Hey /vr/! Tell me, what's your favourite N64 game? My favourite is Ocarina of Time.

Never thought I'd say this, but Ocarina of Time is honestly underrated.

I'd have to go with this.

I was a console-only pleb back then, and went straight from the SNES to the N64, so the notion of a world this size that I could explore in microscopic detail was mind-blowing.

Sunk an incalculable amount of hours into it. Never got all the golds, but my buddy and I spent ages exploring and devising our own challenges.

Based on what possible metrics, anon?

It's on virtually every personal top ten and critical top ten ever compiled for the system.

Well, it's pretty much been "that overrated Zelda game" since the start of the 2010s, although I admit that that observation is mostly based on anecdotal evidence.

I mean sure, it's not even the best Zelda game on the N64, but it's mostly outshined by Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and even Twilight Princess these days.

I played it when it first came out and thought it was OK. Now people tell me it's 10/10, best game ever made…

I don't like the 64 all that much. If I had to say, my favorite game would be Custom Robo.

Pilotwings 64 is pretty great, as a kid I also enjoyed flying around freely with that vast 3D enviroment. Even in PC you didn't have that kind of stuff back in 1996, I had a PC and the most impressive 3D game I had at the time was probably Magic Carpet. Pilotwings 64 (and Mario 64) were mind blowing for the time they came out.

I also didn't bother with the gold medals as a kid but I did now as an adult and I can say it's a pretty fun sim/arcade hybrid game. Got gold medals except one of the cannon missions.

Anyway, my favorite N64 game is Sin and Punishment, closely followed by Mystical Ninja starring Goemon.

>Got gold medals except one of the cannon missions

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din. Those screams still haunt me.

>Mario 64 was mind blowing for the time it came out

While the sprawling environments were grand, it was how they combined with the controls that made Mario 64 special, I reckon. Everything felt very precise, and I could never fathom how so many people would simply accept D-pad controls for the DS version.

>closely followed by Mystical Ninja starring Goemon

Seconded. It didn't do many things as well as Mario and Banjo, but goddamn if it wasn't one of the most enjoyable titles on the system.

I can't decide between dk64 and smash bros. They were both my favorite, it just depended on weather my friends were over or not.

Rogue Squadron. Didn't play much N64 (was always on the Genesis at the time) so I'm sure there are better games.

Didn't you get shitted off with the back-tracking and the collecting? I liked the game for a while, but those two features turned me off 100%ing it.

I never enjoyed Star Wars, but I put in a little time with that one, and it seemed solid. Not sure how it compared to the PC dogfighting games set in the same universe, though.

I remember it being pretty arcadey, but with solid, varied mission objectives. Space Dynasty Warriors, but not quite as braindead.
