I personally trought she always was a mental illness gimmick character, in the cartoon she wasn't really sane when she had screen time longer than 5 seconds, especially the "I AM TRIXIE" thing in the Internet e-mail romance episode, which is probably the most obvious/popular one that reflect that (I didn't remember much of the show, if i'm wrong, please tell me).
That doesn't mean she has to be likeable in this comic anyway, i hated her guts before and i still hate her now, this extremely serious and depressing backstory gives her a more clear reason and motive to harrass and gather informations about Timmantha and neutralize/counter this threat.
That's my cents on the matter anyway.

Your argument doesn't make any sense to me. Yes, it would be cheap to tell the audience that a character isn't an asshole because he saved a kitten when all his previous actions point towards the opposite. However, that’s not what's happening here at all. This comic is based on established characters, one of which has always had this mental illness. It's only logical to focus on what makes the individual characters interesting and then expand upon it. If Veronica was never shown to have a mental illness, it wouldn't be terrible writing either since something along those lines was clearly foreshadowed on p. 20. Does this justify her previous actions? No. But it gives more insight into Veronica and the way the flashback was executed was great. The use of contrasts (Veronica's yellow hair and the purple background for example) gave the panels this surreal feeling. So, she didn't just 'become' a mental illness character out of nowhere. Therefore, I find the development very natural and well done.

I would like to disclose I had nothing to do with the golden shower segment.
I came into the picture after TDF left due to the backlash from said pages. In the meantime I came in right when the story was becoming a psychological thriller of sort. I believed the people before me wanted Timmy to actually be in a ward, suffering some mental condition. The movie, Sucker Punch, was mentioned as inspiration for the plot and I remember there was a lot of fighting over how the story was going.
So I ignored the psychological thriller idea, quietly went off to the side, wrote a rough draft (Day 4) that stayed as true to MD's original story, yet a continuity to the pissy pages (because I didn't want to step on anyone's toes), submitted that and suddenly I become lead writer.
Shit happens...
BTW, I have the remastered pages. This was when we all thought MD was dead or became a Mormon.

As part of a VN project, I was required to write a character pitch in Ren'Py. There were many things the project manager did that I disagreed with, but this was one he got absolutely right. Anyone trying to write for a game should have at least a basic grasp of its mechanics.
It's not that hard. It's harder to do really nice, polished things, but I'm sure you could find people willing to help spit-polish a diamond in the rough, if all they have to do is pretty up your work.

First off, 3 pages is awesome to see. This scene really solidified the friend group well, I like them all now, especially Tootie who had to get over her own problems with Trixie for the plan. Helga continues to be based. Page 2 Panel 2 is the cutest Lor you've drawn. I really like how flexible you've made all their faces, especially Veronica in this sequence. I like the unconventional pairings of the girls and hope to see some interaction between them all (especially Helga/Veronica). Of course the biggest deal is the incoming Trixie/Timmantha progression that in my eyes is the heart of the comic.

I feel for Timantha. Unlike what usually happens in these types of situations, she can't really tell the truth at all. She has to figure out some lie that both doesn't make her look too bad while also not having Trixie be suspicious.
Then again, it is ENTIRELY her fault. See, this is why she should have shown up as Timantha first before as Timmy. Of course, Hartman never followed through with the consequences of that action, let alone acknowledge the episode existed ever again.
As more and more cartoons have continuity, stuff like this sticks out so bad.
I am glad that this comic exists and thriving and that I have stuck with it over this long stretch of time.
