All 3-5 Metroid Prime games take place in the gap between Zero Mission and Metroid 2. Specifically in this order: Prime, Prime Hunters, Prime 2: Echoes, Prime 3: Corruption, and Prime: Federation Force.

Don't see why either game would need a remake outside of milking. Fusion may be a black sheep to the Metroid franchise due to being more plot-oriented, constant adam interruptions, door-locking and linearity but the game itself still holds up well and looks good. The only thing a remake would do is change it's core design which isn't worth it.

Super Metroid needs no explanation. Similar to other classic games (someone mentioned Melee earlier), there's too many small little intricacies that people have appreciated in the game over the years that even one small change would be seen as a disservice. Super metroid is still considered by many to be one of the best classic games of all time, hell even best game of all time, there's not much you can remake without pissing someone off. Personally the only thing I would want changed in Super metroid is the controls, but that isn't worth an entire remake over.

the thing that irks me most about Super is how all the sound effects and music sound muffled, like they're being played through a pillow. Now you can play all the good 2D Metroids portably if you have a hacked switch. Also playing through Fusion and even if it's linearity is quite restrictive and suffocating, it's still enjoyable compared to Samus Returns, I hate that game, it plays and feels so different to the other 2D Metroids, I don't even hate the 3D models, it just doesn't play like Metroid. This breakdown of SR is from the bunker.

Finished Fusion while I still think it's a good 2D Metroid, it does have some questionable design choices though, the difficulty spike after the Scientist is really fucking frustrating, everything from Arachnus to Scientist was a fair fight with easily noticable patterns to learn, everything from Yakuza to SA-X has some really bullshit aspects to it's design, for example Yakuza can grab you when you're right next to it and shift you in to it's claws when it shouldn't be able to and it's grab does too much damage, Nettori's platforms are slipperly so you can easily fall into the plants, Nightmare's first phase has some shots patterned in a way so you can't dodge and in it's second phase tracks you so and because it's so big you can't dodge or jump over him, Neo-Ridley's grab has the same problem as Yakuza although he is significantly easier than the previous bosses so I was able to cheese it with missle spam and SA-X's first phase is filled with bullshit like it's tracking you so you keep bumping it to when trying to get away, I figured out a way to cheese it though. Something carried over from Fusion is the high amount of damage normal enemies do to you and high amount of danage needed to kill enemies, it's not as bad in Fusion since enemies don't charge at you but it did make exploring less enjoyable than Zero Mission and Super. Otherwise it's a great game, just wish there was a balance mod that fixes the bullshit design, the linearity is soffocating but at it's core it's a Metroid game not some gun-ho action platformer that MercurySteam made which fundementally ignores a core principle of the series and that's not standing and melee countering everything until you get the Wave Beam because everything fucking charges at you but exploring intricate dungeons.

I get the feeling that like the superior FE game on the system (Shadows of Valencia) it was overlooked by many because of the Switch hype and release at the time, and they have not have been as commercially successful as hoped.

Zero Mission had a more comicbook style. Imagine the outrage if Super Metroid, a game known for a much more subdued and darker tone, got revamped into a more bright, colorful comicbook ZM style or like Samus Returns. There would be rioting. Zero Mission and Samus Returns could get away with their graphical overhauls due to how primitive the original games were but Super Metroid still holds up, it won't go over that smoothly.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with Fusion's core gameplay loop. It has some of the best bosses in the series even. But people let Adam and linearity get in the way of their enjoyment. And all of those whiny faggots are why Metroid Dread was cancelled in favor of Other M. We will never get Metroid 5 and it's all their fault.

There's nothing wrong with playing classic Metroid or Metroid 2. The gameplay is still fun and responsive if a bit limited. The only caveat I'd put to that is that you need to play Metroid 2 in it's color mode or else it's way too easy to get lost in some of the copy/pasted hallways (which are different colors in the color version so them being copy/pasted there is no big deal). I can even point out reasons why you might want to play the originals over the remakes.

Zero Mission is good but it gets caught up in it's own kayfabe. Introducing stupid shit like upgrades that can only be obtained via frame perfect execution. The zero suit segment is just pure frustration on higher difficulties. Encrypted Chozo powerups make a lot of the exploration locked down to end game. There was a lot of experimentation in Zero Mission that I'd say went wrong.

AM2R suffers other issues. Namely that it relies too much on it's own physics. It's possible to stunlock the early Metroid breeds by accident and reduce their difficulty to a bad joke. First Metroid encounter I had I managed to accidentally stunlock it and kill it without taking any damage. Then there's other problems such as pic related who's recycled from Fusion. If you make the mistake of fighting him too soon. You're locked in the room with him and are forced to die because you don't have the upgrade you need to beat him. That's terrible design for a Metroid game. Why would you ever put the player in a situation where they were forced to die because they were exploring?

I've 100% Zero Mission and I don't remember anything like that. Some of the speed booster runs were a bit tight, but I wouldn't call them frame perfect, and it was nice actually having to actually be somewhat skillful with its use.

I'd love to see a Super Metroid remaster, not a remake. Just patch a few things, include widescreen support (which already works with emulation hacks), and some QOL improvements (like hotkeys for sub-weapons instead of cycling through them). Maybe make Samus a tiny bit more quick and responsive, like she was in Fusion and Zero Mission, but all the while keep the original game, warts and all, fully playable and emulated perfectly within the remaster itself, the way the original Metroid was fully playable within ZM.
