most of these infection booms are from nosocomial infections of healthcare workers.

nobody but the poorest, most under-educated people typically work as 'cleaners' in hospitals and healthcare facilities.

so people with little to no understanding of pathogens and are undereducated by the facility/institution so that they dont know the risks they are taking doing the work they do.

Reminder that this thing pretty much exclusively kills old and frail people or those whose immune systems are compromised and even then it's not a guarantee. Most people quarantined for the infection have already recovered yet the media keeps trying to turn this into the next Spanish Flu.

The first wave of the spanish flu only killed the elderly and infirm too, there's still a risk that it mutates into a more lethal strain like the spanish flu did.

But it's unlikely to get as bad as the Spanish flu given the perverse infection environment of that time, packing many infected into cramped field hospitals.

But other countries aren't as likely to arrest the viral spread as China since they're either

a) Third world and incapable of that kind of high-level coordination required for a large quarantine

considering that we still to this day hear about nosocomial HIV infections in hospitals. and not even 30 years ago we had multiple HIV outbreaks in hospitals due to improper protocols.

also, reminder that more people died from the flu during the 2018-2019 flu seasons than from covid-19. even if the death toll rises a couple thousand, it is still within normal limits for death toll from a cold/flu virus.

But it's novelty is why it has so much higher of an infection and fatality rate, there's no population with an already developed immunity (save parts of China now, obviously). It's guaranteed to have already spread throughout most of the world, and just assuming it holds at 1% (it almost certainly won't, China's was 2-3% and most of the world [by population] probably can't meet their standard of care), then it will be much more deadly than the flu.

We're almost certainly looking at hundreds of thousands dead throughout the world (optimistically), and highly possible it will be millions. Not apocalyptic, but not just a regular flu season.

it does not have a high infection rate OR death rate. the swine flu pandemic of a decade or so ago was WAY worse and the mortality rate is lower than most other outbreaks in recent times.

i doubt hundreds of thousands will die, considering its been about two months and only a fraction of that died. most patients are recovering and you dont hear about it in the news.

Around 4 infections for every carrier without countermeasures is pretty high. It's unlikely the Chinese measures can keep Ro<1, and that wouldn't stop re-infection from another country.

And an aggregate mortality rate of 2% is again, pretty high. It primarily kills the elderly or already sick, but so what? There are a lot of elderly and sick people in the world. It's going to be a big deal because even at that mortality rate it's going to infect a large plurality of the world, which means a big body count. Assuming that this pattern of infection holds (very likely), there's going to be a lot of deaths in places with high population density, poor sanitation and medical services, like the sub-continent and Africa.

Other recent outbreaks aren't comparable, they were much less virulent. In fact, higher mortality and lower incubation actually retarded the spread of some of them because it killed it's carriers before they could effectively spread the illness to others.

Again, it's not the black plague, but the globo system isn't built to withstand shocks like this, the second order effects of this could also be very bad (which is just another great argument against globalism).

2% mortality rate isnt that high tbqh. considering that there arent THAT many infections, so far.

and other outbreaks were MUCH more virulent and the mortality rate being around the same as covid-19 and not as bad as a few others. obviously ebola doesnt count as it had something close to a 50% mortality rate.

and i agree the global health care systems arent great enough to deal with these kinds of outbreaks. even in first world countries.

And even if the civilized world can contain their own infections, think of how much of our tech/medical supplies/cheap crap is sourced between China/India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. the quarantine doesnt mean they are infected. its in place to hinder the spread of the virus since a confirmed case was there.

its the same in hospitals right now in NA. most hospital workers dont need to go into work if they have cold/flu symptoms because they dont want to have to quarantine people for cold/flu causing more mass hysteria about the virus. also there is too much background noise rn with all the regular cold and flu patients out there.

spanish flu was never confirmed to be from a pig. and SARS was definitely not from pigs. it was from bats and another mammalian creatures like a ferret/mongoose.

MERS was probably originally from an animal but by the time we detected it during the outbreak it was probably mutated to be a human to human based virus.

most zoonotic flus that mutate or transmit to humans causing novel infections is common among most animal types. not just one or two like people talk about. especially since the swine flu outbreaks.

and i could understand bats being a vector for zoonotic jumps to humans because they are a mammal and also a rodent. rodents carry tons of diseases due to bites from blood sucking insects etc. so it then can make the jump to humans easily as the rodent and mammalian dna help it mutate to a mammalian disease/infection.

pigs get targeted constantly because of religious groups. considering pigs are the most hated of all meats in a bunch of religions.

side note; pangolins were suspected because they do carry diseases and are typically asymptomatic. but a pangolins distant cousin is the armadillo. which is known to spread herpes as they are carriers for it. so try not to handle too many wild animals if you can help it.

there were many stories surrounding specific CDC facilities around the USA and namely the plum island location. which is supposedly responsible for the montauk monster, as they obviously had animals at the facility for growing zoonotic viruses etc for study.

but there was apparently a scientist that was acquired, lol, through operation paperclip or whatever it was called were the USA took a bunch of scientists and such from germany and others.

this scientist was working, allegedly, on biological warfare and was using mosquitoes to try and transfer diseases like malaria/typhoid to the enemy troops.

obviously this was a bad idea since it was harder to make sure your own people didnt get bitten, even with 80% DEET bug repellant back in the day.

the conspiracy theorists talk about how this scientist worked at plum island and decided on using ticks instead…

idk if you know where i'm going with this, again not my theory, but if you look north of plum island, which is northish of montauk. theres a little town called, LYME. which is were lyme disease was first discovered, which is acquired through the bite of certain tick species and is now all over the world with multiple different strains of lyme causing bacteria but also co-infections that don't make any sense in the grand scheme of these bacteria. which are spirochetes. bacteria that are in the shape of a corkscrew and will burrow into all parts of the body. just like syphilis which gets into the brain and causes massive damage.

the main alternative is to shoot or bash their brains in. which causes blood and other bodily fluids to come at you, and bodily fluids are the number one vector for transmission of disease/infections.

and after they are shot or bashed, they need to be burned as its one of the only ways normal people can make sure the infections etc wont survive. but not always.
