with it (they doesn't talk), you cannot avoid it (they travels through the air and statistically speaking; 100% of people will catch a cold in their lifetime), Nanobots will be as communicable as the cold and as nefarious as the Cordyceps.

The rise of 3D printers has given the public access to machines that can manufacture 3 dimensional structures, structures like firearms, explosives; bio-printers soon to be capable of printing diseases. The populace are now able to bear arms without licenses and other weapons that are entirely illegal.

AI has almost perfected the ability to simulate a human being, fake audio and video of someone can now be generated via a plethora of websites, this is blatant identity theft. There have been cases of prompters: impersonating others to access bank account details, creating pornographic deep fakes, generating CP, legal evidence can now be dismissed as AI generated. To the person reading this, Your own identity is at risk of theft.

In the workforce, people: demand wages, demand time off, make mistakes, are often one-trick-ponies only knowledgeable in a specific field. AI does not suffer from these constraints, AI: demands only energy to continue workinPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

That is to say he'll play either the 40-50 year old Duke Leto Atreides in this new movie or Paul's son; the twenty year-old Leto II in a Dune sequel that may roll out in 2040.

Dune managed to put me off 80 pages into the second book, in no small part due to the preface written by Herbert's son. The guy seemed to have minimal understanding of how Dune played out, and hearing that he actually wrote shit after his father died was a guarantee of infuriating mediocrity. The first book had its moments (dinner scene in particular sticks to mind) but Herbert drops the ball repeatedly, and I got shaken out of the story by this particular moment:

>The Emperor’s smile was calculating. “Anyone accepted into the Imperial company is a member of my entourage.”

>“You have the word of a Duke,” Paul said, “but Muad’Dib is another matter. He may not recognize your definition of what constitutes an entourage.”

And then I couldn't continue even past the few chapters of Messiah. Now I'm thinking I should do what this guy >>13750 did.

A magazine about the old Internet sounds fascinating—like flipping through digital history, full of vintage sites and early memes. If you're into that kind of nostalgia, you might enjoy Bas Bleu https://bas-bleu.pissedconsumer.com/review.html thoughtful reads and literary gifts. I’ve used their site before , and my advice is to browse carefully, read reviews, and enjoy their unique bookish charm.

>primary suffering ontologically cannot be erased, even through divine power

why?

well even through divine intervention, it cannot change the fact that suffering was actually experienced. nothing can, it happened and once it happened it can't be changed, how could it? the qualia was experienced.

>god created a system with a sort of existential irreversibility and then added suffering into it

how is this not reckless and incredibly evil

How do you deal with noisy neighbors/surrounding while reading.

Like other great geniuses, like Kant, Schopenhauer etc. I find any kind of noise - except nature sounds like birds - disrupting. I find human sounds, especially talking, absolutely disturbing and driving me nuts. As a subhuman living in an apartment building and one of the neighbors is an old fuck who watch her retarded TV programs like 10 hours a day, it is not super loud, but loud enough to disturb my reading and rest.

How do you cope? White/brown noise, ear plugs, music, public libraries?

Back when everyone was a farmer, everyone wanted to be a lord in the castle, having lots of delicious things to eat. Now, so many spend most of their lives indoors, eating delicious things, yet now everyone wants to be farmers. Is this just a case of "grass is greener?" Will I not be happier if I have my own land? I feel like it's hard to argue that raising a family is as easy in a city as it is on a 10-acre lot, out in the countryside…

Fuck off, Frank. No one reads your shitty books, no one cares that you're alive, you live all by yourself in a 540 sq. ft. studio apartment on the 38th floor of a 100-year-old building in a crummy part of Chicago, your parents ditched you there and fucked off to Florida, you have no prospects, and you're most likely diabetic from your awful diet of delivery food and alcohol, but you never go to the doctor, so you'll probably die, alone and unlamented, before you turn 40. Your YouTube channel is 100% astroturfed, you pay for views/likes/subscribes, you have zero organic engagement, and you're fooling absolutely no one, not even yourself. But to answer your question, people can decide for themselves by downloading your entire cacas librorum from https://files.catbox.moe/d9sukc.zip, or better yet, they can read two mean-spirited parodies of your work: Call Of United Airlines at https://files.catbox.moe/aw9gz2.pdf or Call Of Wells Fargo at https://files.catbox.moe/rpuvnd.pdf. The best depiction of femdom is SM Stirling's novel Drakon, which besides the femdom is clever and hilariously satirical. A close second is various episodes in the Flashman papers, which has two interesting things about it, firstly that the Flashie novels are well researched historical novels, so these women actually existed, and secondly that their author worked on the first two 1980s Superman movies and on Octopussy, so there's clearly femdom themes in there.

Sorry if you're not into femdom. Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty novels are pretty good.

If someone like say, Netflix, ever did another adaptation of the classic Wayside School books, one where Louis Sachar actually had input(like he did with Holes), which art style would be most aesthetically pleasing to use?
